I want a new labtop/computer, but don't like Vista.

I want a new labtop/computer, but don't like Vista.

So both my sister have labtops with Vista installed and I seriously hate it. I just want a brand new computer with Windows, but every new computer has to have the standard Vista installed.

Is Vista something that'll grow on me? Or should I just stick with what I have now, and that is pretty ole' computer with Windows.

And please don't tell me to get a Mac. That's just out of the question.

Vista definitely very different and there are a lot of kinks to work out, but i've gotten used to it and am even starting to like it  . i just wish that they would work out a lot of comparability issues with games and software (like san andreas PC  ) but i'm sure that will come in time. if you're against vista THAT much, then i suggest downgrading or using Linux.

If a mac is out of the question then you pretty much answered your own question! :P
Unless you can find a new copy of an older version of windows ( and be prepared to pay through the nose ) then you will have to adapt to Vista and besides, older versions of windows are rapidly dropping off of microsofts list of operating systems they simply will no longer support not to mention they are a much greater security risk than newer versions.
I have a laptop with Vista on it and there are a lot of things I like and some that I do not like, same thing with windows or any operating system.

I fell in love with Vista very quickly. Once you get over certain changes, it becomes a very nice OS.

At this point, I could never go back to XP. And I've tried! My dad still uses XP, and whenever I have to use his machine, it's very hard to work with.

I think Dell or one of those companies still sells computers with XP because of complaints about Vista.

Why don't you like it?

For the average user there's not that much difference between XP and Vista.

The real differences are for those who like to fiddle with settings and stuff with certain things being buried nice and deep so you have to work hard to change them.

But otherwise it's not that much different to XP and a lot of the bugs have now been fixed.

You will get use to it, in fact you'll have to anyway. If you go back to XP now you're still going to have to go to Vista eventually.

That's what people said about XP. I know folks who still use 2000 to this day.

Build your own TC. You can get a copy of XP pro for $110

I'll stop using a computer before I "upgrade" to Vista again.

I know people who are still using ME.
And that's only because it came with the computer and it can't support XP and they're not computer literate anyway so they think the constant errors are normal.

Ouch. Folks I know that use 2000, use it because it was so freaking stable, had a minimum of useless features and was a straight forward blank interface. Good for business use.

Vista just seems so useless to me. It adds nothing for me personally besides a useless wallpaper dock with a clock and news posts. Yay. Seven years and they couldn't even update the visuals in WMP. So sad. Instead they moved internal features I liked to tinker with to places where I couldn't find them, and added a useless and extremely invasive security system. Horrible use of 2500 days if you ask me.

As mentioned before, Dell sells laptops with XP (if you opt for it) but some of Dell's prices are craptastic.

If I were you, I'd look for a nice priced Vista laptop (Wal-Mart generally has good prices for the components inside. Dual core processors, Dual channel DDR2 ram, etc.) and before you make the purchase, make sure to get the model number of the laptop, then go to the manufacturer's website and see if XP drivers are still available. If they are, download 'em before they're removed, and then go buy the OEM of XP on NewEgg.

Once you've eradicated Vista from the laptop, install XP, install the downloaded drivers, and you're done. You'll have a fully operable XP laptop with all the bells and whistles.

NOTE:
Dell, HP/Compaq, Acer/Gateway/eMachines still provide XP drivers.

Toshiba does not. In fact, they're one of the worst for customer support.

Good luck.

my new laptop from Dell has Windows XP Pro. I had the option to either put in XP or Vista. I went one that I was comfortable with. As mentioned before, Dell has Windows XP for sale with new or old computers. You might be able to install XP and get rid of the Vista. I have gone from Me to XP, which is an upgrade but I have not gone down. I will have to ask a friend of mine that is knowledgeable with computers.

I just built my own PC and put XP Home on it (got XP it from Newegg.com for $99). Just my two cents...

Finally. How many posts in before somebody talked some sense?

You don't have to buy computers that are pre-made. There's a lot more out there than Mac and PC with whatever's newest.

Go to Tigerdirect.com. Last time I was there they were offering laptops, that you could built from scratch or buy machine's their technicians have built. These guys know computers, and that's an understatement.

Those machines are divided between XP and Vista. Can't attest to how new the technology is, but it looks pretty damn good to me.

Also, if you build your own machine, either from a barebones kit or from scratch, you can put whatever you want on it. Even Windows 3.0

I'd rather spend my money at NewEgg if I had to choose. TigerDirect doesn't have the best reviews for customer service, especially in the rebate department (and they offer a lot of rebate items).

E-pinions.com was chock full of negatives for them. Plus if you Google a bit, TD doesn't sit well with a lot of people.

Though, you do make a good point, buying a custom is a great idea and generally cheaper.

I talked to a good friend of mine that works on computers on a daily basis. He indicated that Vista is like old Windows Me that gave a lot of people headaches. This is due to that Vista uses tons of the computers power-supply and RAM to run.

What's really sad is...ME is still more compatible with programs and devices than Vista and since people are used to it...they consider it to be more stable. (The facts say otherwise, but people see what they want.)

Even with all of it's problems...ME still beats Vista top to bottom in my book. Screw Vista.

OpenGL 3.0, when it's finalised and available to developers it will offer a pixel shader 4 implementation that will work on XP, and probably perform better than Vista using DX10.
