Is joining the Transformers Collectors club worth it?

40 bucks seams rather high. What do you guys think? Is it worth it? Thanks.

If you're in America ... sure.

If you're not, then generally no.

As a member for the past two years, I have to say, no. I feel like I've been ripped off, and I have seen nothing to convince me that it's worth renewing.

The biggest benefit you can get, really, is a discount to Botcon, and that's really only good if you're actually able to go. All the other benefits basically amount to a message boards only club members can access, which I've never found to be worth using, the option to buy overpriced exclusives, a newsletter with news you'll see on Seibertron and other TF sites sooner or later anyway, a comic you can probably buy in stores for far less than the membership fee a few months later, and the yearly repaint of a $7 figure.

All in all, unless you're going to Botcon, you're basically paying for access to things you can get for less, if not for free, elsewhere.

:BOT: Being a comic geek, I think that was the biggest incentive for me when considering joining. But I don't think there was enough pages to merit the club price. And were they even good comics?

In anycase, IDW announced they were reprinting those issues in a collection. :CON:

Mediocre, in my opinion. However, they were one of the main reasons I decided to join. I figured I couldn't find them elsewhere, and I wanted to see the story that was implied to be exclusive to the club. If I'd waited, I could have and paid far less for it.

In anycase, IDW announced they were reprinting those issues in a collection.

Yeah, I know. That's where my comment about the comic probably being available in stores in a few months came from. The past two years worth will be available for $10, so, presumably, future stories will meet the same fate.

The $40 is pretty high actually, I had a lot of debate on joining. Last year was my first year and I don't think I get the $40 worth, but I do want the exclusive figures...

I just wish their exclusive figures wernt so damn $$$!!! I had to skip on Airazor and Astrotrain....the Price was just to way out there. I'll pay the herendous prices at Botcon for those figures but for just regular exclusives...no thank you........shame they did look good too.

EDIT: I will be rejoining this year...

Agreed, they are way too expensive. $87 for a repaint of a $20 toy isn't worth it. Simply repainting the original molds would pretty much get you the same toy. The only thing missing would be the new head.

Digging out this thread to say that, as a Canadian, joinning the Club would be stupid as hell.
MORE THAN 60$ TO JOIN!
For five comics, and one "free" exclusive figure that's just a deluxe repaint?

I joined last year because I went to BotCon. It was worth it, it knocked off the price a bit, and I also like the Sideburn figure. Don't care much for the Battlechargers for 2012, but I might rejoin depending where BotCon will be.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,

I joined the TFCC Club to get Piranaking a few years ago. I paid $119 for piranaking then another $20 in shipping fees to get the thing mailed to my house.

needless to say,I had a extreme bad experience over their. because I got cyber bullied & ganged up on their TFCC Message boards. the mods & admins were also cyber bullying me & ganged up on me..

I also had problems getting the club magazine. because i'm from new york & the club address is on the west coast of america. it took 5+weeks for me to get my club magazine after other members claimed to get their club magazine. members who got their club magazine weeks before others would boast about it all over various TF moderated message boards.

when you pay $40 for TFCC Club membership. the club doesn't mail out your club magazine using priority or parcel mail. they use the cheapest & slowest BULK MAIL option. which takes weeks to receive your club comic from the Post office. you only get 5 or 6 club magazines, delivered every 2 months to your house.

I Didn't think the TFCC Club magazine/comic was worth it. as their is only 10 pages counting the front cover & back cover. half the club magazine felt like they were wasting the first five pages with nothing on purpose just to fill up those pages. with fan stuff like made up tech specs & weird stuff no one cares about. the other half of the magazine had 5 pages of the club comic which felt "to me" like it was being written by a kid in grammar school with a over active imigination with plots that kept getting written & then forgotten about in next issues. the art was okay. sadly the paper used in the club comic was so cheap,it felt like tissue paper.

the club magazine claims to have interviews by hasbro, idw employees in every issue. but their is barely "one" hasbro Q & A interview per year in the magazine. the interview barely got 2 short pages.

I was basically paying $40 a year for a free club toy. the club claimed it's free every year. BUT YOUR REALLY PAYING $40 TO GET THE FREEBIE CLUB TOY. at the very least put the freebie club toy on a deluxe blister card with a bubble attached to it. throwing the freebie club toy in a cheap plastic bag felt CHEAP.

I didn't think the non-attendee Botcon box gift set for club members was fair. basically a non-attendee package,is a botcon gift set of 5 or 6 boxed toys for around $310 plus another $20 in shipping fees. It wasn't a fair price because those who were not able to go to boton's convention had to pay the same exact price for the gift set of 5 boxed toys as those who were going.

basically those going to botcon & paying $310 for a gift set of 5 convention TF toys. the $310 price also paid for their 5 days admission fees into the convention floor. the $310 price also paid for their access to the Q & A panels, free autographs.the freebie convention toy that scalps on ebay for $75 easily. free access to the awards dinner with free food & free alchol. free stuff like posters,pins,etc...

threads were put on the TFCC Club message boards asking why those club members who were not able to go to botcon but wanted the gift set. why we had to pay the same exact price as members who went to botcon. why non-attendees didn't get the freebie convention toy. why non-attendees paid the same as attendees but got nothing extra. the TFCC club use to respond with the typical phrase "IT'S A PENALTY,THOSE NOT GOING & WANT THE BOTCON GIFT SET PAY MORE,to help pay for the convention exspenses."

from my perspective I saw from major favortism. the first year I paid $60 to get my club magazine shipped to me super fast using priority mail. needless to say the "favorites, employesss & staff members who paid $40 got their magazine mailed to them 2 weeks before me who paid $60 for faster shipping service.

the next year when I dropped down to $40,it literally took 5 weeks for me to get my TFCC Club magazine after some on the internet claimed to get their magazine 5 whole weks earlier/before me.

Like some,I thought the Club freebie combiner was pure awful. I thought the club freebie Dion was another awful club toy.

I actually liked the freebie club toy Sideburn. but after getting cyber bullied & ganged up on their paid mesage board forum & getting my magazine 5+weeks delivered late to me. having a club magazine that felt like it made using tissue paper. I DIDN'T THINK SIDEBURN WAS WORTH dealing with TFCC Club another year. so I chose not to re-new my club member ship.

from my perspecitive, their were a lot of favorites members getting catered to like the workers, staff. while more than 70% of the members got taken advantage of & used.

For some strange reason those TFCC club members who not able to go to botcon were allowed to order the gift set of 5 boxed toys. but those not going WERE NOT ALLOWED to order the add-on souvenir bagged convention TF toys.

ANYTIME Pre-orders went up for the paid club non-free toys like astro train,airrazor,punch/counter-punch. the date of the pre-orders page was never announced to the very last minute & on that hour. I had suspicions that the TFCC Workers, staff & elite favorities got the heads up weeks/months before & knew the exact day & time the pre-orders pages were going up for order on-line.

From my unique experience, the TFCC club members not able to go to the botcon convention got treated like inferior members,to the over board extent. while the TFCC Club members who were able to afford to go to the convention got treated like they were royalty.

Their was no perks for TFCC Club members who not able to afford to go to the botcon convention. IMHO,We got taken advantage of & treated as inferior members. paying $40 a year to get treated like this every year,no thanks.

Personally,i got sick to my stomach & far too many headaches getting screwed over by the TFCC club & I wanted the nightmare/missery to end. so I refused to re-new my club membership in 2011.

sorry about your issues with the message board as ive never bothered to use it.also some members pay the extra $$ to have there stuff shipped and as a result they get it earlier.

for me it isnt all that bad yes you get a repaint but there are also other benefits like botcon and the nonatendee packages if i cant make at a discount. as i love the wj/tracks mold i have renewed my mambership this year.

I know I went a little overboard, but you could at least press the SHIFT button once in a while. You'll be much easier to read. This is not a chat board nor just a text message quickly sent with a phone on a busy street corner.

Your posts are staying for years to come! So it's worth it to put some efforts in your writing.Your posts are usually long and wordy and proper capitalisation is essencial for this.

On a side note, english is not even my first language. So I do make many mistakes myself. I'm learning on the fly for years and I still have a long way to go. (Fanfic community, Y U SO MEAN?!) If you see a very bad mistake in the writing of my posts, feel free to point it out.

"english" should be capitalized. :P

I'm also somewhat of a grammar Nazi, but I have toned it down. I came to accept that a lot of people on these board either don't know proper grammar or just don't care. English is also not my first language and I know how hard it is to learn it properly, which is why I have such respect for proper grammar. Yet, just as you, I also make mistakes sometimes.

Kanrabat, you ever go off topic like that again and you will get a warning.

People can spell and use whatever grammar they like, and they don't need people pulling them up over it.

That's all that will be said regarding that matter. Everyone get backs on topic now.
