Masterpiece, Alternators/Binaltech and Alternity come to mind, not to mention reissues. 'Nuff said. Also, there's a plethora of merchandise for the G1 continuity, like busts and statues.

Re: Just trying to prove to my dumbass freind that transformers aren't just for kids
Probably won't happen unless we get a live action movie on the same level as Dark Knight, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Superman '78 film, etc. I'm using Comic Book movies as an example because they were also considered by many to be "kids stuff". Now it's hard to find comics that are acceptable for kids in the general market, without going into specialty shops.
The Transformers live action films are a decent start, but with moments like "I'm directly below the enemy's scrotem", it's far, far, far away from being taken seriously.

We can't hold someone's preconditioning against them.It opens doors for them to do the same to us.
Different people from different backgrounds will be effected by different interpretations of lifestyle and detriment to lifestyle.
In very many countries, children are 'taught'according to some (brainwashed, according to others) that by the age of seven its' vital to be involved in sport. These children will have trouble letting themselves get caught holding a new toy.In certain cases it can be taboo.
By 14, these children are expected to know how to hunt and slaughter but also to know all about conservation and the animal cruelty problem and be active members in that field in accordance to their age. It's a schizophrenic scenario to outsiders but logical to the given community.
One of my cousins travels the world as a hobby. She told me about a trip to a certain nation (doesn't matter where) where she went o a 'Dance Party', not knowing what it is and assuming it was just a party with an international dancing theme.
She told me "Here are all these FKD up kids, leveled out on acid and ecstacy and dancing alone, with the members of the opposite sex dancing alone right next to them! How FKD up is this nation? Is that recreation? Grab the FKN girl next to ya and DANCE with her, blow her mind like that so she can want to blow yours later! What sort of families and children are they going to create?"
My point being that your friend would have heard particular arguments over the course of his life so far to solidify his beliefs, and in context with his background, those beliefs, I suspect, are wise. Don't bother showing him the toy aspect. Show him the adult aspect. He'll be more free to allow himself to look at it.The ingenious way some bits transform, the color or patterning or even model type on some, and my personal fave-the G1 tech specs.
If he doesn't wanna know, live with it. He's not a criminal. I suggest finding more friends, but not throwing him away because he doesn't work.Wait 'till you start picking up girls or driving your first cars togeher and you'll see how many arguments you have about who has the manly and childish approach. It's just life.
Before I moved to Greece I lived in Oz and collected Alternators.I already had a massive Beast Wars collection. My old Dad was like "what the hell you want this junk for? YOu gonna build a car to drive you to Greece?
I told him, "These are gonna be family heirlooms once I die-the animals for my girls and the cars for my boys to sell if they run into living problems. Leave them here until I send for them, then post them to me".
My old Dads' like "They're takin' up space in my good home is what they are-sell 'em now, stupid, they're no good to ya!"
I move to Greece, have a million adventures and am now married. I tell my wife "ask my Dad over the phone if He's still got my Alternators 'cuz if he threw them away, I'll get nasty and regret it later".
She asks.
He tells her: "I look at those, sometimes. Those are mighty fine cars. Amazing detail. Heavy as hell, and heavy means quality. He must have spent so much money on those.I never really noticed the little terrorist sneak 'em into the house so fast. When I was a kid we used pebbles as cars and made vrrr noises, and had no complaints. They're here, but tell him I gave 'em away to all the kids in the neighborhood".
So ya never know.
One last:
When Lucas did his prequels I bought ALL the Jedi toys, just for me to have like I wished to have when I was a kid.
Down the road was a minimarket that I'd go to buy my cigarettes. The lady there was an immigrant from a country with hard times. She had a 6 year old son-always smiling little kid.
I'd speak with her for hours cuz she was new to the area and the family had no friends. The boy would play for 5 minutes with a ball and then get yelled at to go read.
Day after day after day.
I asked the mum if she was sure about pushing the 6 year old so hard. She told me it was his duty to study, hers to provide for it along with his clean home, clothing and real food. She told me he could get a good job and then do whatever he liked.
I told her the west is a different place, that "for example, the best description of God is actually from a popular movie and not a religion so the little guy needs some TV at least" (Ben Kenobi describing the Force to Luke in A New Hope).
The kid overhears and is like "Oh, I love StarWars!!"
I'm like "Who's your fave Jedi?"
He says "Yoda!"
I go home, load all my Jedi toys into a plasic bag and go back to the shop and give them to the kid, who was inside, reading and had to be called out by his Ma...he takes the bag and says "Thank you" (which a lot of other kids don't know how to say, mind you).
I say "There's a Yoda in there too"
and he replies....
...wait for it....
..."Which one is Yoda?"
I'm like "don't you know how to spot Yoda in a crowd??"
He says "Nah-but all my school friends talk about him"
So you never know.
Show your mate the adult aspects and let him decide in his own time according to his own programming.

It's a safe bet he already tried the "they also make these toys for adults" argument.

NO! If you're trying to improve someone's impression of Transformers, showing them borderline lolicon is the opposite of what you want to do. It won't make it look more mature, it just makes it look gross.

My sentiment exactly....Stupid people abound, and they actively seek out things to degrade people over.....It makes them feel better about their own miserable little insignificant lives.
You do what YOU want to do and collect what YOU want to collect and to hell in a handcart what those "friends" think and/or say about it!

Don't listen to people who try to turn you against your friends.Make your own choices.
Here are two quotes, from memory, from other Cybertronians from an older thread about "Am I too old to collect toys?" I think it was in the TF general discussion forum. There are many more quotes on it.
Their words were to the effect of:
"-After all, a Transformer is just a complicated puzzle" (I forget who).
"-If you like it, but think you're too old for it, it's an ornament"
-Amelie (I think).

I think the point of this thread was to help him make that choice. If he already knew what to do, he wouldn't be asking for advice.
That said, it depends on HOW he's saying this to you. If it's just friendly joking, just laugh along.
It's it's not friendly, or not joking, just tell him you don't care what he thinks, you like Transformers and his ignorant view of it won't change anything. If he persists, then forget him. Real friends don't belittle each other for differing opinions.

True. There are unbelievable stories out there about how far friends go for one another.
I thought I should mention that rampaging hormones in a teenagers' system could cause one or both parties to become pushy, interpretable as something more distasteful, such as abusive.
(The assumption that you guys are teenagers is exactly that-an assumption).

*sighs*
You're wasting your time, man. Sorry, but it's true.
People will see only what they want to see. It takes something monumental to get them to open their eyes and get past preconceived notions. To go to those lengths over TransFormers? Not worth it.
Your patience, sanity, and time are far more precious than trying to convince him.
Remain his friend (don't listen to silliness such as "Get a new friend") and just avoid this topic. If he brings it up, tell him "Look, you know where I stand, I know where you stand, let's just agree to disagree and move on. Okay? How about them (insert sports team here)" If he continues to prod you, ask him why he would do that to you if he's truly your friend. Ask him why he can't let you live your life as is.
I doubt you try and change his life or his view, so he should extend the same courtesy.
Maybe he's simply the one friend you can't share this hobby with. That's okay, obviously you have more in common than this, otherwise you wouldn't be friends. Focus on those things, instead, when dealing with him.
As for the board, have him read some of nastier posts on here, or send him to TFW. If that doesn't prove to him that adults are fans of these things, nothing will.
Past a certain point, I'd just give up trying to sway him. Live how you want to live, screw the world.
You don't owe him any explanation. You don't owe him anything.
NOTE: Realize that I am not a perfect Christian, nor do I profess to be. I apologize if anyone's ever offended by me, I'm not perfect. Don't hold my posts and opinions against other Christians.

How about finding some BotCon footage on Youtube and just show him that? Like a panel interview, or some fans documenting their experiences amidst the convention.

Hmm... I think your friend uses the toy aspect to judge the rest of the Franchise. If that's the case, I'd say hit him with the fiction instead. While bust and encore re-issues may cater to the adult market, they are, for the most part,a toy like representation of a character. Transformers, since it's inception, have not just been about providing flash, but substance as well. In toys, this is shown by the toy itself being two products in one. However, gobots were around at the same time, and we all know how that went. The toys were given a huge push via the cartoon. The robots were the flash/hook/gimmick in the show, but the actual characters and story telling were the substance/meat.
I'd show him the War for Cybertron game, since video games are more adult source of entertainment by comparison, and like most good video games it's an interactive story. I'd also recommend comics, since for the most part, comic's only selling points are good stories with good visuals. I'd recommend Target 2006, but it's not exactly stand alone. Last Stand of the Wreckers is an awesomely dark and gritty story that makes four obscure characters shine brightly before the lights went on them, and the resolution and reasons for the story itself are far from ideal. I'd also say the last ten or so issues of the Marvel run, and your pick of the modern comics. All Hail Megatron might actually work on him, if a little set up is provided in the case of Sunstreaker and Hunter. To me, the fandom's chiefs complaints about it, are it's continuity issues.
Finally, I'd say Beast Wars "Code of Hero" is one of the best moments in the entire franchise. I'd say show him some animated, but it seems he is already strongly biased against the kiddy aspect, which is ironic considering the story telling in that show surpasses the new movies on any given level, but visual.

obviously you have more in common than this, otherwise you wouldn't be friends.
This is the Crux of it all, really. If the nexus of your relationship is a battle over an interpretation of Transformers only, it needs rewriting.

I'm inclined to suspect he won't truly reveal to you how he honestly feels about them, or why.
Something I used to do is buy Transformers for my friends.I'm talking about buying him ONE, not a whole set. Find one that reflects something you know he's drawn to. Be careful not to put demands on his response, if he doesn't appreciate it, you already knew that, and remember it might be a veneer. It'll be there for him to approach if and whenever he chooses to.If you feel he'll resent it, make it part of a batch of little gifts.I'm talking on a birthday or Xmas, not on meterosexual awareness week-could get you into more trouble!!
Don't gloat when you find him shopping for Transformers for his own kids years from today-it's a given.
"Everyone has a hobby.Even people who say they don't still have one under another name.If we're sick, injured, we still go to it and get down to see how it is.If it needs something, we bring it,make sure the attention is perfect. It exercises our care and protection and gives us back philosophies. It's a living thing to us,and is the most perfect way to teach a young person how to be towards a living thing. It's something that should never be taken away."

I have friends that make snide comments about the my collection all the time. Those are the same friends that are huddled around the shelf as soon as they come into my house to see what new stuff I got.
Yes they are toys. Yes kids play with toys, but so do grown-ups. I enjoy my collection for what it is and what it means to me.
To answer your question, this is not a little kid's website. Look around at the forums and read the discussions. Look at the profiles of the members.
