Maybe this movie won't be a success after all?
Apex Convoy wrote:So...your school is full of stuck-up douche-nozzles.
Exactly. To be on-topic, it's full of people like Trent and Mikaela.
Apex Convoy wrote:Nerdiness is in.
That's very contradictory. "Nerdiness" has always been defined as something that is cool to only a small amount of people. If it was "in," then it would be "cool" therefore no longer being "nerdy."

Unless you can give us some more raw data on your schools demographics, your argument is moot. Do you live in a rural area? Is 80% of the population non-English speaking Inuit? Are the vast majority of your classmates already registered on seibertron and are rabid G1 fanboys?
In the abstract, you are taking a non-scientific poll from a non-biased test group and applying your result to the entire world and accepting that the interest in your area correlates directly to the interest worldwide.
Web-traffic indicates TF is trending better than Pirates and F4 by good margins, and the industry is avoiding the weekend like the plague, when every studio in Hollywood would love to have a piece of the July 4th action. Will it crack 700 million domestic? I don't think so. $300 or more? Probably.

Yes

I'm the only one surfing the internets, as far as I know.
EDIT:
Oh yeah, I was talking to one of the jocks, and he was the only one who knew anything about the movie. He said he saw one of the TV spots, and simply said, "Haha, yeah, that one robots shits out that scorpion dude."

Plenty of people I know are absolutely interested in going to see this film.
For example:
Myself (27 and no problems walking into the store to buy figures. Sorry, you're wrong about that one.)
My cousins (one's 35 and can't wait to see it. The other's 19 and she always thought they were stupid. Now she's chomping at the bit to see it and it's driving her nuts to have to wait. She's a prep too, so that's really saying something.)
Other people in stores (including store employees at several different places), etc.
It's getting positive reviews, and people who never gave a damn, now, in fact give a damn.
It's nice to think the world agrees with you, but it doesn't. Oh sure, some people do, but not even close to the number you'd like to think.
Salazaar's the same guy who thought the writers lied to us and made numerous bitter posts about it (within the same thread).
So forgive me if I don't take a lot of stock in his personal opinions, especially concerning this.
Wow....

Funny thing is, at least all colleged aged teens and older are nerds. We were raised to be "nerds." Comic book for example, at least I don't think so, weren't always this popular for a long time. Now look at it- comic book movies everywhere and every single one is doing GREAT.
The 90s was a time of many comic book games and rushing home every day after school to watch Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, or the X-Men, etc. That started it and now it's everywhere.
Hell, some of my friends are REALLY popular- and I'm talking about those who were high school athlete jocks popular and they're nerds as well. At least the ones that I know.
That's the age we, kids of the 90s, grew up in. So that side of us is important and was never forgotten.
Hell, go to an animated film even opening night- chances are you'll see 25-45% families and the rest teenagers, young adults and adults... ALONE. I don't think you would have hade that earlier as well, may be mistaken though.
Point is, that side of us- kids of the 90s- was everywhere and when X-Men hit theaters that just hit a full blast forward and it never stopped.
So yeah, it's not depending on what the word "nerd" means as much as what it stands for- love for comic books, super heroes, and everything cool that used to be considered "nerdy" as now in.
Hell, check out Hot Topic from time to time or some other stores that are popular... chances are you'll find shirts for superhero properties as well as Transformer shirts. That should tell you something right there.
And as I said, I never really knew about Transformers other than it was a toy line and had a cartoon way way back in the day. I was a superhero type of guy, like many around my age are. But, once I read TF and saw the clips- instant convert. And many I know are anxious to see the film as well. Because now, especially thanks to the press coverage- people are learning, like I did that there is alot more to Transformers than meets the eye.

I wasn't talking about THOSE teenagers. I meant kids from the 6-11th grade.

K, you're talking about a sampling of 40-45% rural whites. I don't know if regional religion plays any significant role in the lives of your classmates or not; I also don't know the local culture, access to media, if they 'cruise the square' on Friday nights.
But we can measure the US population at 300 million. TF's don't do terribly well in the South, as the concept is more popular in the 'Steel Belt' and the Coasts, where population is considerably denser. Will you ever have a Botcon in Birmingham or Atlanta? Probably not.
TF's is marketed as the only major release, action, family or otherwise on a weekend that traditionally sees the entire family unit out on the town trying to kill time before the fireworks goes off. If 5% of the population decides to take the TF ride that weekend, at an avg ticket price of $9, that's $135 million, and that's just in the US.
All TF's has to do is have a 5% market penetration to break even, domestically, in the first week. If you and two other kids at your school want to go see it, that's all you need.
EDIT: Well, math owns me at nearly midnight. I should have said you and 29 others.

Oh, then yeah- don't really know much about that area (11th grade and under).
I do know that it will be huge with people around my age and older though.
I mean, everyone in my college, it seemed like, was more than excited to see TMNT even. Lol. Primarily due to the love for the 80s and the 90s cartoon that flowed into my generation.
So, as I said- around colleged aged and up. No problem. Where there in PACKS.
Love the 80s, 'nerds' at heart, and the universal love for fast cars, hot chicks and explosions.
Younger than that, I don't really know...

I dunno where you get your stories, but that is BS. I have been talking about it at work all the time and my co-workers have too. We are in our late 20's. Heck, my boss who is about 35 can't wait to go see it.
Amazing you take a story by some opinionated idiot and use it as fact. My friends who are girls that aren't even huge into Transformers are 27+ and are ecstatic about this film!
And with my car project I have underway in early development I am also saying it loud and proud with no shame:
(teaser)

This is an older pic. I have done more since then.
Sorry. I have a hard time believing grownups are ashamed to go see this with how many adults I already know who really want to see this badly. I'm more a Star Wars freak than a TFormer guy, but for my car I thought it was fitting. More pictures will come soon. I even have Transformers vanity plates

Salazaar, you **** stirrer! Nice work, makes for fun reading.
Anyone who cares enough to go around asking 250 high schoolers if they are going to see a movie is both crazy and alright with me.
Oh, and 100% wrong.

I know this may not help in the discussion at hand, but my friend who mostly hates almost everything I like tv show wise.
He especially hates Transformers, I don't know why, but he does.
He has seen the tv spots and is actually excited about the movie.
Oh, for the record he's 19, still a teenager

The other day, I was chatting with a friend of mine who's still in high school about going to see it on the 3rd with the other three guys that help me with my site to hand out buttons, and she asked if she could come along.
In the three or four days since, I've had at least 20 people, ranging from 9 to 35 in age, to come along, also.
I live in a rural area with some of it (including my house) unable to get cable, but I still see the TV ads on a regular basis. I don't know if the area salazaar lives in is discriminatory against robot aliens or what, but the ads are definently out there in full force.
All I know is that the rate of people asking to come along, I might see the movie with all of my friends filling the seats in the theater, and I was the only one who knew anything about Transformers other than it being a toy line.
Side note: Freshmen year, I was already a "popular" kid in school, but I STILL sported the Transformer shirts. Hell, I even brought my G1 Optimus once to prove a point and ended up just carrying it around so it wouldn't get crushed by books with no shame.

Time for my story ...
Last week and this week i've been on holidays. For those who have missed it, I was lucky enough to catch an advance screening of the movie last week.
This was also known by my work mates. The movie also made the news the next day along with a couple of trailers, these were also viewed by my work mates.
One in particular (who's 43) was majorly impressed with the movie and said "it looks really good!"
Her 18 year old son (who grew up with TMNT) agreed with her and wants to see it as soon as it opens.
Both of them are non-TF fans. And the son really wouldn't give a crap what people thought of him going to see "a movie based on a toy line" because he didn't see trailers for a "movie based on a toy line", he saw a movie with giant f'ning robots and lots of action. The sort of thing he enjoys.

Tell me who's not gonna pay to see Megan Fox....
Considering the mass amount of sex related jokes and teens who just can't stop to say one or two, yeah I think they'd pay to see Megan Fox.....
My god for crying out loud this is like saying Harry Potter won't sell because teens think it's stupid.....
Now this makes me so, so dmn glad I'm not a part of this generation.

"Dude, why would we watch a movie a bunch of thirty year olds with no life are going to watch?"
Hasbro is (in theory) screwed.
What you say is quite true, Still, This movie needs to help get Transformers get back on there feet and I think Teenagers need to wake up and smell the coffee and realise that this movie will kick ass

Some of his points are based in reality, but hardly is any of it actually true.
He pulls these "facts" and "figures" out of his ass at a moments notice, and then puts them up here and expects us to eat it like candy. Problem is, (for him, that is) we all have differing opinions and 9 times out of 10 we won't agree with him, so all he does is post more nonsensical stuff either to outrage, get someone to agree, or figures "f*ck it, I'll just wing it". It's irritating, and bottom line is, he's basically putting words in other people's mouths. It's uncalled for, and it's rude.
Will this movie be a boxoffice bonanza? Indeed possible.
Will this movie be a boxoffice failure? Indeed possible.
Will this movie win an Oscar and change the world? No.
Will this movie entertain, period? YES. (And therein lies it's strength.)
All these years, we've deluded ourselves into thinking "Yeah! An Oscar winning TF movie? Hells yeah! It could happen!" when we're all terribly wrong. We're all to blame, really. Salazaar listened to us go on and on about how cool it would be if this happened, or that happened. Yet none of us ever really realized "Wow. That would actually be a dumb idea." All you have to do is look at a trailer or a commercial, compare *OUR* ideas for a TF movie, and see we were very very wrong.
But, I can say this: an enjoyable action/adventure, sci-fi, rock 'em sock 'em funfest? You betcha. (Although it could win an Oscar for special effects, but beyond that...no.)

Who cares about teens anyway 25% are emo's, you should never judge a book by it's cover, this is no kiddie show as you may call it, "M" is not "Kiddie"
I for one stand up for the movie and if it were CGI animated I could understand the situation here but this is Live Action we are talking about, most like grade 6-10's are seeing this from what I've heard.

Ok...when was it taboo for the cool crowd to watch movies?
I think you're under the assumption that today's majority are the cool kids.
As I understand it the teen hierarchy is like this:
5%- cool kids obsessed with vanity and social status.
65% - gamers, bloggers, net hikers, progessive culture, and geeks.
30% - Mis.

All the teens I know are really looking forward to this movie.
They would have been embarassed to see this movie if it had been turned into an all CGI kids film like the new TMNT was, but Michael Bay turned it into a PG-13 action movie, no teen I know would be embarassed to see that!

Honestly, your post is so wrong on so many points that I am wondering if you were serious in posting it?
It's a symphony of wrong assumptions and incorrect conclusions. It's actually quite impressive just how wrong it is.
