Sweeeet, I love it!
You have no idea how happy I am that they scraped his old "standard mode" that looked like a lawn gnome with third-degree burns. For those of you who think the new head doesn't look different enough, lest we forget THIS:

At least now his standard head looks menacing, and his battle mode even more so. I wish the toys had his battle head, but after looking at the pics of the prototypes, it's looks like the kept the new standard one, probably because the toys were already in production when they made the change, which would explain why the new standard head looks almost exaclty like the old battle head... does that make sense?
Could it be? Our bitching actually caused the bigwigs to make a pretty drastic last-minute change, for the better?

Actually, I think the prototypes we've seen may have had the second head we saw

Something else that's just occurred to me is we've only seen the various incarnations of his face from straight ahead or at a slight tilt. We have no idea how long it might be from front-to-back and if the toy is any indication, it might be elongate.

I don't get it. Why can't they make a Megatron head that we recognize as Megatron? How would a classic Megatron style helmet take away from the character or movie? Why are the designers dancing around with new designs instead of giving the fans what they want.
Another problem that I have is the functionality of the helmet. In Meg's normal mode, he has thick armor on the side of his head and none on the top. Why none on the top?
And in battlemode, he has thin jointed armor along his temples and crown. And in some places there are even gaps. Why would he have thin armor or gaps in these places for battlemode? It doesn't make sense from a fighting perspective. A full armored head is more secure.
--- The producers and directors keep telling us that the Movie Transformers are what robot aliens would look like. But I disagree. From an evolutionary and functionality perspective Megatron's head doesn't make sense.

His battle mode is like a mix between Bludegon with the skull like face, Galvatron with the crown and someone else I can't put my finger on.
EDIT: Those lines across his eyes....I wonder if they might act as eyelids to help emote? I've noticed many of the designs have this.

I wanted to be able to better compare the 'helmet' aspects without the clutter of the faces so I did a quick photoshop editing them out. The original 'Battle Mode' is on top left with the 'Jazz Hands' render on the right. The bottom two are the new versions.

I still feel this way about the new 'Standard Mode' head

Meh. It's not horrible, yet not great either. It don't bother me, but then again the whole movie Megs design stopped bothering me a while ago. I do see some Galvatron in the battle-mode pic.

"Consider the knowledge dropped."
From ToplessRobot.com:• "Watching Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is marginally better than sh***ing your pants, but it takes a lot longer." Very well put.

Hmmm... perhaps if they did call him Galvatron and made him purple I would like him better.

Wow, surprised there isn't more posts here, considering the original Megatron thread had some 70+ pages or something.
I know I almost missed this news, when I got home from work the story was already tucked away under all the other news items, even though the new Megs head story had only been a few hours old...
Love the new battle-mode head, too bad it's not the one on the toy

I must've missed the G1 somewhere in here.......all I see is a Bayformer that screams for help.

This was all done to set up the following scene...
Megs: I'll swallow your spark!
Prime: Come get some.

If I had to guess I'd say he traced the picture in flash.

nope, drew the picture in illustrator, no tracing, but drew the picture over the top of the original megtron concept for proportions
Eh close enough.

It looks basically the same to me, and I don't like the Optimus helmet either. But whatever I'm more concerned w/ the script anyway, as long as the script and action are okay i'm fine w/ the physical Transformation updates. I knew I wouldn't really like them anyhow. I like G-1, and more of a smoother look, not all this Bionical-aliens crap. But again, I'm just happy to have a Transformer movie, hopefully We'll be hearing something about Frank Welker soon, IMO his voice fits this look and style to a Tee.
