My want: A line of movie based novels

Postby Bonger » Tue Jul 03, 2007 12:07 am

I really enjoyed reading the Movie Prequel novel and the Movie novel.

This got me thinking that I would definately be onboard for a line of books extending the movie universe and continuing the story, as I have always enjoyed books much more than comics. I'm thinking something similar to the Star Wars books.

So, does anyone know of any plans for such a project?

So I'm not alone in having read the prequel and the book version of the movie, I was starting to think I was a freak.

A movie based book series would be a great idea! Meanwhile, their is a TF book trilogy that I have read that is.... interesting, but not bad. The first book was written by Scott Ciencin, the second and third books were by David Cian.

Anyone else read this trilogy?

I haven't. What continuity are they set it?

Well, I HAD to read the prequel novel so that I could get updated on what this continuity was all about.

I was pleasantly surprised. Not necesarily the best writing, but entertaining nevertheless. I'd definately be down for more.

I thought I was a freak too for reading the prequel novel! I loved it and tore through it in two days. I plan to read the movie novel next. I'd be up for a whole series of books too.

The movie was awesome, but I need more character development. The book does a good job with that. I thought there needed to be more dialog between the Decepticons in the movie to flesh things out. Too much time was spent on the humans.

I really liked the prequel novel as the setup for the movie. I bought & read the thing in a few days, and while it didn't ruin any of the coming movie story for me (which I managed to not get spoiled, thank God), it set up this fresh reboot of the continuity for me in a very effective way. I especially liked the little hint of this Universe's Transformers' origins (pp 142-3).

It was, for whatever it's worth, a far better prequel than the crap IDW thing.

I'd love to see DelRay get some of their A-list talent penning some novels. It would be a good way of keeping fresh and new perspectives on the TF mythos.

I've read the prequel novel and was pleasantly surprised by it. It does a good job of adding some much needed emotional depth and Decepticon characterisation (it's almost as if Foster thought he needed to compensate for the lack of said characterisation in the movie).

I sincerely hope that the movie universe gets expanded through novels and comics. Because of my total apathy for the Unicron trilogy it's my continuity of choice.

I'd love to see more books. Although, as much as I'm enjoying aspects of Ghosts of Yesterday, I can't help but wonder what Cian's draft looked like. He did a darn good job salvaging the Dreamwave trilogy books(I'll go on record as saying the first book is the worst thing to ever bear the Transformers name, and I'm including the You Can Read! books), and Alan Dean Foster's writing in the book is... well, not all that great from a technical standpoint, IMHO. To be fair, though, I do think he said he was brought in late. I've not read the novelization to compare.

You know, if they did more Transformers books, I'd LOVE to see Robert J. Sawyer take one on. He's just amazing, and I think he could make a real interesting TF story.

Yea I have read them. I thought they were okay, the plot was a little spastic. But hey it's still worth a read. I have also read Ghosts Of Yesterday, that one I felt was a little better. Just my opinion...

And man is it nothing to search for. I didn't hate it but the spelling errors alone were enough to make me cringe.

We need to get Eric Nylund in to write a book or two. It's utterly amazing how well he has expanded the 'Halo' universe. Sad most have never read those novels. Most still think Chief is the only Spartan alive...Oh sorry. Transformers. Yeah.
