I just saw this today, and I instantly wanted one really bad! You gotta check it out. It's just too bad it won't be released until 2009...

Nintendo sucks. They have NO IDEA what the market wants. Why in gods name would they omit the GBA port? And why in gods name does the DS need a camera? I just wanna ask: How do you play guitar hero: on tour on the new DS without a GBA slot? I've often told people the DS is worth picking up just because its the best GBA on the market... guess not anymore!!

Me personally I'll stick with my Crimson Red/Black DS lite! If Nintendo were smart they'd bring out a whole new handheld not a new "epic fail" DS! Thats how I see the thing personally. If i had to do it again I would of asked for a PSP for christmas instead of a DS!

Eh, I got a DS, I have four games for it.

And considering how often I play the DS, there really isn't a point for me to rush out and get the newest one when it hits.

Is it April Fools again? This is really dumb. I don't need a camera. The system is slightly smaller and the screens are slightly bigger. Whoop dee doo! I do like that it'll have music playback and web-browsing built-in, and that you can download games. But I just bought a DS lite a couple days ago. And I still have my DS phat. I don't need 3.

If this new model drives down the price of the old models that'll be nice since I will need a DS soon. :P I won't get my hopes up though.

thats the news that really pissed me off. I mean for one thing the Game boy Advance library is MUCH MUCH better than the DS library, and the GBA slot is not just for BC, its also an accessory port, ie the guitar grip. Guitar Hero: On Tour is one of the best selling and most fun games on the system, yet on the new DS you won't be able to use it!

I bought the DS because I had so much fun with my GBA I didn't think the DS would dissapoint. After you play all 5 awesome games on the system, you realize there are a **** ton of games and nearly all of them suck! Why the DS is outselling the PSP? I still have no idea. After seeing my friends PSP's at work I feel I made the wrong decision honestly!

Half of the GBA library was ports. There were a lot of good original games, but I wouldn't say the library was better.

Guitar Hero: On Tour got mixed reviews, and isn't even in the top thirty in DS sales.

Five?

New Super Mario Bros.
Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice series
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and Dawn of Sorrow
Mario Kart DS
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword
MegaMan ZX

That's twelve, and that's only a partial list.

Hyperbole, mostly. People criticize Sony, even when it's not deserved. Not to mention all it has going for it, as a system, is prettier graphics and better sound, but that doesn't make it better. In the end, PSP has it's fair share of good games, but the list is about as big as DS's.

yes I think its a major **** they removed the GBA slot. ANd regardless of your opinion of guitar hero: on tour, it did NOT get mediocre reviews! Last I checked IGN gave it a 8 out of 10 which is a rather high review, and honestly its probably one of the best, if not the best game on the system. Not to mention their is a sequel planned for it, so how is nintendo going to solve this problem now that the guitar grip is incompatible with the new DSi model. Another thing I have a problem with is the very fact its just a stop gap sequel to the DS. Nintendo needs to make one **** system and just stick with it. THis redesigning **** 2005832 times is just getting old. The DS has been out since 2004, and the PSP owns it on graphics. Its time to bring out its successor not another re-design!

It got a 6/10 on GameSpot and a B- from 1Up.com. IGN is not the only reviewer out there.

The BloodRayne movie go a sequel too. Doesn't mean it was good.

The DS has been redesigned twice. The GBA has been redesigned twice. The PSP has been redesigned twice.

The graphics aren't the real problem the real problems are the fact is those poopy DS cartridges that are the same size as an SD card, can only hold like 256Meg, while the Sony UMD disc can hold like 2 gig! If the DS had a little more storage I think they could do more with games and graphics.

And **** what the other reviewers say... take a review from me. Guitar Hero: on Tour is 9 out of 10, its only flaw is their aren't a whole lot of songs. Thats a review from a real person, not some stupid Gaming site that gets paid millions of dollars to review a game.

The trade off is that cartridge games don't have load screens.

I've heard that the add-on is a bit hard to hold, and that too much use can give a cramp.

Not only does that contradict your last post (Specifically your point about IGN), it's also completely wrong. For one thing, gaming sites do no get paid "Millions of dollars" to review a game, second, you're implying that game reviewers are not actual people.

Well my point is anyway the new DS model sucks. I don't see the point, and I've only had my DS lite since last christmas... why would I wanna go spend $130 again to have a new one? And also why are they making it even thinner? honestly the DS lite is already too small... try playing a game that requires the stylus for long hours and you'll see what I mean. Theres no good way to hold the system. The original wasn't very pretty to look at it, and the screen sucked, but it was a lot more comfortable on the hands.

Also announcing the model at the time they did they just killed the DS lite sales for Christmas. Why would anyone want one now when they can just wait till next year and get a better model?

See, I have to disagree. I've played stylus-heavy games (Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, I DARE you to find a game that requires more use of the stylus), but I found it was actually quite comfortable.

Just so you know, there's a new PSP being released next week. In exchange for a slightly larger and more powerful screen, the battery life drops by twenty minutes. (Dropping it to about three and a half hours)

The battery life for the PSP and the PSP Slim is around 4-7 hours depending on screen settings. I think it's a trade-off for the better graphics and sound, because the DS Lite lasts 5-19 hours depending on screen settings.

And the usage of optical discs also leads to loading screens. It's kind of funny, games with long load screens (I'm looking at you, Crisis Core, with your fifty hours of gameplay and smexy in-game graphics and pre-rendered cutscenes, but the damn five second wait for the menu) are wasting the battery life of the system.

Well I look at the usage of Opitical discs a f*** up by Sony. Its not that I have a problem with the fact that Nintendo doesn't use Optical discs. My problem is these days you can get up to 16GB SD cards, yet Nintendo chose 256MB for their game cards. That really doesn't give developers enough space to do a whole lot.

And its not like i expected the DS to have 16GB cartridges or anything like that, but 1 to 2GB isn't a whole lot to ask is it?

I went ahead and started pricing 16GB SD Cards. They're around $30, which is about the price of a new DS game. Meaning you'd be paying maybe around $50 for a DS game.

Not to mention they'd have to redesign the DS if they were to implement this new tech, which would end up with a price increase on the DS.

like I said I didn't expect them to make games on cards that big, in fact they'd have a hard time filling up 16GB of data just for the nintendo DS. But how cool would it be to say have Phantom Hourglass with full speech! Have games full of video and soundeffects. How about instead of Guitar Hero on tour, a full port of Guitar Hero 3?

Hard to do all that when you only have 256 megs to work with. If it was 2 expensive at the time, thats fine, but allowing the DS to accept larger cards for the future wouldn't of been a bad idea. The DS has the same problem the N64 did and its why the N64 failed. The Largest N64 cartridge was 64MB, while a the CD's that playstation games were on were 700MB. N64 may of had more power, but the Playstation could still make a lot better games.

Honestly I think the hardware in the DS is enough... and for the most part I have little complaint about the graphics. ITs just the compromise the games get because of the lack of storage space!A

As a Zelda fan, I can say: No. Zelda is better off without spoken dialogue. It'd be like giving the Doom Dude spoken dialogue.

Cormaster628 wrote:Have games full of video and soundeffects.

That is what a video game is.

Cormaster628 wrote:How about instead of Guitar Hero on tour, a full port of Guitar Hero 3?

A good idea, but with one problem: Count the frets on the GH or Rock Band guitars, then count the ones on the Guitar grip.

Cormaster628 wrote:The DS has the same problem the N64 did and its why the N64 failed.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa! The N64 failed? How did it fail? I always figured a console only really failed if it got taken off the market before it could put out a successor console.

Not to mention, N64 had a huge number of good games, before Microsoft went and pulled Rare right out from under their feet.

Cormaster628 wrote:The Largest N64 cartridge was 64MB, while a the CD's that playstation games were on were 700MB. N64 may of had more power, but the Playstation could still make a lot better games.

Define "Better." Because in all honesty, I'd rather play Star Fox 64 or Ocarina of Time than any PS1 game. (Except for Ape Escape, that damn addicting bastard)

I don't know what is being compromised other than the GBA slot. I just don't see the point in omitting it. From my understanding its being omitted so they can make the system thinner... why in gods name does it need to be thinner? Also one of the big things about the DS lite was the improved battery life...so why make this one have less battery life? I understand the screens are larger... so what do you do? put a higher capacity battery in it! Its not rocket science you know?

But more or less most of the things about the DSi are improved, its just the lack of the GBA slot is annoying. I understand Nintendo's thinking, and they are right. I haven't touched my GBA collection much at all ever since I got my DS. However it's also an accessory port. Thats the PRIMARY reason nintendo put the GBA port in it!

Just seems stupid that GH:OT already has a sequel on the way, and they are making a system that you won't even be able to play the new sequel on!

You said the games were having something "compromised" because of storage space.

Who said anything about the DSi having a shorter battery life? I was talking about the PSP-3000 series (Currently nicknamed PSP Bright) having a shorter battery life.

I think the primary reason for the GBA slot, MAY have been for GBA games.
