Everyone my age seems to be in such a **** hurry to find someone and get hitched or screw like rabbits. Whatever happened to taking the time and finding someone who's personality and stuff compliment your own. Now it seems more like a race than anything.

Sad.

Wow. :APPLAUSE: You just summed up the way I feel, except that I wouldn't mind having a girlfriend.

I guess I'm just very cautious. I don't want to put myself out there and get shot down.

I feel part of that fear is watching others relationships crash and burn, like Zuko said.

I have a friend up north that is married, has a 1 year old son, no job (he occassionly bounces at a club, but it's not a consistant, nor huge amount of revenue), no education, plenty of debt.

That right there scares me as well. I don't want that life, I'm not ready to be a husband or father. So the easiest way to avoid both is to not have a girlfriend. :?

So like I said, I'd like to have a girlfriend, but the fear of a premature adult life holds me back from even looking. Plus I'm too busy with college and work I guess. :?

I have the hugest chance at having a girlfriend. She cute, funny, sharp as a tack, and, most importantly, isn't freaked out by me.

If I lose her, I might as well declare lifetime celibacy.

Admittedly I hardly know you FB, but I don't think you're silly enough to believe that you're going to hit the nail on the head the first time out.

Simple fact is, you have to get out there, you have to get shot down. Hell yeah it's going to suck, and hell yeah even if you don't get shot down you could still end up getting hurt.

But frankly, being hurt is part of life. You'd be hard pressed to find someone in the world who can live their entire life without experiencing some form of emotional pain.

Get out there, take a bullet or ten. Trust me, at your age I felt the same way. Don't waste nearly 10 years like I did.

I so totally second that. I'm going to be 26 in a few days. I do not have a boyfriend. I do not want a boyfriend. I dated in high school and it just wasn't for me. If it'll make you happy to get married, have 2.5 kids, and buy a station wagon, bravo to you, go for it. But why be surprised, or in some cases, seemingly offended that isn't what I'm looking for in life?

BTW, I've never felt lonely or depressed over Valentine's day. Last year I surprised my grandparents with chocolates and presents. This year I'm going to a bake sale. So especially don't let people talk you into dreading Valentine's day just because you're single; it's such a fun holiday.*

*There's a Weasel-Stomping Day joke in here, but I, as usual, am too lazy to look for it.

Oh, I've taken many emotional bullets. I was a favorite target of bullies growing up. Not trying to earn pity here, but from my point of view, I try to stay out of the firing range if I can. :?

I'm sure it is. But I've never been in love in the first place, so I can't compare it to actually feel a difference.

Pschyologically, they're the same to me until I experience otherwise.

Don't compare things when you have absolutely no idea what one of the things in comparison is even like. To think that way is to close minded.

Sorry, but it's just my nature to assume the worst. It may be closed minded, but it's the way I am. I don't know if I have it in me to change.

Like I said though, I'm pretty busy with school and work, so it's not something I'm going to obsess over. If fate has it that I find a woman I like, I may grow a pair and ask her out, but in the meantime I shall stay the course. :D

Bullying hurts longer and can cause emotional and psychological scars.

A broken heart is different from perosn to person. On one they may shrug it off. On another they may become horribly depressed.

It's very hard to say which hurts more.

I got out of a 5yr relation"****" not too long ago. After numerous on and off's again, I decided to kick her to curb and move on. Not even a month later, met this awesome chick and now we've been together for 2 months. I was happy being single for the time being. I wasn't looking for anything in particular but she just so happened to fall into my life. Only reasons to be single; you save alot of money and have more free time to... build an Ark? Naw, but you do get to hang with your friends more and thats always cool.

So don't break your head over this. The more you chase after something; the more it plays hide and seek with you. Just let it be.

You know that episode of "The Twilight Zone" where that bookworn is happy because the nuclear bombs have killed everyone? I want to be that guy. Except without the broken glasses.

I have little patience for Valentine's Day or for people in general. I'm quite happy being a loner and plan on keeping it that way.

You should have insinuated that at least your orfices were't crawling with parasites.

Never be bumed out about being single. It has its advantages. You save alot of money you can do what every you want.
As for valentines day it best never to start especially if you lend up marrying the person. If you do your doomed to do something every valentines for the rest of your relationship.

Okay....this thread is gettin kinda creepy, but i gotta put in my two cents.

Everyone should be not only who they wanna be, but how they wanna be-that means that u can have both zee cake and eat it.

I have a girlfriend, am in my final year in college, have a 4 year old son (different girlfriend) and still ahve time to both be a geeky collector and a nasty clubbing tattooed punk.

BUT it does take effort, and pain-i had some really had times to get where i am-i have had the crap kicked out of me in every which way, from bullies in school to a seriously damaging and abusive ex.

But life goes on, get through it and get happpt with who u are  like the poet said, "Quit your whining and fight your away through it!"
"Dammit-You mean he's not dead???" Thats right! Im back and Im leading my Army of Misfits up from the ashes!!!!!!!

Ill also be taking requests again-so if u wanna join Grims army click here or here and sign up!!!!!!!

Is that because of a lack of success up to now? Trying to convince yourself that the solitude is self-enforced?

It's OK, you can cry if you want to. I'm here for you, brother. In a COMPLETELY non-sexual way.

I'll be 20 in less then a month and i'm still a virgo and proud to be so. For me, sex is not something I desperatly need just because. It's something I wanna 'keep' for that one special person.
So if someone was to make 'fun' of me because of that I would just shrug. I really can't see it as an insult.

In the mean time, my furious right hand and *coughhentaicough* will keep me busy :P
