Nope, they really hit the nail on the head with Venom.

Actually, they did nail Venom perfectly. His first couple of appearances were like that. "Get a mad hard-on for killing Spidey, scare Mary Jane, beat up Spider-man, then lose to Spider-man"

Venom didn't become as awesome as he is until he got his own series.

I saw it on opening day, & I was overall impressed & thought it was a good movie, but was dissapointed with Venom a bit. Was it just me, or when he had his "Venom face" going, did it look a tad too big for his body...kinda like they CG'd it over Topher's normal head a bit too large? Also, didn't seem to fit having his voice coming out of the Venom face, for reasons already explained in this thread. One thing I was pleasntly suprised about is that the movie did not follow the path I figured it would. I really thought going into it that Peter's "OMG this suit is EEvil & I need to tear it off of me" moment would come from him killing his buddy Harry with the disfiguring pumpkin bomb he threw back at him, not from going nuts on MJ, & then Eddie in the end would be shown as the better man & learn to control the symbiote to some degree & then go all anti-hero, & then he & Spidey would tag-team & kick the Sandman's arse in the end(Keep in mind I knew nothing of Sandman's origins).

To me, Venom was nothing more than fan service to Remi....just a quick, "there you saw him, now let's drop it & move on." kind of thing....cause you know that's probably what he's been hearing day in & day out since he started the first one.....It'd be kinda like TF fans hounding Bay about Unicron's inevitable appearence. But anyway...yeah overall I liked it, just had a few fan-based quelms about it.

I don't want to see Carnage. I think he's a fine character in comics, but Carnage is such an R villain. If he were brought in, either he would either totally darken the Spidey movies or we'd see such a tamed version of Carnage that he wouldn't even be him. Imagine a Spidey movie with a slaughter, or Carnage without the slaughter. Besides, we've already had one derivative villain in the movies.

Ah, like how Carnage was portrayed in the 90's Animated series, merely "sucking energy" out of civilians for some portal thingy. I'm not exactly knocking it, cause I know it was a Saturday morning show, and it was rated TV Y for goodness sakes. Still, the 90's series was pretty cool, and one of my favorites.

But I wouldn't want to see anything like that in a movie, but I also wouldn't want him as dark as what few I've read of him in the comics. I read I think it was called "Cyber Carnage" #1, which dealt with animal and human cruelty, and refused to read it again. I don't know why, but I just shuddered when I read it. And yet I want to finally track down the last few issues I need of the old "Maximum Carnage" storyline someday so I can finally read it through.....

But anyways, I finally saw it the other day with my brother(been busy all month), and I must say I enjoyed the movie thourouly. Few things....

I don't belive Venom is dead. Some say they saw Eddie's skeleton or something? Meh, if popular demand is high enough, he'll be back for Spidey 4. It's a comic-book movie, and very few people in comics stay dead. And plus, he was so underused, it would be a crime for him NOT to come back.

Yeah, the main problem with the movie was too much was crammed into it. Despite that though, it did a LOT less to hurt the overall franchise than X3 did.

Wished for a couple more expanded scenes honestly. Spider-Man gets the black suit, and then switches to him giving a sample to Doc Conners. Ok, why was there no "test run" or reaction to the suit? Spidey didn't even fight any muggers in the film, and this would have been a perfect place to put them. Also wish they had Eddie talking to the symbiote when it first bonded to him, explaining how it knew of Spider-Man's powers, and his weaknesses.

Speaking of Spidey first getting the black suit, that shot of him seeing his reflection in the mirror, did that EVER happen in the comics? If not, then it was a direct homage to the 90's animated series, in which it did happen.

Thought the Sandman was great. I like how they referenced his turning good guy in the comics a little bit, and I kind of like the idea of some villians repenting in general. Also I loved the scene of him coming out of the sand for the first time, and adapting to his newfound powers. And him turning out to be Uncle Ben's killer worked for movie purposes.

Harry helping out Peter was a bit strange, but I kinda liked it.

All in all, a good movie that I will definitely want to watch again.

Phategod1 wrote:Sorry I had to do that. But I went the nerd route and saw the 12:05 show. I must say I loved it. It wasn't perfect And you can tell Raimi Doesn't have a appreciation for the Duality of venom. He could not see past his motivated hate for Peter. So if your a real venom fan expect to be disappointed. But I think Raimi finally gets Spidey right. For once even before he gets the black suit. Spidey has confidence and he's cocky "you must not know whose the sheriff round here". Now for the "Saturday Night Fever part" very easy to explain. Have you ever wondered what Bill Gates was like the day he made his 1st Million from Microsoft? I'll tell you he bebopping In the middle of street like nerd he was. That what peter was he was Nerd who finally thought he was cool or a rebel. the expressions of "WTF is this white boys problem" on all of the women's faces is almost worth the price of admission. The Mask Scene was a little over done, and damnit why did I have to hear MJ sing again. Bryce Dallas Howard would have made a Perfect MJ she has curves and looks a hell of a lot closer to a model then Dunst plus she's a lot more vibrant and personable then Dunst. If dunst showed up at my door and said "face it tiger you just hit the Jackpot" I probably would have followed it up with "What..., do you swallow?" I loved the effects of SP3, and the thought I kept thinking is "Raimi doesn't give a F$ck about this being or looking ludicrous." What he did is take a risk. maybe now we see things like a 100 ft. tall Galactus, a Alien invasion headed by Darkseid. Kudos man keep trying to push the envelope. But There was way too much Crying, way to Pining ove lost love and "the Twist" scene annoyed me but I saw the neccessity of it those annoying moments made you enjoy the moments when Harry and Peter cut loose. and sorry to Disagree with SN but Franco was born to do the "Coffee House" scene as harry Osborn it was his best scene of his short career. The Butler was pointless I wish they had hired someone who could act or maybe had stan do that part with a better script. Speaking Of Stan his Cameo was also very good, and if this is Spidermans swan song it was fitting. I think Brock was nice but the Venom thing was too brief, and They do nothing to explain the black ooze. Something they did in early 90's cartoon briefly but completely. I wished Peter would have been a little darker maybe use a swear word or two but what he is, is a evil nerd which explains the bebopping. Raimi PO'ed me with the following Killing Brock, Killing harry just when i was starting to like him. Not killing MJ, and the Sandman, and Peter returning to his emo roots in the end. Sorry If took too much time and didn't paragraph enough I give movie a B+ a little Pretentious but clearly head and shoulders above any other Comic book movie.

I give it a B!

Venom: Very dissappointing, he indeed was in the movie very briefly too. Didn't expand much on the Symbiot! I love Venom but I guess Ramia didn't!
