Theory on the G-1 Transformation Sound.
I have watched the movie like 8 times since it's debut, and I gotta say i love it every time I see it.. and the G-1 sound IMHO has got to be a transformation sound strictly for the heads of these bots, it's like the only time I hear it sound is when their heads transform..except in Blackout's case where you can't see it because he has so much Kibble being thrown around..Bottom line, I think it's just the transformation sound that is made once their head locks into place, denoting their Posatronic Brains are in tact and working, or that their head is locked into place..

Ok, if that were true it would suck, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt...

I'm sorry to disagree with you, but I'm positive that they only tossed us that little bone (ie- the "transformation sound"), just to make us go "WoooHooo!"
It makes no sense for the sound effect to be there, metal on metal scraping/sliding/moving yes, but the "Wher-wer-wer" (or however you like to write it out) is just out of place...
Of course, this is just my opinion, and I've got to say that I was grinning like the rest of us when I heard the sound in the movie... But, in my mind, it was only a bit of fan-service placed there by whomever snuck it into the film...

I don't care that the sound doesn't really serve a purpose in their transformation. I'm just glad they threw it in there. And how would you write it, "eh, eh, eh" "wra wra wra"? It's impossible to describe in letters.

I'm sure it was there to please us fans who liked the movie. But my thought was that parts shift, the noise, then final transformation. To me that could be a like a transformation cog activating to finish the transform. You do hear it more than once, all at about the same points in their transformations.

I agree... ok so maybe it was a fan homage, but for me I have to find a way to logically justify it being there other then fan placement...So Maybe it's not a Transformation sound per say like the metal moving or something like that, rather it's a warning sound that comes on near completion of Transformation..?? I still think it's a sound that some vital piece of engineering makes while transforming, like maybe the Spark chamber reinforcing itself as the bot body changes..

Maybe it's their transformation cogs or circuits being completely activated. Or not. I mean, the cell phone makes the noise before it transforms, so that is plausible. Though the others do it while beginning to Transform.

I very much like the idea that it is a 'confirmation' sound that all systems are go(so to speak), and that the transformation is complete.
I do hope that we see something like that in the next movie; would be a great way of adding interesting tid-bits to the Movie Universe and of keeping fans happy.

You mean you can actually hear it? The only places I could catch it was in the chamber scene where the mobile phone robot comes to Life, and in the trailer where Optimus transforms. But that's only in the trailer though... I've watched and listened closely to that scene when Optimus transforms and there's no sound.

Watch the Blackout scene; it should be fairly obvious when Blackout transforms.

Also, you hear it in slow motion when Ironhide is flipping over that girl. Plus it MIGHT be there when BB changes and catches Sam and Mikeala. I'm not sure, though.

I think the most accurate way to describe it would be "chroo-chr0-chra-chri"

I say the transformation sound represents a reboot of their operating system from vechicle to robot. At least that's how I justify it.

I like it being in there soemtimes. It doesnt realy make sense, but, as long as they dont overdue it and just put hints of the sound in, or modifcations of the sound, like Ironhides, that was great, or blackouts, then its cool. I saw it a second time and i was able to pick it out a few more times in different scenes.. so it's pretty subtle.
Who knows, maybe its some sort of internal sound, i dont know how to explain it, maybe just kick starting the transformation process, with their own tech, then we hear the kibble (the extra plating, metal, etc)
None the less, they did a good job with it.

Obviously noone in the post is familliar with hydrolics!...Because when u think about it the G1 transformation sounds makes perfect sense!...If u have a sunroof on ur car, a cd player that ejects, use a forklift or anything like that u'd know that the sound is highly possible....Because those hydraluics move slow and Transformers would move a 100 times faster!...so the noise makes a lot of sense. And the metal hitting metal explanation is what makes no sense...A Transformer wouldn't last as long as ur car would without oil for moving metal parts that hit together with no lubricant on them!...and none of them in the movie looked liked they were lubed up and shiny!
...They should have incorporated the G1 sound much more in the movie to me for reality not nostalgia!
