Actually, that's not half bad of an idea. Just make weapon damage a function of Firepower, and allow the player to name his weapon the same as he can name his bot. I mean, integrated weapons are becoming a major part of Transformer design, just look at most of the current toys that integrate the weapon into the transformation, or the movie designs.
I'll +1 this one into next week. I've really been finding it hard to make weapons work conceptually with my cons as a lot of really good weapons(at least conceptually) are unfortunately woefuly lacking compared to weapons I would rather never use(such as dols, BBs, PPFs, X-Rays, etc.).
The way I see it is that we add two new function slots on the transformer character: one a hand weapon and one an alt-mode specific weapon. Then make the weapons have certain attributes that you select with a system similar to how you equip weapons on the transformer's character page. Like the hand weapons would have melee/range/, then a series of stats that are capped based on your transformers stats(Firepower for damage, speed for recharge, skill for accuracy, etc.), and bought with energon(The costs would be based on current weapon stats and would need to be balanced partially by lvl.). The altmode weapon would have a type setting for melee/range/other, a toggle that determines whether the weapon can be used in robot mode as well as transformed or altmode only(This would affect the energon price and statistical requirements for the weapon), plus the same statistical cap system as the weapon.
And while I'm brainstorming, why now let us have a custom name for our altmode that shows up when a tactic goes off? Instead of 'lameobot transforms into a spaceshuttle and strafes dorkobot', why not fix it where it says 'lameobot transforms into a and strafes dorkobot'? Might not be as big a priority as the new weapon system would be, but it woud be something to place on the 'to do eventually list'.
