Women and transformers

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

Postby Moonbase2 » Sun Oct 07, 2007 6:08 pm

I don't have daughters of course, but I have never looked at Bratz as toys I would've wanted as a girl...ok, maybe some of the accessories, but not the dolls themselves. Barbie may be unnattainable beauty, but at least she doesn't look downright slutty. She is just pretty. And why can't they make girl toys that are more than just baby dolls and well, dolls period? Or cooking/cleaning stuff? Why not market more stuff that requires some real brainwork, like boys' stuff? I THOUGHT we were trying to advance our gender, not keep it firmly implanted in the 1950s...oh well. I guess little girls will always like dolls (myself included), but we should also encourage other toys as well.

I loved my legos and tinkertoys, blocks were cool too. I guess I just really liked building stuff. Still do when it comes down to it. BTW do any of you older girls remember the SeaWees?

I find it ironic that as I reply to this the IMVU adverstiment is in my sidebar But I think there is a status quo for girls when we're born that all we are suppost to do is play with toys and be cute. And its somewhat a tramadic experance for us girls to stray away and become butch. (mainly christian right)
But then again there were girls interested in transformer toys and some parents went into panic mode and though that was inaprorate for girls to play with. And didn't buy them for thier daughters. There was on the news at that time when He-man was getting a female audience. concern over children playing with toys not of thier gender can be a sign of them turning gay. LOL now but that was how hot a topic it was according to what I reserched.

We should encurage girls to play with something other than dolls and to get them toys that do challenge them.
Parents should demand that from toy companies. There is nothing wrong with dolls and play kitchens and play household idoms I just think toys need to be reserched and revamped so there is no more gender in toys.
And no more of them being manufactured in a communist country!

That's crap. My favorite toys as a kid were cars, dinosaurs, Transformers, action figures, and dolls and I turned out just fine. I don't believe that the toys a kid plays with have that great an impact on their mentality. How the kids are raised by their parents, the other people these kids interact with, and their environment are the critical factors. I'm not saying this doesn't affect their mindset, because it certainly can, but it's not the only thing.

If I ever have kids, you can bet I'll be buying them Transformers to play with :b

The only problem I have though with the "advancement" we're getting..Look at the newest Arcee stuff..The whole point behind the new transformers is that they wanted to get away from the human concepts..2 eyes, nose, mouth, hands, etc..And make them look like organic machines...Not even needing to be bipedal in form. So they're all made like that..Until we get Arcee..Ok, fine, so an alien civilization has 2 sexes, ok..But, why does the figure need to have curves, and some resemblance to breasts to show that it's female, IT'S FEET ARE ACTUALLY HIGH HEELED SHOES and of course it has make up on..Oh, and hair too..That's not advancement. It's stupid.

I'm only 13, didn't see the original, but I did see RID and the Unicron Trilogy. I have G1 Season 1 on DVD, but don't like it much... :HEADHURTS:

Any particular reason why?

I'm asking out of curiosity, not as a "GeeWunner" out to defend his precious cartoon. But I am curious as to what a young fan such as yourself doesn't like about G1.

I belong to the G1 era. And yet, i was not impressed with the initial few episodes either. It's the way the animation was made. Too many simplifications. Too many bloopers that we just have to swallow and imagine what should have been in our minds.

I think this should be the reason that turns off young fans of present generation. Especially so in this modern age when cartoons are so much polished now.

But shortly after the few episodes when the story caught on, i became a fan too, willing to overlook all the animation errors and laziness.

I am the exact same age as G1, yet either the cartoon slipped past me, or I simply don't remember it. I've just discovered it in the last three or four months as a grown adult, and I love it, despite the errors.

I was already an adult when the series came out (I just had my 52nd birthday just this past Saturday) but I always thought it was cool! I wished I could have had such cool toys when I was a child too and I regret not getting any back then. I made it a point to get some now though. Still very cool stuff!

Ding ding ding! :D

I used to watch Ninja Turtles and other boy cartoons when I was little, because my baby sitter had a son...maybe there was a chance I watched it. Until this year I only associated Beast Wars with Transformers. I had to learn all about G1. I much, much, much, much, prefer G1.

See I kinda find it fun and at times humorus such as when there are three Starscreams or when Prowl's head suddenly disapears. Or when Jazz is captured but back safely at the ark. Or in this clip when Dr. Claw makes a sudden cameo apperance as Soundwave.
