Oh, did I? I'm sorry, I'd thought that people would actually understand a hypothetical scenario when they saw one.Although I'm unsure what you mean by "Other points' because I really only had one point in the post you seem to be fighting so hard over.

Neutralstate, thanks for the defense. After Jeep's rather inflammatory post, I was just going to let this sit and see what happened. Nice to see someone saw my point

WoW is just a game. A terrible terrible game. I remember when RPGs had storylines. A beginning, middle, and end. And a sense of accomplishment playing them. Those were the days. Also back then no one came into my living room and demanded a monthly fee or they took away my RPGs.

As far as compairing this digital waste of time to a religion... Yeah how about no. I'm an Atheist and I found that comparison to be insulting. Just because you and a bunch of other people like it does not mean it is a worthwhile pursuit. Nor is it something enlightening to live your life for.

Man I'm having a hard time being polite enough to be PG 13 here. So I'll just cut things short. Yeah... just stop Shadowman. All you're doing is flamebaiting people who don't agree with you.

I wasn't comparing WoW to a religion. In fact, in the entire post, I never even mentioned WoW. I was saying how the term "It's only a game' can be as insulting to gamers as the examples I posted can be insulting to other people.

You've stated Ragnarok, the Epic Battle that will tear the Universe asunder. Happy? You've just doomed the Universe! And when we're floating in the Void, we'll all just ignore you.

I find that mildly offensive as I am a practicing norseologist :P

Back on topic WOW a failure LOL.

I played that darn game for 2 years and it's still by far the best rpg on the market. I agree with the OP on guild wars as well. What these marketing genusis fail to realize is that in order for a product to be sucsessful said product must be A. something that poeple want and B. a good product.

I didn't play wow to make friends and socialize I played it because it was a great game. Infact in my opinion the next great MMO will have less social interaction(wow was even headed that way when I quit more 5 man instances and such). How many times did you log onto wow and spend an hour+ just trying to find 5 people to do a dungeon...I know it happend to me more than was enjoyable and this was one of the big reasons I stopped playing and it just got old.

The first company that puts out an MMO the quality of WOW with all the content geared toward single player, and 2-3 man party's will make a killing regardless of wether or not it has a subscription fee.

Agreed.

The trend in MMOs seems to be towards requiring fewer and fewer people.

EQ is a prime example.

People got tired of the raid-or-die and "you shouldn't solo" mentalities(not to mention the devs, wait time, etc.), and EQ started to lose players. When WoW came out, with focus on grouping and... *gasp* even some soloing(!), people left for it.

Now that WoW is top dog, my prediction is that we'll see numerous "WoW-killers" be released in the next couple years, and the one that will actually wrest the top spot from WoW will again be a casual-friendly, low-wait time game.

Personally I think Guild Wars 2 is looking like a good candidate. It already has a base, it's improving on the original(less instances, more freedom, more customization), and if Guild Wars is any indicator it should be fairly friendly to soloers.

Damn this thread! - I finally got round to having a look at the WoW 10 day trial, I now have no prospects of going outside for the next week.
