I wouldn't mind one, I had to throw mine out wen the battery expired, it was cool though you just put it in some light to charge it during the day so it would be fully charged once you needed it at night.
Modern ones are likely going to be better than the crappy old one I had.

Not entirely sure. But I think he was making a joke. About Solar powered flash lights being useless at night. Due to no sun to charge up them up at night, for night use.

Think this joke might have made sense years ago. These days don't think it does. As the solar powered flash lights technology has improved vastly. To the point they can charge up during the day then hold a charge much longer than they use to, for night time use.

I've got solar powered lawn lights that absorb the sun during the day. Then stay lit for hours at a time during the night.

It an old joke. Why would you need a flashlight that can only works in broad daylight ? Bringing up "charging for night time use" killed the joke. Kind of like I did by not playing along about a tree sized Unicron.

Their is no such thing as a solar powered device that can't hold a charge. Most of them need to absorb a decent amount of solar energy first, store it, then use it when it's needed.

Their is no such thing as a solar powered device that can't hold a charge. Most of them need to store up a decent amount of solar energy first, store it, then use it when it's needed.

You are wrong. Solar powered calculators do not hold a charge. If you cover the solar cell with your finger, the screen goes blank. (I own one) That is the type of solar power I was referring to in the joke.

Correct me if im wrong, but wasnt the purpose of this thread to report one big lame dad joke? The only thing lamer was how everybody was playing along and I was the only one with the testicular fortitude to say the whole thing was stupid. Stupid enough to match the solar power joke the way it was intended without intervention from science specialists.

Im not mad. Just shocked I had to take a pic of a 20 year old calculator to explain the logic of a joke to a bunch of guys in their mid 30s....
