I wouldn't mind one, I had to throw mine out wen the battery expired, it was cool though you just put it in some light to charge it during the day so it would be fully charged once you needed it at night.
Modern ones are likely going to be better than the crappy old one I had.

Not entirely sure. But I think he was making a joke. About Solar powered flash lights being useless at night. Due to no sun to charge up them up at night, for night use.
Think this joke might have made sense years ago. These days don't think it does. As the solar powered flash lights technology has improved vastly. To the point they can charge up during the day then hold a charge much longer than they use to, for night time use.
I've got solar powered lawn lights that absorb the sun during the day. Then stay lit for hours at a time during the night.

Where ?
Show me a link for flashlights that only operate in broad daylight by means of solar power. My joke said "solar powered flashlight" not "solar charged flashlight". Theres a big difference between something that actually powers a device by means of solar power vs. something that charges a battery for later use by means of solar power. Before people try to get all literal, they should actually read the words.

Their is no such thing as a solar powered device that can't hold a charge. Most of them need to store up a decent amount of solar energy first, store it, then use it when it's needed.
Rated X wrote:Solar powered calculators do not hold a charge. That is the type of solar power I was referring to in the joke.

No, You clearly mentioned a solar powered flash light as a example in your joke.

The solar powered flashlight joke is decades old and is based on the solar cell concept that drives the calculators only under bright light. Its not my fault if a bunch of guys are so obsessed with science and technology that they cant grasp good old fashioned humor.

It's not my fault you can't keep up with the times and are stuck in the past with outdated definition of the term "solar powered" and make lame dad jokes.
Rated X wrote:Correct me if im wrong, but wasnt the purpose of this thread to report one big lame dad joke? The only thing lamer was how everybody was playing along and I was the only one with the testicular fortitude to say the whole thing was stupid. Stupid enough to match the solar power joke the way it was intended without intervention from science specialists.

Oh no, I got the joke, it just wasn't a very good joke you see.
A better joke based on untrue stereo types is for instance this:
How many Germans does it take to screw in a light bulb?
One, because we're efficient and don't have a sense of humor.

X, I like you and all, but if you're going to come into a thread with the sole purpose of killing a joke, then you should have the testicular fortitude to take it on the chin when people kill yours.
