So, yeah. If they could knock FP out of the throne for me, that's saying something.
Rumour is FP and Maketoys have a "good relationship" (whatever that means) and even share designers.
Anyway, I don't have any 3rd party combiner, but I own Fansproject's Insecticons and both Maketoys Chaos/Fallen and Hypernovae/Nova Prime. They're all amazing items, perhaps Maketoys looking more solid or with a better plastic quality.
Yeah, that "good relationship" has always been a smokescreen for "We're the same people, doing different things." I believe. I mean, they've never come out and say that, of course, but you'd have to prove otherwise to me. The plastic feels the same, the factories are supposedly the same, the designs have a generalized "feel" with FP's stuff. The difference is in the details in the design. MakeToys makes the Giant bots ever so slightly off from FansProject's stuff, such as... Even thought it's the same type of plastic, MakeToys seems to have it produced thicker and more solid.
Because they supposedly use the same factories, it would explain why one company gets stuff out during the other's hiatus. They need two factories so they can get out double the awesome.
It also explains why FansProject said they wouldn't step on toes and do what someone else is doing. If MakeToys makes Computron, they profit. They were the first to have Brainstorm, but ToyWorld beat them to market with their's. So far, FP has held up their word.
All of these things make me think FansMakeToysProject are one whole entity.

I'm on the fence about the whole neck/no neck thing, because this is a combiner and the absence of the neck makes the guy look more intimidating, IMO. I mean Superion was always more elegant and needs to look slightly more 'willowy' than the other combiners. But I can live with Quantron looking rather hench.
Anyway I guess that Maketoys could always produce an aftermarket 'upgrade kit' to
rape their fans for more money make their fans more happy.
Well, he certainly does look a little too intimidating. If the neck, or lack thereof, is what provides that look, that is. And that's one thing I like about MakeToys. They give you everything you need to make it awesome, right out of the box. No double dipping in your wallet.
