What are you talking about? If anything the current marvel comics are becoming more like the movies.

				That's what I said earlier.
But we're trying to reason with someone who hasn't read comics since the 90's.

Movies based on comics or vice versa. Anyway, just gotten to read CBR Abandoned and Foresaken (should be and not Forsaked) Archives. I wish I didn't. Need 50 mg of Tramadol to get me through all the retcon garbage.

I've been on holidays for a week and I thought if I could injure my brain I could get more time off.
Turns out it just put me to sleep and I'll turn up for work relaxed and recharged tomorrow. *sigh*
Wait we are talking the recent one aren't we?
Yeah. I actually liked the Jessica Alba ones.

I never really got what all the Negative fuss was about the Tim Story FF Movies - they seemed reasonably in keeping with the tone of the comics to me they got more right than they got wrong I always thought.
I notice a lot of people complained about the lack of heavy brows and a less rocky look to the thing - the only reason I would complain about that is perhaps that when they cured Ben the return to The Thing form by Ben might have been better being a rockier form as that was how I recall it playing out originally in Many comics - Reed tries to cure Ben and only makes it worse that theme has come up more than once over the decades.
So unlike those people complaining about The Thing not being rocky enough - I was actually thinking "Oh well done for remembering his First Appearance look" and using something not unlike that.
Though I suspect some of that is just down to practicality when it's a rubber suit - there wasn't really a reason the Fant4stic The Thing had not much of a pronounced brow though.
Here is the Marvel Legends 1st Appearance Thing toy for comparison :

My beef was the way they handled doctor doom, they removed a lot of what made his character fantastic. For the record though I loved the practical effects for the Thing.

Yeah, Dr. Doom was terrible. I do get how they could have trouble making him work on screen, but come on...

Re: Marvel Movies

I just heard a comment on a Podcast that I thought bore repeating here.
which is that Re : Ant Man the reaction of the Characters was to these people on the podcast was disrepectful to Wasp for "Dying" (maybe) or at least sacrificing herself to save others - instead of them being proud of her for having the courage to act so selflessly instead you have a Daughter mad at her mother for leaving her and at her father for putting her in danger and Hank who is feeling sad about losing his partner.
No one say Wasp is an inspiration to them and that want to do the right thing no matter the personal cost like she does - no one is putting up statues to her for example.
I think they raise a good point and if Hope features "Properly" I would like see her at least attempt to address the legacy of her mother in a good way even if that eventually leads her to try to rescue her.
I would worry a little that if they did do that in a sequel the Movie would be tempted to kill Hank off at that time much like an Animated Movie I can think of.
Anyway once they brought it up - I thought yeah that is a good point and it was a it selfish/sexist of them to structure it like that.
Marvel you need to do more good female Characters from now on - not just for the woman viewers to connect too - but simple because 1) it's the 21st Century not the 1950's any more and so 50's sexism deliberate of otherwise isn't really appreciated.
Lets be Honest Hope played right could be another Princess Leia - and even more so in a few more years if it's ever time to see Scott's Daughter as Ant Girl.

1. Black Widow
2. Maria Hill
3. Scarlet Witch
4. Peggy Carter
5. Pepper Potts
6. Jane Foster
7. Lady Sif
8. Betty Ross
9. Sharon Carter
10. Gamora
11. Nebula
12. Skye/Daisy
13. Agent Mae
14. Gemma Simmons
15. Ms. Marvel
I know there are a few more, but these are some pretty stand-out awesome chicks in movies. Most of them have been shown to be able to take care of themselves, with only a few examples of a classic "damsel in distress" trope at play.

Also isn't it a bit cliché to say that they should admire her sacrifice as that is a trope in of itself. It actually let's hank and hope behave like humans and be a little selfish.

Re: Marvel Movies

Just a different point of view - that instead of them being "Just" mad at them leaving them they could have at least put a small entisis on her heroism & sacrifice as it did tie into both Scott & Hope's story arcs but they just didn't really go there I felt. a few added story beats to that effect would have helped and also helped the mid-credit scene work better too.
I'm not disappointed with what we got - I like Ant Man more than most, but I can see that it is a legitimate point that Marvel is a tiny bit sexist - though less sexist than DC obviously.
I can't comment on the TV shows as I don't watch them, I would say I will give a Neutral pass to Sif.
I do think there is some chance that it is at least worth considering that Woman could be used more effectively in Movies.
I've always likes the ladies in Sci Fi not just the obvious ones like Ripley but I can say in all honesty I really liked Scarlett in Gi Joe too. But perhaps the Baroness is a better example of someone who can drive a plot an isn't just a hanger on but even her in the Gi Joe Movie was tacked on to some shoehorned on Romantic plot.
I think we might need She Hulk some time too in the MCU - But I don't think they want to got there... I'm sure they could even make a She Hulk TV show as a rival to the Supergirl TV show if there was the will to do so.
which I suspect there isn't.
--------
As for a Comic Book Female I enjoyed lots in Live Action it would be Zed in (the sadly cancelled) Constantine TV show.

Re: Marvel Movies

I might even watch Jessica Jones if they go crazy dark with the Purple Man's level of perverted evil (which I would wonder if even Netflix has the balls to go that dark - I still don't know how the comic gets away with a middle aged man who kidnaps college girls (or younger) and uses them as sex toys without even a sniff of complaint - in a way that disturbs me that people are not more bothered by him than they are. to me he's much worse than the Joker - the Jokers is at least both legitimately insane and can be considered in some ways a "Force of nature".
Anyway I digress if they use some of the Hell Kitchen B listers I like in the show I may even watch it - I inherited a lot of late 70's & early 80's comics with those sorts of characters in so I've always had an attachment to them. Though I still not sure what I think about the "New girl" being made lead over them - I suppose it's just one of those things like Dazzler or Cloak & Dagger you just have to roll with it.

Two vastly different shows. Supergirl sits in its own little universe which may cross over with Flash/Arrow whereas Jessica Jones is part of the Netflix MCU which is an off-shoot of the greater MCU.
In short, Supergirl contained series, Jessica Jones part of a bigger jigsaw.
Plus I doubt Marvel consider what DC are doing with their movies and TV shows as competition these days anyway. DC just doesn't get it.

The Supergirl pilot leaked a couple of months ago, it wasn't too bad.
Jessica Jones could be great, it could be terrible. I'm working on half decent based on what they did with Daredevil.
