Funny story, the creator of Man From UNCLE was friends with Ian Fleming, and when he saw the iconic pic of Sean Connery holding the Walther P98 he decided to use it in his new show; with some changes.

At the risk of getting off topic Megatron+Hitler is one of the villain teamups that actually would work (for a given value of "would work"). After all, Megatron can turn into a PPK and has access to methods of time travel, he totally could have been there in the bunker.

At the risk of staying on topic I should have MP-36 arriving by the end of the week. For all who own him or who have just been following the various warnings more effectively than I, what are the do's, the don'ts and oh-my-god-please-don't-why-would-you-even-think-about-that's?

* Loosen the the screw on his lower back a lil bit. Under all the black panels. (There was a pic somewhere..)

* Sand down the edge of the pin that scratches the shoulder.

* If the barrel can't travel on the grey plastic arm (first step) you'll need to sand down or shave those teeth till it works. (Take off a little every time and check.)

* If the silencer doesn't attach and detach as easily and freely as in this video then sand the inside of the silencer and the inside black plug like in Logan and Jarrod's pix.

You don't actually have to unscrew and split open the silencer, you can take a nail-file to the plug and sandpaper to the end of the silencer; but I hear it's easier if you open.

If a step isn't clear in one of of the videos just switch to another. Or if you want to double/triple check something, like a really stiff joint you're unsure about.

I also think the sanding of parts will prove to be nothing more than a delaying tactic. Takara made a bad choice with the paint. It WILL scratch and chip, if not now than later.

He is surprisingly forgiving except the paint. I even knocked him off an end table, freaked out because I thought he was fragile, only to find no damage. I've transformed him a couple times with no issues despite the few times I thought I was using excessive force.

I ordered from BBTS because a day without using excessive force trying to remove an orange bung from a delicate, expensive figure is like a day without sunshine.

On the other paw, MP-11 is being re-released right now, should run about $140 from US-based online import specialist shops, and is a known quantity in terms of quality control issues and the like. Plus, MP-11 comes with the coronation gear too for added display options and fun.

What we need is a Masterpiece Galvatron. In his accessories we'd have to have a crushed Starscream crown, and a pile of grey dust. Take that all with MP-11, and we can act out the best movie scene of all time... well, second to Unicron's transformation of course.

I get that, but what I'm saying is that it is a completely unnecessary step to take. This is a very sturdy figure. All the release fears were based on one or two accounts, that were later self admitted to being a result of user error.

I might concede the point on the suppressor, but even that is still really a paint issue. Mine left marks, but that may have been due more to remaining plug glue residue on the inside of Megs' barrel. The suppressor itself slid right on and off, no issues.

Who said I'm not enjoying this figure? I made these small alterations and now everything's fine. I didn't even complain about it.

As for the silencer, I'm glad yours worked right out of the box. Mine didn't. And I fixed it. How is that any different than taking a knife to the barrel arm?
Even if I were to do it only to protect the paint what's the problem?

I appreciate that you didn't want the figure, but I've been waiting for it for a couple years, and if these little alterations can help preserve the figure a little longer then I'm happy to do them.

When mine was shipped I had prepared a little folder with links to possible issues in case I needed it; and now I'm passing it forward -- and only because someone asked.

MP-36 is more enjoyable now. Before, I couldn't even perform the first transformation step.

Alright, spent my first afternoon and first transform back-and-forth with this guy.

The transformation: I can see where people had difficulties and even breakages with this, and I'm glad that I had warning signs for what to look for. At the risk of stirring up Tumblr content, it's tough to get Megatron to keep his legs together.

I wasn't too concerned about paint chips. Orange streaks on Rodimus' sexy yellow bumper are one thing, black or gray chips on other gray is appropriate for the grizzled, old-because-he's-hard Megs. As such I slammed the silencer home without modifications and ended up with a few perfectly satisfactory battle scars.

The bungs: Nothing that about 10 minutes with my tool box to remove the two bungs and then about an hour with manicure tools to get out most of the orange-glue hybrid crap didn't fail to fix. There's a huge blob of cracked glue (at least I hope it's glue and not plastic) at the bottom of his barrel, but you gotta be doing gynecological coursework to see it.

The greebles and stuff: I love all the junk that comes with this guy. Mace with articulated chain for poses, and regular chain for awkward dangling? Great. Die-cast Key to Vector Sigma with a pleasant weight? Smashing. The fact that the blade of the light saber doubles as a shooting effect for the pistol is simple genius, as is the stock doubling as a flight stand. Prime Problem helmet? Great, now I've got to buy a second Optimus. Battle damaged face and chest? Great, now I've got to buy a second Megatron and whack everything but the face and chest with a hammer. "Urrrrrrgh" face and "Raaaarrrrrgh" face? Baller. Silencer-scope-stock field artillery combo? Nicely executed. Kremzee...wait, no Kremzeek? Well then what's the point?

The actual figure itself: I had The Fear, and I'm glad I had The Fear as it gave me the caution I needed. Fear aside, this could be comfortably mistaken for a non-transforming figure, as long as you block out some panel lines and don't look too hard at his back or bumflaps. He's very charismatic and looks like he just stepped out of the cartoon. His gun mode is a bit more panel-y than I'd like and you can't look through the scope any more unless I'm missing something, but the silencer and stock give a sense of power and push it just over MP-5's more robust gun mode. The selection of accessories is great, and while there's a lot of one-episode stuff I'd have liked to have seen (Heart of Cybertron? Pearl of Bahoudin? Cosmic rust asteroid chunk?) it doesn't feel like anything's missing. The price is a little hard to swallow, but it's hard not to attribute that at least partly to 3rd party not-Megatrons salting the market a touch.

All in all, a very much recommended figure (if you can still find it) if you don't care about paint chips.

Yes, you can adjust where the barrel sits on the back in robot mode, though I don't think you can get it perfectly centered (right behind Megatron's head). It will always be behind his right shoulder, but it can sit a little more lateral or medial depending on your preference.

The's my only gripe with MP-36 as it does not include accessories that homages the original gun and sword that came with the G1 release.
