i've done some researching on which one to get. I'm leaning on the 20th cause it's so much cheaper. I know their are two versions one on 20th aniv of transformers and 20th aniv of the 1986 movie. Difference being gun color are all I know. Are their any other differences in size also between that and the takara masterpiece are there any differences?
thanks
I'm making one other post i'd like anyone to comment one. thanks.

1.Hasbro (1st version) short stacks, scorch marks aka battle damage

2.DVD Hasbro (2nd version) no chrome or battle damage + anime accurate(?) colors)

3.Takara MP-01 first edition (2004) expensive as heck! Long stacks, whisky/wine box in jet black. Misprint "More than Meets teh Eye"
Check his wrist video com, there's bumble B and Starscream.

4.Takara MP-01 2nd release (2007) almost the same (not sure with the wrist com though)

5.Takara MP-04 (Trailer w/o Roller) allegedly lots of QC issues. I am using the word allegedly because I don't own one.

Dont forget that you can swap the short stacks on 20th Anniv Prime for some aftermarket long stacks, although I cant get his arms apart to do it.

I have MP-4 (Perfect Convoy) and have no quality issues with him.

The masterpiece boxes look very nice but if you only care about the figure for the cheaper option.

@ Ravage XK, since you own one, I was wondering, let's make a test on who actually owns an MP-04, seems like other people in this site don't know the difference between a REAL Convoy and an imaginary one........ Just don't mention it if the wrist com stickers of MP-04 are the same with MP-01 and the MP-01 2nd release out loudly  .

Btw I didn't get the MP-04 because of the price and well I already own a Convoy, wouldn't know what to do with an extra Convoy anyway. It sucks that Takara ditched the Roller component.......I wonder what they were thinking anyway not including Roller.

@ samsworkshop 11, if possible try getting the Takara MP-01, even if it's the 2nd release or if you've got mad modding skills get the independent long stacks and find yourself the chromed, battle damaged Hasbro version.

I'd just get the 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime just because it is cheaper. :-? I have the 20th Anniversary version, and the package is also pretty unique imo.

the box on Masterpiece is sweet. but I do prefer the packaging on 20th for display of the figure (if I dont' open it yet) So the battle damage one is the 2004 version with grey/black gun or blue? and Anime acurate? does the 2006 20th aniv sculp and colors look better?
i'm leaning on the battle damage as well and def will buy the aftermarket stacks their only 5.99 on ebay.

I had a similar inquiry a little while ago(I suggest checking the thread out, it has a lot of great info from fellow Seibertron members with a lot of knowledge about the different MP OP versions.:) )

I recently purchased a 20th Anniversary DVD version of the MP OP figure because I really do like the more cartoony looking colour palette(though it's not necessarily G1 cartoon accurate). I purchased the normal length chromed smokestacks kit off of eBay for $6 shipped so it'll be a nice mini mod. However, seeing as chrome isn't applied to the other parts of the DVD OP, they may stand out a bit but I don't mind. I'm not too thrilled about the blue gun but it's a cool mold and I can always repaint it black easily.

I plan on getting at least one other version of the figure in the future. I have the MP-01B pre-ordered but I may cancel and go to another store because the one I pre-ordered is an early release that will not include the eHobby manga.

As far as I remember when I was researching this the 20th Anniversary version has the correct gun colour whereas the original does not. The 20th Anniversary DVD Edition is orange instead of red. So go with the 20th Anniversary WITHOUT DVD.

The DVD version also has lack of silver paint apps in areas such as in and around the wheel wells and also uses silver paint instead of chrome:

20th Anniversary Edition w/DVD

as opposed to

20th Anniversary Edition w/out DVD

The orange-red of the DVD version reminds me so much of seeing G1 OP on an old TV in all his faded, washed out glory when I was a kid. I may be one of the few who bought the DVD edition because I like the aesthetics of the cheapy/cartoony look. 8-}

I never knew it was that orange either if it weren't for the comparison pics. I like Campbell's soup, but not the tomato soup though.

wow. awesome comparison. like How can you pass up on the without dvd version/ with all the detail! but totally understand the "Campbells Soup" palete. Will make this tough!
by the way according to the boxed info i've read their is no difference in size in height from the 20th and MP Primes excluding MP-04 with trailer version.
Can anyone that owns both confirm this?

That is correct, other than the smokestack height. I would go with the MP-04 re-release w/ trailer that's due to hit in a month or so, myself.

I JUST READ THE CONVOTRON POSTED TOPIC! THANKS...

I actually laughed my ass off!

when Fenrir72 (no offense Fenrir72!) but him being classified as a "headmaster jr" posted in response to being told "to give head" stated

"As for me giving you head, well I'd rather do better stuff like getting myself an MP-04 rather than pretending to own one"
Fenrir that was funny then I saw your class n did a doubletake... unitentionally funny!

later TomBrowkow simple states ,
personally i enjoy my 20th anniversary prime, but if i had the extra cash, id get a mp prime as well : )

Sorry somewhat off topic but that was classic :P Great article and pics.

p.s. Super dumb question! i've gone through 7 pages with search "what is kibble" i've seen this mostly(maybe always used) negatively!
Now I'm leaning on the black gun/cullen voiced/ 20th ani with no dvd.
daammnitt. Cullen voice! now i have to double check. Stupid pros n cons! lol
thanks for all the post. I hope to have a little life on here with post time to time. so SOMEONE.. what is KIBBLE!?

It's odd, all this talk about battle damage. I've got two 20th anniversary editions, one in box and one not, and neither have battle damage. If they do, someone's going to have to point it out to me.

EDIT-I just looked at the photos above and can see it on that 20th pictured. I'll have to check mine because I've definitely never noticed that before.

Kibble has a range of meaning, though generally it means "parts that visually stick out in robot and vehicle modes, and that have no apparent usage". It's normally used with a negative connotation. You can find some more information at TFWiki's article on kibble.

I usually specify "robot kibble" or "vehicle kibble" when referring to kibble and for me, as long as kibble serves a purpose, it's not really even "kibble". For example, exhaust pipes or smoke stacks in vehicle mode that turn into weapon parts in robot mode don't count as "bad kibble" in my opinion. They are still obviously vehicle parts but they imply dual usage when in robot mode.

I think most people look at obtrusive kibble as bad kibble. "Shellformers" are prime examples of bad kibble.

Image

This is because often the shell parts of the alternate mode just hangs off of the robot mode and serves no real purpose.

Yes, its on his robot mode grill. I think that there is some dirt painted onto his upper legs also, check the gallery to find out.

I would like to add that kibble isn't always attached to the figure. G1 figures had lots of kibble that had to be stored elsewhere. OPs hands for example had to be removed for the truck mode and placed somewhere for safekeeping. Yes, kibble is bad whether it takes the form of a giant backpack or needs a box to keep it safe.

OPs hands for example had to be removed for the truck mode and placed somewhere for safekeeping. Yes, kibble is bad whether it takes the form of a giant backpack or needs a box to keep it safe.

I'd take the G1 kibble over some of the Beast Wars kibble anyday though. At least you can store the kibble in some ziplock bags while displaying them. The G1 seekers looks sweet. :P
