Its kind of like Basic Instinct, but not in a good way...
Goddammit, now I can't unsee it.

I believe a common complaint of the first film, and less so the second and third, was that the combination of rather complex character design and Michael Bay's rapid-fire editing technique left many critics confused as to the events unfolding onscreen. I am glad to hear, however, that this was not your experience.

Autobot032, old buddy, it seems that facts and common sense escape some folks when Michael Bay is mentioned.
HalfOfMe wrote:The simple truth is, before the movies Transformers was on a major decline. The toylines were struggling, the anime re-tellings garnered no ratings, and generally for good reason. Like them or not, the movie franchise saved Transformers. We would not have Prime, we probably would not have Generations, without Bay's films.

Autobot032 wrote:Michael Bay is driving a car. He's keeping it from crashing. It's hard to do that when the car is built by Orci, Kurtzman, Rogers and Kruger. They didn't give it brakes, or a steering wheel, so it's impossible for Bay to control the car. And before anyone says "Well, he shouldn't have driven the car to begin with." Well, like us, he was mislead. He was given a pat on the back and told "Enjoy!"
SlyTF1 wrote:Yeah, I know there was a lot of that in the first movie, but after watching it over a thousand times, I noticed exactly what was going on. I don't know why people still bitch about it in ROTF where there was no to minimal shaky cam. DOTM was perfect with the shaky cam thing though. The only time I noticed where I couldn't tell what the hell was going on was Bumblebee vs Soundwave.

Titanic, The Dark Knight, Order of the Phoenix... okay, TDK was more confusing and nonsensical than boring, but you get the idea.

I don't blame them for ROTF, I actually hold the deadline accountable. Obviously, with more time, better movies can be made. ROTF was bad plot-wise, but to a good many people it was still a fun movie to watch. I enjoy it occassionally. No matter what anyone says about Devastator in that movie, the hair on the back of my neck still stands up in anticipation as the vehicle forms merge...

First-Aid wrote:how do I hold the deadline responsible? Easy. It's obvious from the first and third movies that a half-decent movie can be written with sufficient time. ROTF had about 5 weeks to complete the movie script thanks to the writers strike. I think the Fallen idea could have been done much better....if they had time. Bay has said they were editing right up to the release date thanks to the time crunch. It comes down to the fact that they had a release date to make and had to make do with what they had. That's why i blame the deadline aka release date. If the date had been 6 months later, we would have seen considerable improvement in ROTF...a whole different movie. That's my theory anyways.

Did you think it was stupid when it was done in the G1 cartoon?
