I kinda figured that, I was just pointing out the irony.Autobot032 wrote:Nemesis Cyberplex wrote:You're like the 578,452.2nd person to point this out. THIS IS NOT G1.
It will not be G1, this is a complete reboot to the series and a brand new take on it.
Anywho, like all franchises, people want to see key parts of the mythology recreated. For Transformers, if you asked anybody what key plot point they remember from G1....it'd be stuff from the movie, such as Prime's death, & after that would probably be Unicron & Meg's upgrade to Galvy, followed shortly by the Quintessons. & I'd just about guarantee that every single thing I've mentioned will be seen in some shape or form before the movie franchise is over. Hell, one of the producers (Desanto?) already said they had an idea on how they could put the Dinobots & Devastator in the next one, & that character introduction followed very closely behind the introduction of G1 as a whole, so I really doubt they are plannig on straying too terribly far from the source of the 20+ year franchise.....to an extent it'd be like doing Spider-man's origin story in the first movie & from there leaving out every key villan in the Spider-man franchise to come up with their own. No thank you.
edit, BTW, I find it kinds funny that you used a variation the G2 slogan of "This isn't your father's Transformers" to make your point....especially since, aside from a few new ones, G2 was almost entirely made up of "your father's Transformers" with craptastic paint jobs, & the cartoon was "your father's Transformers cartoon" with some fancy(& annoying) CG screen transitions.
Actually, G2 had nothing to do with my using that term. Until you mentioned it, I had completely forgotten about it. (That's what happens when you sell off all 12 issues of that craptacular series. That and trying to forget it.)
Again, my post was not based on G2 at the time, so therefore you have no point on that issue.

Transformers Generation 2. It was the original G1 cartoon with some CG intros & a few CG transition screens thrown in. nothing to write home about.Sonray wrote:Wait, G2 had a cartoon? What was it called?

OOOOH, right i got one of those. Horrid things. By the way they had made it sound there was a whole different cartoon out there with G2 toy style characters in it.

According to GrendelKhan from Clantsu.org, Michael Bay told the press at the Koren Press Conference for the World Premier Pictures, that if Transformers 1, 2 and 3 are a succes, they would do a fourth and fifth movie as well!
Note that this is a fairly new source and therefor we have listed this as a rumor for now.
Click here for the original source.
WHAT UP?! seibertronians!
GrendelKhan{TSU} here... yup the guy who infilatrated the press conference as a reporter for UnrealAddicts.com Press (which I am.... just that our site isn't exactly recognized as an "official" publicatoin. lol) . Anyway, noticed ya picked up my ...er... story. :p so decided to pop over for a WHATUP?!?!
Also, its cool there is so much discussion about this... though I'll be honest I just skimmed though the thread so don't get on me if some stuff was covered already.

eitherway... I thought I drop some (almost) exclusive info and pics as well... cause this is the one of the only sites I'm posting on (other than mine.lol)
Few fun things:
Anyone see this?
Michael Bay's blog.
ROFL!! MICHEAL BAY JACKED MY PICS!! WOOT!
I'm honored!! lol.
LOL! When I saw that I HAD to post somewhere. I might have been pissed if I did'nt actually think it was pretty cool. Woot! ie: Naw, its not a big deal... I justed figure its a good excuse to just be absolutely clear.
So, for any those that "doubt" the validity of those being my pics and my report being off (there were many who did)... well ...
I've updated that original thread a lot and added ton more pics (original) from the conference HERE:
Transformers World Premier Press Conference in Seoul Korea - reported by GrendelKhan{TSU} - The Sniper Upstarts -UT Clan
AND added a Photo Gallery of the TF Korean Press conference which includes the pics I originally posted and more... which Micheal Bay obviously doesn't have on his blog ...and well.. how the hell would I get em?
(refresh the first post in the thread if you've seen already as I've updated it.
NOTE: it also contains the link to the FULL GALLERY of almost ALL my pics from the conference)
Also, if I took the pics from MB's blog (as I got accused of as well)... how'd I get this one? (unless that person thinks he's taking pics of himself while walking as well. :/)

last, just look at the TIMESTAMPS on the posts n00b!! how would I get pics BEFORE he posted them.
all that said... MAN, I gotta remember to watermark em next time!!!!! AHEM. :p @)$*@#)*!! doh! lol. (don't really care..but its still funny).
Yup, I'm a "new" source... but The Korea Times (major pub here) corroborated my "report" on its main points including the statement about sequels (and looking at times... was many many hours after I posted. heck, even Bay's blog if you look at the time is many hours after). you'll find a link to the article in the Korea times in my thread.
those that STILL doubt... well... then I write that up to YALL JUST JEALOUS!!

as for the nuances of his statements in the press conference: I will I agree with some comments here... in the interview Michael Bay DID talk about TR 4..5...6.. .but honestly, it wasn't said like he was signing anything or it carving it into stone ... just kinda in the mode/mood and in the context of pumping-up the crowd (to which I obliged him with my "HELL YA!" as reported)... he loves TF stuff now too so would love to or more not-be-against keep making em (in spirit). he's got yyyeeeeaarrss to NOT be held to that. heh.
I actually found it funny too to see so many places pick up on that and run with it as if he had already started production or something. lol.
I was going to get closer to the action for pics down below.....but I didn't know exactly when to go where...so I didn't want to risk moving and lose the "box seats" place I had since it was a such mob. I also didn't post some pics cause I don't want to get into TOOO much trouble (like me convincing TR marketing team in Korea who I was and that I was supposed to be there. lol).
I will say, even though he jacked my pics without even a linkback (GRR!) Bay seemed REALLY laid back and cool. Megan was a goddess so well... I got read on her other than, a sweet voice and wondering who got to the tattooes she got. And better yet, who gets to see "up close". heh. FX (effect works) team was super cool (including the guy who sculpted the Bumblebee robot). I told em how I got in and they were like "right on." lol. too bad they couldn't stay around longer ...or I woulda taken em out for a REAL night on the town.
Didn't see in any follow up reports... he also talked the history of him aquiring some company I forget in response to a question asked about the use of more actual models and physical effects rather than CGI.
anyway.. .glad everyone found my story entertaining.
Last...
Come by UNREAL ADDICTS/CLAN TSU FORUMS www.clantsu.org (aka www.UnrealAddicts.com ) sometime as well... TSU is an Unreal Tournament game focused site, but as you can see really just mostly just a bunch of goofs hanging out and talking about anything and everything (got a fun multimedia and mp3 downloads section etc

and ya gotz some die hard TR fans there as well (obviously. :p) Any gamers here? I can't imagine there aren't.
( yah yah,...shameless plug.. but I think I've earned that much for the scoop here... and AHEM*grumbleWATERMARKgrumble!!!*COUGH. LOL )
I will definitely come by again as I get more information from the front-lines here in korea.

OPTIMUS PRIME FTW!!!(and fook rodimus) haha.
and let there be no doubt... this movie is simply AWESOME!!! hope to heck he keeps making em till robots actually can invade the earth. :p

I'm waiting to see the film to make a final call, but as of right now I'd prefer this to be the only one made by this team. I'd rather not see my namesake, or Grimlock, or Arcee (see movie version for the ugliest Transformer ever made) get the Bay-former treatment.
I agree, though I generally tend to "enjoy" the Bay films I've seen which have only been Bad Boys I,II and a couple of others; I'd like for the next TF film to get into more TF plot since I can guess this one does not, more introduction/action to get the new fans "wet and interested". Maybe the next film can have more Cybertronian effects in it, "Grimlock, Arcee, Ultra Magnus

Soundwave, Cyclonus

More to do with Cyberton, perhaps introduce Alpha Trion - as the maker of Optimus and Megatron both, a history.
Someone should die in the 2nd film, but they should never kill Optimus or Megatron til they plan to end the series, maybe let Megs kill an Autobot.

I still cant believe yall have such high hopes on this movie being a cash cow...i really doubt the numbers will be as huge as some of yall think it will be....if the u.s. second week numbers are bad and nothing like the first....then you can kiss all your sequal dreams good bye...because that means the film will barely break even

no guarantees in movie biz for sure...
but if I was a betting man..which I am... I'd bet on this one going all the way to the bank. heh. its worth the hype. it was good.
plus, don't forget they make a killing on merchandising, DVD and spin-offs as well. the movie itself isn't always the only measure of a franchises success.

Then, we'll see.
Hell, we don't even know if Bay and Co. will still have a contract 3,4,5 years down the line.
All will be told July 4th, let's just leave it at that.
Well, Bay isn't officially inked for the sequel, though he does have an option to do so. From the way it's been described, sounds like a "right of first refusal" clause. As has been mentioned a few times before, he's linked to Disney's Prince of Persia, but who knows if that's 100% legit or a leveraging ploy if the first film makes a ton of money?
But, agreed. The first film'll tell the story of what follows. In a potential franchise, it's never a bad idea to look to the future, and let the sequels grow organically(forced sequels can just be painful). But, at the same time, their focus is on the performance of the first movie.
Though, if Transformers rakes it in, I'm willing to bet that not only will we see sequels off and running, but a whole bunch of 80's properties(G.I. Joe, Thundercats, Voltron, etc.) will start moving at light speed.

and given the early numbers, wonder if we should give this more credence?

I agree it'll get stupid really quick. at 4th.
Unless they plan it to not be numbered sequels.
TF Trilogy 2 would be directed by spielberg hopefully.
I'd rather have plot in another trilogy, then just things exploding randomly.

It's a little too early to tell if this is a good move or not. Let's just see if the 2nd flick is any good. Although I'd find it kind of hard for them to keep coming up with new plotlines. I mean, 2nd movie: more decepticons and autobots arrive and the war becomes bigger, also star scream becomes leader; 3rd movie: unicron. I dunno where they would go after that unless if Bay wants to remake Beast Wars.
