Buttz wrote:I agree with Hot Rod. I read an article (in WIRED I think) that describes Bay as "more of a jock than a geek." I thought that was a perfect analogy. Here we have someone who embodies the "showbiz" aspect of filmmaking and has an utter disregard, perhaps even contempt, for the artistic potential of the medium. The directors mentioned above all have one thing in common, and that is a maniacal passion for making movies; you know they'd still be doing it even if there was no money involved. With Bay it is clear that this is not the case.

Yes thats the exact reason that Bay cut his cost by 30% in order to work with his crew that he has worked with for years and not just leave them high and dry while he goes to canada with a whole new crew. Yeppers Bay is in just for the money, you hit the nail on the head with that one.

Bay is one of the most talented blockbuster directors out there, he has the best eye in Hollywood just about, and that's not my opinion that's Speilbergs.

Next to NO ONE could have made TF as cool as he has. Other directors would have botched it up royally.

I am fed up with the criticism Bay gets, the guy can never catch a break with some people, he has brought the franchise into the mainstream and guaranteed it probably a decade of success, but these small minded fanatics on here just don't see the big picture.

He is the only man to do the sequel, I get so sick of these snobs saying 'oh can we get so and so to direct the sequel' - Get out of here with that talk. I don't want Spielberg's war of the world's shite, I don't want Ang Lee and his shite Hulk film, I don't want some arty farty director who has no idea how to do action, I want Bay to knock it out of the park, just like he did this one. Bring it!:)

One thing everyone always seems to forget. Every company and distributor that transformers was brought to passed on it. They said NO. So what makes you think any other directors wouldn't feel the same way. Even Bay said no the first time. NO one, I repeat NO one wanted this project to go anywhere.

Star Wars didn't have any easier time getting picked up. And based on what Don Murphy said, everybody passed initially and then called back the next week.

Any good action director, seeing how well TF is being received, would jump at the chance to direct now that Bay has proven it can work. That's why Bay won't give it up. He may not direct it, but he's not going to be far away from TF for sometime. And that's fine; Bay's a competent, albeit over-the-top, director.

For the record, while there are some directorial things I would like to see differently (screaming chick in the blue dress), they don't make or break the movie for me. It's the script.

The fact that he needs to pat himself on the back for getting paid 70% of a truckload of money instead of 100% of a truckload of money speaks volumes.

As a fan of Transformers since '85 and have seen the G1 cartoons as well as Japanese anime series like the Headmasters, and later Beast Wars, RID, Cybertron, etc., I thought the movie did a terrific job fleshing out the characters while giving us kickass action, while appealing to mass audience. I'm not a Michael Bay fan, and I only think a few of his movies were good (didn't like Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, The Island, Bad Boys 2). However, I thought Bay did terrific job with this movie, although I dislike how he named Rumble "Davastator".

I know there are G1 purists who wanted the movie to be exactly like the cartoon series, and also those who wanted this movie to become a serious movie with extensive character development, but let's face it: it's still a movie about giant robots who transform, and there is no way to get rid of characters like Sam and just have Transformers dominate every frame. Were there plot holes? Yes. Is it perfect? No. But considering the subject matter and a movie based on a toy collection, and that it has to appeal to non-fans and critics alike, this movie delivered in spades.

I just hope the sequel (which is all but inevitable now), will give us new TFs like trichangers and gestalts; Transformers that you haven't seen in the first movie. I want Bay to kick it up a notch, and eliminate some of the problems from the first movie, and it'd be golden. With the ending of trilogy of Spider-man, Pirates, and X-Men, Transformers can become the next great trilogy of films, if they do it right.

Btw, I want the next movie to be a Empire Strikes Back-esque type of sequel, with Decepticon claiming victory. I don't like how Autobots only suffered 1 casualty, while Decepticons lost pretty much everyone. It shouldn't be so one-sided in this war of attrition.

I think it's the poop. There is no way that a cartoon aimed at young boys can be successfully adapted into a live action motion picture 20 years later without making some substantial changes. Anyone who expected a carbon copy of the cartoon is pretty delusional. This movie is just bad filmmaking.

That's exactly what I'm saying. I think we're in agreement over this point.
