I was just thinking about the Classics Mirage mold, I'm amazed at how Hasbro was able to squeeze both Dragstrip and Fracture out of it, and get three genuinely unique characters (not to count the Henkei or Electro Distruptor versions).

What other molds have been that versatile? I'd lean on the the Cybertron Red Alert mold but Crankcase wasn't very memorable, and Kup required a remold, leaving only Cannonball (who is awesome).

Who else do you have?

Crankcase was very much remembered by me. I <3 him.

Can't really beat Mirage, but I didn't expect Dion from Hotshot.

I really dig Universe Silverbolt and Darkwing, and the 3rd repaint (Skyfall?) was pretty nice too, I just didn't like it enough to pick it up for a third time.

It is hard to beat the Mirage Mold. That thing really is great.

I liked what they did with the Downshift mold-turning it into Big Daddy. That was really good, but I don't know if there's anything left for that mold after that.

I wasn't expecting Thrust from the Breakaway mold. That turned out better than Breakaway, IMO.

Armorhide is a really good use of the Landmine mold that I really never expected.

Leo Breaker. I can not understate how the 5 uses of this mold are each so unique to their characters it's mind boggling. Vector Prime is the same. Between the regular, golden, Alpha Trion and "Last Autobot" figures are all amazing in different ways. That and I use the 4 different VP Planet Keys in the Omega Lock  !

Or Big Daddy's gang molded partner - Greaser.

The Silverbolt, Darkwind, and Skyfall set are exactly the kind of amazingly creative uses that I'm talking about!

I think of the Cybertron Sideways mold which saw a re-use as Ratbat, which was an awesome take on the mold. It of course saw release as scourge and the Sweeps too at botcon.

And let's not forget the ultra rare Mass Production Model repaint, but that was featured in the cartoons so I don't know how unconventional it was.

Cybertron Evac made for a nice looking Blades and an acceptable Springer. Although never actually made into a toy TFCC used the mold in their Shattered Glass comic for Galvatron, and it actually looked pretty cool, on paper anyway.

What about henkie/classic Optimus Prime mold? I mean we got Prime out of it, Ultra magnus and Nemsis Prime and i think his mold is pretty versatile. Actually i would like to see Motor Master done in that mold, just not sure if it has been done yet and it would be awesome to the Classic Prime mold done as Hotspot/Hotzone colors and Fansproject do a ladder trailer for him and the trailer would be a repair bay just like the G1 Hotspot!! WOW! gotta love the imagination!!!

Using a Prime mold to make Magnus or Nemesis Prime is such a no-brainer that it can't be considered unconventional.

Using Cybertron Sideways to make Ratbat and Scourge (and his Sweeps), now that's unconventional.

I think Cybertron Sideways was under-rated until it saw stardom with Botcon. The alternate mode was funky and the robot mode is kinda short. Ratbat was a fantastic repaint, the colours were great. However it wasn't even mass retail, it was an exclusive and a two-pack. Noisemaze was too rare for everyone to have, so no one could get a feel of the figure. Then Botcon rolled in, and wow - Scourge and the Sweeps were pretty dynamic.

So other than the original Sideways, its never been available for everyone.

Speaking of the Silverbolt/Darkwing mold, I saw a great photoshop once of it repainted as Brainstorm. Looked surprisingly good and would love to see it actually released.

On the subject of Mirage, I only wish the Robotmasters mold got the same treatment. Would love to see it repainted as Dragstrip, Fracture and the always forgotten G2 Double Clutch.

The Clocker mold had a few nice repaints. The original colours were naff but Cybertron swerve really had a G2 comic Hot Rod vibe to it. Keep meaning to pick up the blue Movie version. It's reuse as Pre-Beast Tigatron and Cheetor was nice. It was the basis for the Maximal security forces in the Stolen Disc vid.

I did buy a custom repaint as Hot Rod a while back that really worked and I once saw it customised as War Within Sunstreaker that looked nice.

Does the Defence Hot Shot mold count? We've gotten 2 Wreckers out of it and Roadbuster was certainly unexpected. Would love to see it repainted as Ruckus.

Another possibly unconventional suggestion I'd like to make is that I always felt Energon Slugslinger and Sharkticon would make a cool Movie Cyclonus and Scourge.
