Always read the instructions. Thats what i do with all my new TF's in order to avoid breakage. They are only plastic afterall.

I manually triggered the hood move by using a small screwdriver on the lower tab to push it in. Then with the hood triggered, I took my knife and cut off a small segment, between the spaces. This leaves enough room for BB to function properly.

My BB now works!

Jimi mine was Ok before , I tryied your way , and it went from Ok to much better Spread the word. It works lol!!!

However I cut a piece of the part where the tab sits on, works the same and keeps the tab at the same strenght.

I've added one more picture for reference. This is just to trigger the hood, you definitely don't want to force the hood open any other way if the hood button isn't working.

So then if the bigger portion is NOT the problem, why are there versions where both sides are the small tab??

BTW I counted 24 BB's at my TRU this afternoon and 23/24 were the ones with the big tab on the drivers side. I bought the the only one with the two little tabs. Are you saying that can break also?

I *think* that the 'big tab' indicates too much plastic was poured, resulting in the thicker problematic tab down below. The little tabs should be fine.

Thanks jimi for the walk-thru...I've had my hands on 22 BB's and all of them have been the big tab versions. Now I may just chance it.

I haven't been able to find one that didn't have the big tab. I think it's pretty likely that those with the small tab could break if the lower tab that I modified was too long.

Hmmm...Okay, I was able to transform him back and forth and for good measure triggered the hood 5 or 6 times. It looks like the two small tabs are safe. Unless like you said it just so happens the tab you modified happens to be smaller on mine simply out of luck. I mean some of the guys with the two different size tabs aren't breaking, right?

From what I've read, there are certainly tons of people with a 'fat tab' Bumblebee who haven't had any problems with it, and nobody with the small (symmetrical) version has reported issues (to my knowledge).

I'm still going to go on my assumption that the fat tab is indicative of too much plastic poured, or a faulty calibration in the mold pressing.

That makes sense Asderiphel. I held off buying one till I saw the smaller tabs. I was beginning to think it was gonna take more than two days. I guess to anyone leary of this whole business the best bet is wait till you can find the revised version instead of risking it. Though it looks like jimi's mod is a good solution as well.

I have just cutted a piece of the tap inside BB ... and ... well ... the button seems to work now, but maybe i cutted a little to much of him, cause now hes hood keeps triggering

But i think i wanna keep him and get the next version of Bumblebee, hes still kinda kool in robot mode

But well when i opened him the automorph button only worked one time truth ... then i had to use a knife for the transformation

But now the hood is **** up, but i see that the button work. Maybe i can attach some extra plastic to him in the future to hold hes hood down. Who know's, just think i wanna keep him to see what Hasbro made me do!

I just ordered one off of play.com, so now i know what to look out for and be careful when i transform it. If i get the fat tab and the hood gets jammed i at least know of a way to modify it to fix it. Thanks for those pics!

Lol what I did was push it all the way up, I have no problems what so ever!

I know it's a couple of months old, but this post bugged me.

First of all, these things are supposed to be toys, not just collector's items. It seems silly to me that they would be "intricate and fragile* when they are supposed to be enjoyed by children. In my opinion, they should be designed to handle a little abuse and be relatively simple.

There sure seem to be alot of defects, missasemblies and such that Hasbro never seems to answer for.

I just think some of it has had a bad night shipping honestly. Because all my Movie Toys are fine

STILL, now a month later the only BB's I see are the large tab ones. I wonder where the revision is hiding???

It works fine, but i really had to apply extra pressure on the automorph button to release the hood of my bee. Do you suggest i try the suggestion here of slicing a piece of that problematic longer tab underneath bee or must i wait for bee to malfunction before i slice it?

btw that's exactly what you can do to fix the problem but dont slice the the tab that lock the hood nono! just slice the circular loop of the hodd so that the tab will lock it more with ease...

I finaly found a version with two skinny tabs. It took awhile! Most of what I saw in stores were the big tabs.

I also ordered a Japanese version because of the clear windows. It looks so much better than the painted Hasbro release. Unfortunately, it has the fat tabs. I have transformed it a few times without problems, so maybe it will be ok.

oh! tnx softimus. i just got more confused now. i was looking at the previous pics about how to slice bbee and i thought i was to slice the longer tab... groan. good thing i haven't performed the operation yet.

about this circular loop, is that the same area of the "fat tab"? the bottom part of it? and not that longer tab that locks the hood?

hmm... maybe i'll put off bumblebee's operation for later till i hear from you guys. thanks!!!

What fixed mine was cutting the tab that's spring loaded on the figure, not whether the round plastic was fat or thin.
