I think he looks great.. and I think if he had a re-sculpted head.. no one would be bitching.. but he doesn't have a re-sculpted head.. so that means he's a repaint.. which apparently are the new way that hasbro is sticking it to the fans. at least that's how it seems from most posts lately
I have no problem with repaints. And I think he's a great looking figure.

I asked the seller for confirmation, and he says the instructions call the Mini-Con partner for Inferno "Longarm".

But I'm curious as to how many people truly were saying they wanted a repaint of Soundwave as Blaster. I mean, you're talkin' people here on the forums, right?
Even if that was 300 people, in the grand scheme...
And lately it seems most have a dislike for it.
Wouldn't you think that at that time all of the hype was because people wanted a Blaster, and a repaint was probably the most realistic option?
And damn, in alt mode he has such a strong primary color scheme, which to me shouts pajamas for a 2 yr. old bought by grandma.
Or as Bumblethumper said, "clown colors".
Wait Wait Wait...
Let's review:
Grey legs with black spot (speaker) on them?
-Check
Red torso with yellow storage compartment?
-Check...er, mostly. Depends what angle you look from...
Red Arms?
-Check
Red Head?
-Check
So the character/toy is mostly Red, Black, Grey, and some yellow...
That amounts to the most frightening clown colors ever.
The "Clown Colors" argument is garbage...
Face it, if the head were resculpted even slightly, this guy would be dead on.
While you're literal analysis is right, there's still a strong primary color scheme.
That yellow chest, while one part, is bright enough and actually is as visually strong as all of the gray, and probably the black too. Not to mention it's location is a prime focal point.
Yeah, there are a lot of black and gray parts, but they don't stand out any more than the reds or yellow.
For whatever reason, you didn't mention the blue parts.
Even though those are areas on the weapons, if you ever have them on the figure,
you can't deny seeing those 3 primary colors.
"Dead on"? For a winged Blaster, maybe. Like you said, even the torso isn't all red.
I know, I know, it's a repaint.
But that's part of the point... This character deserved a new mold.

Your point being?..

Exactly,.. those are the weapons, not the figure. The fact that the weapons have blue in them is a minor issue not even worth debating. Hell, via the stickers, another minor issue, the original Blaster had blue on him.

It is a repaint. It IS a winged Blaster. Whatever name happens to fall on the box is really irrelevant. Classics, Universe, whatever. The point is that this was one of those figures people were clamoring for when it was initially released as Soundwave. Now, whether or not you were collecting at that point and remember this fact would probably benefit the discussion.
The main two issues regarding the toy remain true, whether you like the design or not; people wanted this repaint and it will sell well.

I will buy it, but I admit, it would have been nicer if they did a bit less black in the color scheme and a new head mold and a new partner, but I realize it would have raised the cost of the toy (see picture below for a custom). Still, not a bad toy. I'd also by the Legends size repaint.

My objection isn't the colours. It's the choice of an alt mode inconsistant with a pre-established colour scheme.
It's a Stealth Bomber. STEALTH!.
The point is it looks like crap.

Why is BLACK any more stealthy than red in a blue sky? I'd assume CYBERTRONIAN stealth tech would render it invisible, no matter the color. right?

Realy it would have been an awesome figure with a nice transformation but the just slapped the cabs of the alt on the arms.
It makes the figure very awkward, and the bright yellow![]()
But hey, to each their own.
I'm just hoping Universe Blaster is a record breaking shelf warmer that will send a message to Hasblow.
Or, he might just be unbelievably hard to find after a surge in popularity with the new line.
Then some guy at Hasbro would see it and say “Hi guys! Lets just quit making new toys and make repaints instead!”
Guy two: “Awesome idea! You get a raise! Now lets go torture some fans!”

If you're going to assume that, first, it paves the way for all manner of goofy alt modes, and second, then what's even the point of transformation as a disguise?

Who says it's a disguise? He used his "boom box" disguise once (at Club Con in the Marvel comics), so now that the Decepticons know it, it really wouldn't work again, so his G1 form is sorta useless. I'm guessing a jet flies faster and is more useful in a fight or for high altitude recon and communications than a crappy radio.

Whether I was collecting at the time of Cybertron Soundwave doesn't really matter.
Again, I'll ask (in making a realistic estimate), how many people were clamoring for a Blaster repaint??
AND, if this was before the actual Classics were released, then
I don't care if this "clamoring" is the result of a survey of 500 people including a good percentage of "regular consumers/non-self-proclaimed fans".
Not to mention, most of what I've read from the get-go in favor of this figure is not highly enthusiastic.
Where's all the love for this guy now?
Surely if this was such a great decision, that huge population of those in favor would be rising up in some sort of praise or celebration.
CP, I'll just ask you straight-up.
Do you feel this is the best option for a "new" Blaster figure?
Even with his original alt mode being very outdated,
this is the limit of potential of a figure for this character?

Re: Movie Inferno, Mudflap and Universe Blaster on ebay
I have to say that this paint job for Blaster is not that bad. The few small problems I have with the Universe toys more center the colors of Powerglide and Dropshot not even being close to their G1 counterparts.

... which raises an interesting question. Hasbro claimed the reason for altering Powerglide's colour-scheme was because they're committed to more realistic alt modes. Anyone remember them saying something like that?
And yet ...Blaster.
Why do I get the sneaking suspicion they're just going with the new Powerglide colours for now, so they can repaint it somewhere down the line and sell it twice to over-eager collectors.

Well, considering that the original Cybertron Soundwave mold was blue and they added BLACK to it, it's closer to the correct colors for a F-117 Nighthawk than before.

I think Takara will probably released a Henkai Powerglide in proper G1 colors.

Let's not forget the Legends redeco of the mold. Although no name was announced, I'm guessing Air Raid, as it mixes his G1 and G2 color schemes. He's even closer to "real life" colors than Blaster.

I'm just gonna say, as I've said, in the future I want better. However, I know that we arent going to get it.
This Blaster is the start of any and every SoundWave figure getting a coat of paint and becoming Blaster.
As long as there are idiots out there who will prove CounterPunches basic observations correct, Hasbro will have no need to feel like they ever have to do better.
Unhappy as I am, I'm glad I'm not alone in seeing it.
Hell, they can package a dog turd in the same colors, call it Blaster, and note that this new automorph feature will cause it to turn white in 3 days if left in the sun...
Now folks with common sence will avoid that, but there's still to many people that will take whatever they're given with a thankful smile who'll post "the Fly minions that swarm it are a great effect"

I want this figure to fail, cause I want better in the future, but if experience has shown anything, it's that if it has the name and colors, enough easily pleased people will buy it, and Hasbro will get lazier on a bed of money thinking of who else can be renamed what as apose to what can they do next.
I know you won't, but take a stand, avoid this figure, and send them a message that you want and deserve better.
If you don't it's only gonna get worse.

Stealth planes are as visible as any other to the naked eye, they are painted matte black because that paint has some radar obsorbing qualities and because their MO is night operations.

It is possible that if this figure sells well they will reintroduce Blaster as his own mold. Dunno how likely it is but it would be good.
Hey, I'm actually hoping Animated Soundwave gets a retool as Blaster. All you'd need was a new head and you'd be set.

ahhh... blaster is okay i guess. i would likely buy it, but in my heart i do wish that they would release a boom box version of him... or at least a version of him with thicker legs. huge upper body with such thin legs makes it look like he spends all day sitting down lifting weights, leading to under strength legs and oversized arms.
i see where all of you are coming from, just calm down
we're all just passionate fans after all
il prolly get a battered G1 blaster from ebay and try to kitbash the head on to the new blaster
