Even if it sells well, I wouldn't count on a new Blaster afterwards.
In fact, if it sells well, I could see Hasbro thinking,
"See, that's all we needed to do for a Blaster figure... Which repaints do we release next?".

I think we do deserve better...
And it's not exactly that Hasbro "owes" us. I think that's different.

It's interesting to me that it still doesn't seem like anyone is really that excited about this figure, after "so many" were wanting it.
So many "I'll most likely buy it" reactions, rather than responses like, "Must have", "I'll get two of them", "Looks like it'll be my favorite Universe Classics figure".

Amen, and exactly what I've been getting at!

But who knows, maybe an orange Animated Scion XB, will provide a change when they do this again.

That's why I'm saying, don't buy it!

Granted Hasbro has people monitoring the net, but in the end, the dollar is our biggest voice. I also know the constant argument is that these items are produced for kids, but what friggin kid would even care about a figure from 25 years ago!?!

This is prof that the collector dollar is a factor in all this, and I'd like to see it push for better, as apose to a new trend in already tired repaints.

Well, really and unfortunately, the fact that kids wouldn't recognize the original Blaster is what may help this thing sell.
Kids don't know whether this is a good representation of that character or not.

Part of what I think goes against this figure is that I don't find the alt. mode as even remotely good.
Now, I don't have this mold, but really, unless it has some really cool features that aren't visible,
I get the idea of it from photos.
It just doesn't look very impressive to me.

NO way is this worth $20+ of my money.

I think the Black & Gold SoundBlaster version is the only one worth buying, this molds bot mode is stiff and unbalanced.

While I agree with what Liege is saying, I can't help but think that boycotting Universe Blaster will have little to no effect. We have so much back and forth in the fandom about this kind of thing: if toys are good and sell out it's a shame becuase they're for the kids, if toys stink we holler because they are denying us as adult collectors. That being said, I still agree with Liege, that Blaster is about to get the Ultra Magnus treatment for the forseeable future, and this is a junky mold in my opinion to begin with. Rest assured Liege, I'm not going to buy one. :D

You're basing this on one instance... It's like the person who said that "does every Rodimus figure have to have a black repaint?" It's only happened twice for american releases.. and they were both exclusives. Out of all the soundwave figures over the years we've gotten one Blaster repaint. It's not an epidemic.

I'm not basing this on anything, to be honest. I don't like Blaster enough to get too worked up about this, and I know it's the first instance of this Blaster/Soundwave thing. I'm just saying that concievably this could be the start of every Soundwave becoming Blaster, like Prime and Magnus, or Nemesis Prime even.
I love repaints, I love homages. I don't care if they don't make new Blasters or Magnus figures really, if it's a good figure then they can repaint it a million times and I'll buy them. I just don't like this figure, so I'm indifferent to the entire issue.
Look, I hate Arcee. For the life of me I don't understand why people like her. But, I hope Arcee fans get an Arcee figure that they feel does the character justice. the same applies here for Blaster.

I like the blue paint job on the Cybertron Mudflap better. I just got one on eBay and I only paid $25 total, including S/H. And that pic of Mudflap shown in the auction doesn't do his bot mode any justice. It's actually a cool bot, capable of cool poses, but they've got him posed poorly.

Agreed on almost all points
(including not being a huge fan of Blaster, and that I really really don't like Arcee).

However, I'm not totally indifferent.
I feel Blaster deserved a whole new mold. Why??
With how many characters will be repaints,
how many are naturally repaints (Sideswipe, Ratchet, Smokescreen, etc.),
and how many we'll still see later on (for years and years and years),
this was a prefect opportunity for a new mold.
Not because he was a really important character or popular.
But considering his original (and outdated) alt mode,
there was so much more potential.
When you think about ALL of the vehicle molds out there, and that they potentially can (and probably will) be reused,
this was a chance for Hasbro to take it up a notch and do something different.
And if it would've been done well, then keep the status quo and use the mold again later on for an even more obscure character.

Believe it or not, I truly truly feel for the people who have been waiting for a good, updated version of Blaster.

I do too. I really do. But really, doesn't anyone else remember the Universe line, and how it was ALL REPAINTS? This new one isn't really Classics, it's Universe (which means repaints) with some new molds as well.
Listen, my favorite Transformer character is Starscream, and has been Starscream since 1984. Any jet Transformer can be Starscream with a few paint modifications, but I don't care. I just want my Starscreams. Sucks its not a new Blaster mold for Blaster fans, but wouldn't you be happy with a new Blaster figure instead of none at all?

So this is where we really begin to have differing opinions...
My favorite characters are Soundwave (and yeah, I like the cassetticons),
and the Constructicons.
However, I definitely don't have anywhere near all of the incarnations of those guys.
Like Classics "Devastator"...
Did they have similar names, colors, and combine?
Yeah, but for me, those things are no where close to good enough.
In fact, for me, that's one of the biggest letdowns in the realm of TF.

Similar situation with Titaniums Soundwave.
Check please!!

So depending on your tastes, this new Blaster may not be better than nothing.
It may be a big 'ol pile of disappointing shite.

Personally, if Hasbro was considering making another Soundwave, but it sucked donkey,
I'd vote "don't bother", and want them to put that money and effort into something that ends up being quality.
EVEN if it's a character that I'm not a fan of.

A **** toy is still ****, even if it's a character you like.

Those are two statements are about different topics.
But, the second is about the Cybertron Soundwave alt. mode...
Just doesn't look very cool to me.

This Blaster is the start of any and every SoundWave figure getting a coat of paint and becoming Blaster.

As long as there are idiots out there who will prove CounterPunches basic observations correct, Hasbro will have no need to feel like they ever have to do better.

Unhappy as I am, I'm glad I'm not alone in seeing it.

Hell, they can package a dog turd in the same colors, call it Blaster, and note that this new automorph feature will cause it to turn white in 3 days if left in the sun...

Now folks with common sence will avoid that, but there's still to many people that will take whatever they're given with a thankful smile who'll post "the Fly minions that swarm it are a great effect"

(:|

I want this figure to fail, cause I want better in the future, but if experience has shown anything, it's that if it has the name and colors, enough easily pleased people will buy it, and Hasbro will get lazier on a bed of money thinking of who else can be renamed what as apose to what can they do next.

I know you won't, but take a stand, avoid this figure, and send them a message that you want and deserve better.

If you don't it's only gonna get worse.

And every Downshift will become Big daddy and every Starscream will become Thundercracker and every swindle will become Camshaft from this point on!

I think a lot of people tend to forget that under a little armor it was the same truck. Oh, and what about titanium G1 Ultra Magnus? He wasn’t a prime repaint.

Blaster being a repaint of Soundwave is fine by me and I am no idiot for saying this. I will buy the toy, and everyone will cringe at how WELL it does!

Oh, and about your point on turds, if they packaged a dog turd as Starscream, then the blue dog turd was an Botcon exclusive, everyone would cry they have to live without a blue dog turd!

I LOVE G1, but I hate the notion that everything must be done just like it. If Blaster is a repaint of Soundwave its awful, or if all seven seekers aren’t made, its awful.

Suit your self, but Hasbro may decide that since fans want something “better” they’ll give you an non Soundwave repaint animated Blaster, with a replica of pretty princess from Sound and Fury and give Blaster a chin that comes down to his knees!

I get your sarcasm, but no one's saying that this would suddenly happen to that extreme.
But it's definitely not some crazy, way-out there notion that the more repaints sell, the more likely Hasbro is to over-produce them.

Again, no one's saying this.
People have given some really cool and realistic ideas for an updated Blaster alt. mode.
The point people are making is that this repaint doesn't do this character justice, especially for an "updated" version.
Maybe not everyone, but most understand that he wouldn't have had his G1 alt mode.
Just like Galvatron isn't a cannon.

And Dude, no matter how old the topic is, between these first waves in August, and any that are released in '09, a couple Seekers would've been perfect in Universe.

But it's definitely not some crazy, way-out there notion that the more repaints sell, the more likely Hasbro is to over-produce them.

Yes, it was said.

No one says it, but it’s how it seems.

If it wasn’t true, why would people be so upset Blaster is a repaint? They’re upset cause it differs from the original toy. That’s where come from saying this.

E.L. brought up a potential situation for ONE character, not 3 different ones like you tried to say in your reply... That's slightly different.

Wrong. Wanting a better Blaster doesn't mean people wanted him to be another G1 version.
If Hasbro wanted to do something different, they could've at least given us something different AND new.
Similar to what we're seeing with Galvatron, Onslaught, and even Powerglide and Silverbolt.

What I meant was, saying that every Soundwave from now on will be repainted into Blaster would be the same as saying that for any other character who’s been repainted.

People are upset cause G1 Soundwave wasn’t a Blaster repaint and this one is. They’re upset cause it’s not how it was in G1, face it.

Come on now, it's still different... None of those you even mentioned are very good examples of the point you're trying to make.

There's nothing to "face", because I truly don't believe that's the reality of it.
Even though I know there are some (but not really that many) out there that really thought/think that he should've been an updated, but still 100% G1 incarnation,
again,
I think that the mass majority of people who are unhappy with this figure are just disappointed period.

I don't know how many molds this character has been made into (or even repainted into)...
But I didn't think it was so many that a repaint would do him justice in a line that includes updated "classic" characters.

I haven't seen anything yet, but I am enjoying the extensive discussion on Blaster. A nerve has been struck...
