I just saw the new Godzilla movie. It was pretty good, IMO definitely an improvement over the previous one. A lot more action, a few more monsters. No King Kong. Having said that, it still had its faults, the main one being the same as the Transformers movies: too much emphasis on humans. The other big disappointment I had was that the end fight was too short. Otherwise, it was fun. During the credits there are several allusions to King Kong, but he's not actually on screen. There's a scene after the credits, but it's not a big deal. It might suggest the return of Ghidorah. I recommend it, it's worth 1 watch.

They are alluding to Kong because that's the next Godzilla movie, Godzilla vs King Kong, out next year I believe.

Saw Detective Pikachu earlier this week and I loved it, though the plot was the weakest part. All other aspects were superb though, and even the romance didn't feel forced as it was only hinted.

Rewatched the 2010 True Grit remake (by the Coen Brothers). Probably THE best remake of any movie by a country mile, and a damn fine movie in its own right. Also interesting to see Hailee Steinfeld in action before Bumblebee; good LORD she can act.

I liked it as well, I thought it was better than the original (probably because Jeff Bridges is a better actor than John Wayne). Also, that was her very first movie role, IIRC.

I just saw Joker. It was definitely an interesting movie. I recommend it.

The Wayne family is in it, with Thomas Wayne as sort of a villain-by-proxy and there's a definite connection to Batman. But the real evil of the film is the lack of proper treatment for mental illness. It's not as violent as it's been made out, and it's a story about desperation and mental illness, not crime or even being a villain. It's not funny, but it does have a few comical moments, as well as a few uncomfortable ones. It's not a comic book movie. Go see it.

Been watching some James Stewart westerns. He's often seen as a nice guy but in some of Bend of the River, The Man From Laramie, Winchester '73, and especially The Far Country who see a real dark side to his heroic character, the character he plays in The Far Country is a real bastard at the start of it.

Until recently I didn't realize how many westerns he was in. I just saw The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance recently and he did a good job in that. It's nearly impossible to steal a movie from John Wayne, but Stewart did.

Stewart and Henry Fonda made a LOT of westerns some better than others.
I recommend RENTING The Cheyenne Social Club this is a western comedy with Stewart and Henry Fonda. Stewart plays a straight laced cowhand in Texas whose brother has died and left him a brothel in Cheyenne, Fonda is his motormouth friend who comes with him. It's OK but to be fair this feels like a film for Paul Newman and Robert Redford (it was released 1969 or 1970). Although Stewart and Fonda do have great comedic timing this feels like they 5-10 years old for this kind of material. It has it's moments.

1969? That's the year Once Upon A Time In The West came out and Fonda was a vicious villain in that one. It would be weird to see him play a comedic role at the same time.

I watched "Glass" last night on HBO. I really enjoyed it. Had the standard Shamalama twist that you don't really see coming, even though I was watching for it.

I finally got around to seeing the new Terminator movie, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was actually pretty good, mostly action-packed, and Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger did a great job. The rest of the cast was okay, and the story was the same old with a twist, but I enjoyed it.

Also, I just finished watching The Irishman, and it was pretty good as well, especially if you enjoy mobster movies like I do, and that this was based on real events made it even better, It's a 3-hour movie, but the performances make it worth it. De Niro, Pacino and Pesci directed by Scorsese, I never thought it would happen. Took me back to movies made in the 70s that I watched as a kid.

Have any of you seen Z Nation? I just recently started watching this and I love it. It's like a more fun version of The Walking Dead. It's a little out there, but it's paced well and has an interesting premise. If you haven't seen it and like zombie stories, I recommend it.

Fonda was in a lot of different genres westerns, comedies, dramas, action, war, hell he even did a sci-fi/horror film called The Swarm.

He played another villain/anti-hero in Firecreek with James Stewart as the hero. Which I THINK is their first time they worked together in film.

Another very under-rated film he did was The Tin Star with Anthony Perkins (before he made Psycho) directed by Anthony Mann who is a very under-rated director who got some of the best and darkest performances out of James Stewart.

Just saw Sonic. Probably won't be the best movie I see this but it is worth a watch, especially since they actually listened to the fans on the design, took it back, and made him look more like Sonic. I am glad they did that. There are some Easter eggs and nods to potential sequels

A young Sonic flees a tribe of masked Echidnas that do bear resemblance to Knuckles, sporting facial features like his eyes and dreadlocks. Since Knuckles is supposed to be roughly Sonics age, he is not among the attackers. They'll definitely set him up to be an enemy-turned frien-emy if they do a third film.

The Golden Gate Bridge sequence was cut from the film, likely due to not meeting the deadline post re-design.

Sonic's bag of rings act as portals to other worlds.

Nods to certain zones, like a Highway sign to Hill Top. Green Hill is the name of the town Sonic has been hiding out in.

The mushroom world where Sonic is supposed to flee to but sends Robotnik, is a nod to Mushroom Hill, only more an emphasis on the mushrooms.

Several chili dogs were devoured by a certain blue Hedgehog during a "quicksilver sequence", one guy was completely wrapped up like a mummy in toilet paper.

Wachowski's niece gives Sonic his signature red shoes late in the film.

Robotnik sports his more familiar mustache and shaved head at the end. Throughout the film he gradually becomes more wacky like his counterpart. By the end, while stranded on the Mushroom planet, he goes full Castaway with a rock he molded into a face that he named after his assistant. He has the blue quill he discovered, indicating he will find a way back by the sequel. Hopefully his new mental state will inspire him to create more familiar-looking robots, including Sonic's evil metallic doppleganger, Metal Sonic.

It takes more than eight hits to take down Robotniks aircraft.

A Mid-credits scene occurs as another portal opens up near Green Hill. You already know who it is and they kept faithful to the design.

It took a while for it to find its footing, but once the character development gets into full swing, the story becomes very interesting, to me it did anyway. There's still the odd duck here and there, but the action, surprises and laughs keep coming. Definitely more fun than TWD, which was dragged down too much by drama and angst. The zombie effects are at least on par, and the story dealing with the actual zombie outbreak doesn't get bogged down by too much focus on the characters and their relationships. If you like zombie stuff, you should give it another try.
