MP-05 Megatron's Cosmic Rust, aka Tarnish problem (with pics) solutions inside
- Motto: "Just keep going.."

I know mine's showing signs of rust already. No weird conditions for it to sit in either.
But I don't care. I'm never reselling & he still just rocks.
Note: "Cosmic Rust". Clever!

Got mine 4 months ago, without the orange cap. =)
That Megs musta travelled.... from China to CA and from there
to Finland!
No sign of actual rust on the feet but they had lost their
sheen a little...Something that seemed only finger filth and
wiped off easily!
However Meg's spine notches have yellow brass like shine...
and I don't remember if they ought to be there!
Kinda neat but if that is a sign of trouble...then Ack!
The underside of the metal dealies of his chest seems slightly
brownish... the microsocpic holes in the metal is where
it starts, I suppose!
I'll wipe em with vinegar soon enough and add some gun oil
to all metal surfaces!
Then we can just wait and pray!
Of course the metal parts could be re-chromed with big bucks
or by home means...if ya have the knowhow.

Mine still lives in his cardboard & plastic house until I can get a decent display cabinet, but now I will have to open him up to check.
Oh well, I've been looking for a good excuse to do it.

You know, between the broken bits some people have suffered, the loosening joint problems, and now this cosmic rust, I'm glad that I held off on this figure. He looked great but there was just something about the design that made me skeptical. For those of you with him, good luck with the problems. I hope they’re not beyond repair and that you’re still happy with Megs.

there's the motto right, if it's loose and shouldn't duct tape it, otherwise WD-40 it!

So the question remains...
Who will be first to offer sealed, chromed, or just recast repro feet for Megatron?

I noticed this quite a while ago on mine. Although mine just seems to have taken on a golden color and no actual rust. It always just rubbed off with a soft cloth. I think I'll try the vinegar and WD-40 now though.

My quote exactly

BWOP: "Die-cast construction...It's a lost art!"
Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!

QFT! Justitoys has my vote. They improve on everything so far done or not done by Tak/Tomy.

Can't believe this, as soon as I seen the ad, I looked over to my Megs, and caught this disease!

I nearly bought this for my fiancee' since she's a G1 Megatron nut but I'm glad I didn't now.
I hope you guys who're affected by this will figure a way to sort it out soon.

Wow, 100.00+USD, fighting through customs, gay modifications that already degrade the value, and now rust.
Way to got TAKARA, way to go.
Now I don't feel like such a lost loser for not owning one.

They better make a masterpiece Perceptor quick! Mine looks as if it could start rusting any minute. I will also take action to protect him. I just hope his hand doesn't rust off next lol. It is pretty funny. The "Ultimate Homage." Flaws and all. It almost makes you wonder if they did it on purpose.

Gave mine the cosmic rust treatment, vinegar and WD40.
Nice and Shiny now. There is something about a bot that smells like WD40, just smells right.
Its like transformer cologne.

So has anyone seen rust problems elsewhere than the feet?
Spine or...armpit...um... stabilizer bars? =)

I eyeballed the spine piece when I was cleaning up the feet, spine was unmarred.
I did see a post from someone about a spine showing signs of rust though.
There has to be a reason behind all this, I have G1 figures that I PUT THROUGH HELL as a kid, and they dont have any damn rust.
