Hello Seibertronians,

I found a Kingdom Waspinator at Gamestop in downtown Toronto last night. I was told it just arrived. They had it behind the counter (it was the only one) with a couple of Shadow Panther figures. I'd expect they'd be at other Gamestop locations soon (if not already).

Bad news for Canadians who shop at Toys R Us. The prices for Transformers have just significantly increased. The current Covid panic mixed with the shortage of workers and so many other factors are to blame. Most Transformers are now way more expensive than before. Here's some examples:

Deluxes like Origin Bumblebee are now 37$can. Formerly 33$can, formerly 30$can.

Leaders like the overproduced SS Scavenger and Overload are now 80$can. Formerly 75$can, formerly 70$can.

The recent Draculus now jumped to 80$can. formerly 75$can.

Ectotron and X-Pense had their price increased again in such a short while. Now a whopping 100$can. Formerly 95$can, formerly 90$can.

Not pictured, the Buzzworthy Bumblebee 4 pack that is the "Transformers starter pack for kids" that have the Warrior Optimus, Megatron, Bumblebee, and Starscream, has jumped from 80$can to 90$cn. Oddly enough, the highly collectible Buzzworthy Bumblebee 4 pack containing Nemesis Primal, Fangry, Bumblebee, and Blackarachnia remains at the highly affordable 120$can without having it's price even increased. Also, it's still in stock on the shelves.
Edit: That 4 pack too, had it's price increased twice. Originally 110$can, then 115$can, now 120$can. Ironically, it's still a reasonable price for what we get.

All these price increases on such a short notice are very concerning. The inflation is getting out of control.

During this ongoing pandemic, I can count on one hand how many times I entered a TRU store, same with buying TF stuff at its website. Before the pandemic, 90% of my stuff I got at TRU. The other 10% at Walmart. EB Games (GameStop) was only for exclusives.

Not so now.

I always prefered TRU than other stores, so it's not for a lack of wants to buy my TF there, and I don't mind the price hike too much just to support them to get through the pandemic, but the problem TRU has now is nothing is ever in stock before the other guys! No pre-order on the vast majority mainline figures online either. So what can I do? Risk missing TF toys I want to wait for a chance the toys might show up at TRU's systems?

Eventually, if people do not already feel this way, no one will consider these things worth spending their hard earned cash on. For the cheap quality some of these action figures have I'm not long for leaving this hobby.

If I didn't notice it's because 120$can for that 4 pack is still a great price.
Especially compared to that 100 dollars Ectotron.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but Toys R Us was recently purchased by the owner of Everest Toys, Sunrise Records, HMV in the UK, and FYE in the US.

I wonder if the new owners also have higher margin goals? The real test would be if other retailers (I'm looking at you Walmart) follow suit.

If they stay on the shelves long, retailers will have to slash prices.
Then we can buy them.

All Hasbro merchandise have hiked prices in my country too. Some up to 10%. Most items have hiked between 2-3%. However, shelf warmers have been slashed 50% off retail prices.

This is unrelated to inflation. For one, this isn't in the US. And it's not general, it's just at Toysrus which was recently purchased in what seems to be a bad deal, and it follows other recent new admin practices.

I would not read more into this than one store wanting more.

I'm not sure about that. Walmart had increased the price of it's Movie voyagers way before TrU by 5$.
Plus to buy the toys at "normal" prices at Gamestop, you must pay a Platinum membership.

I just hope that TrU will not start a trend and the other stores would follow. As for the supply chain, small independents like my local geek store struggle to have new stock from Hasbro. Things can be late by months.
There's also that Select Black Zarak delay, not unlike the one that plagued the Scorponok reissue.

This is not just a "USA" thing for sure. And it worries me.

Also, TrU. Please STAHP.

Just writing it here since this has 3 new sighitngs
this Tigatron as well as wave 2 of the Cyberverse Roll and Combine figures, and the Studio Series wave 14 deluxes. That's the wave where the only new figure is ROTF Sideswipe. All at Walmart
