I do recall hearing that Toynami is planning on doing like 21 different figures, so there could be a great chance of new molds. As for the DYRL Kakazi...probably only a matter of time and same goes for the legendary Cannon Fodder. Still waitining on the Fast Packs though.

BTW Wave's SDF-1 is about the same size as a 1/48th VF-1.
I also recall reading on Macrossworld somewhere(I lurk, so what. :P )that Destroids and Zentradi units will also get the 1/100 treatment...could account for at least 12 units with the diferent Queadluun Rau units, battlepod types and destroid models...

OK I'm not going to loose my cool over my beloved thread being deleted. Even though it had the best guide to the various series on the net that isn't 50 pages long, or that it had a TON of photos that were a pain and a half to up load. I'm ok really. What I will do is drop some 411 for you guys about the 1/100 packs and Shadow Chronicles.

The 1/100 fast/strike packs will probably be released as wave 3 of the 1/100 line. There will be one for Rick/Roy and then one each for Max and Miria.

The shadow Chronicles is cool. Since I never saw the end of the Robotech series or the Sentinels movie I can't tell you what it was supposed to tie into. All the original voice actors were back and that made it all the better. The movie is supposed to lead into a new series and toy line. The series is either going to be OVA's or a full TV deal. I can give a full review if you would like.

I finally got the ADV English dub of Macross. All I need is volume 6 and 7. Damn good show although I could stand some more action and a little less love. The voice actress for Minmay is HOT; isn't she like 50 or something. For what it's worth ADV did release subtitled versions of Southern Cross and Mospedia already so they might go back and do a dubbed version now to go along with Macross. I definitely need to get the protoculture set just so I have something to compare all this too.

Good to be back,

Charles

Easy enough to make the twin lasers. I think. :-?

The rest....I gotta work on my sculpting. Though there's some logistics with the transformation and where the head goes. Maybe a window on the bottom? Makes me think, for sure.

Received Shadow Cronicles at work yesterday. Unfortunately, I was home with a sick baby. Now I have class tonite. So, maybe I'll wait until I can get in front of my sister's big screen HDTV on Saturday. I'll try to post a review on Sunday.

Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles.

First, if you have read "The End of the Circle" you may be both a bit disappointed and a bit surprised. I cannot say more without introducing spoilers. All in all, the story was very simple. It seemed obvious that they did not want to piss off the fan community but still wanted to put their unique flavor into the story. Also, they did the movie in such a way that a series must follow. The fan community will demand it.

First, I will get into the animation. It is astounding. The computer graphic portion fits well with the rest of the animation. However, if you have recently seen the New Generation, this animation style may well shock you. But, that is to be expected with, what, two plus decades of technology in between shows? Some of the character designs could have been a little more familiar. Scott Bernard's face is a bit longer and thinner than the New Generation. But that is really a nitpick. The mecha and starships look astounding. The transforming Alphas make me want to break out my old alpha toys and play with them again. (As an aside, I think this could be a good reason for continuing the series. There's real toy marketing potential here!) There could have been more action between mecha, but realistically, for 80 some odd minutes, it was fine. Starship design remains true to the original series, but with much appreciated added detail. I give the animation and visuals 4 out of 4 stars. (The tight flight suits are nice too *innocent look*)

Story. (Note to self: don't give away spoilers. Don't give away spoilers....) The story starts approxamately 2 episodes from the end of the New Generation. It does well to catch up those mildly familiar or unfamiliar with the story without boring the heck out of hard core fans. In fact, I think they did it in such a way as to actually appeal to the fanbase. There are references to the Sentinels (though they really don't make an appearance in this movie.) The basis of the story ties into the end of the New Generation and introduces explanations that clear up some loose ends from the previous generations. All in all, I think they could have done a bit better, but this is certainly no Michael Bay attempt at story telling. 3 our of 4 stars on the story. (Plus, the one question everybody asks at the end of the New Generation is not answered. Must wait for the series, methinks.)

Sound/voice/characters. Sound is very nice, though my brother-in-law had to adjust his surround. I don't know whether this was an issue with the DVD or his system. The opening theme is a nice update to the original, though I think I would have preferred the tinny sound of the original (probably just nostalgia getting in the way.) The new theme is much softer and fuller sounding. The nicest surprise is the voice actors. They were able to sign the original talent for Rick Hunter and Scott Bernard. Additionally, if anybody saw the Sentinels movie, you might recognize Vince Grant's voice. Additionally, Mark Hamil does a couple of voices. Sound: 3½ out of 4 stars.

Issues/inconsistancies/missed opportunities. No Beta transformations, sorry. It would have been awsome. Yet what does appear with the mecha is stellar, so again, a nitpick. No Minmei, yet there are very nice nods to her. Minmei's partner from the Sentinels, however, does make an appearance. But, this messed with continuity a bit, at least as far as the Sentinels go. There's an obvious boo-boo in reference to Ariel/Marlene. I cannot say more without introducing a spoiler, so you'll have to see it (or I can clear it up over PM.) There are probably more, but I'd have to watch it again. Which I will do.

All in all, I give The Shadow Cronicles 3½ our of four stars. To compare, I'd give MacrossII 3 stars, Macross DYRL 4 stars, and Macross Plus 4 stars. The animation is on par with Macross Plus. The story doesn't stand up to DYRL, but is not bad.

(Now, the only problem is going back and watching the animation of the original series. It's a good thing I love the soundtracks and story so much.)

Man, I want to do spoilers so bad, but that'll have to wait...

okay, sorry for the double post here guys but Robotech.com reveals NEW masterpiece figures including from Shadow Chronicles Maia Sterling`s Alpha AND Cyclone armors!!!! see!? however, on inspection of the photos of the Cyclone armor, I have to admit I`m seeing only marginal, if any, improvement over my old Gakken Cyclone armor...still, if it is better then I suspect(or even to just mess around with it a bit without fearing destruction of a rare thing like a Gakken Cyclone armor)I might just pick one up for myself...Alpha`s...ehh, the black is sweet but I`m not all "gotta get them all" over the Alpha`s....(and STILL no salesdate on the damned 1/100 FAST/Strike packs! :-x )

That's a heck of a question. On the one hand, there's a "Flowers for Algernon" type of situation going on. How does one go back to that crappy (it so wasn't for the day, but let's face it, compared to today it is) animation after seeing the new stuff? On the other hand, Cronicles does a nice job of catching you up, so it's not necessary to see the old series before seeing it.

I think you could go either way. I just know that I highly recommending seeing this one, even if you just Netflick it.

Helpful, aint I?

As for the toys, It'd be cool to get the paint scheme of Miai's Shadow Alpha, but I already have a Shadow one. I agree with you that it's a lot of money to collect all the Alphas. (though I'm just four short of a complete set now...) I just want a Beta. BADLY!!!

The Cyclone armor looks a lot like the Matchbox one I had before I sold it about 10 years ago. It looked alright, but playability was pretty lacking. I'd have to see it before I decide to buy it.

that I was going to get Shadow Chronicles was already a given for me, I just wanted to see if it were more usefull to get the original series first or not...and yes, the Cyclone seems the same as my Gakken toy...it`s not bad but...it could be a LOT better considering today`s technology...for one, the human in the basearmor seems well...malnourished if that armor`s as tight as I suspect it is supposed to be.I`ve seen Action Man figures that could hold a LOT more weight on their backs and STILL only had cloth and plastic armor parts holding it there...why not do something like that?it would make the figure a LOT nicer and more articulate since you can simply swap out the base figure for another then...

guys
I just scored a 1/15 Garland for £45 inc. delivery, the seller said that the box is slightly damaged and sent me a picture of it and there is a rip on the box side and a slight crush on the otherside, he said a buyer retuned it as he was a MIMSB collector

That's a tough decision and I'd hate for you to be unhappy based on my recommendation. I hope my info is helpful, but I'm hesitant to say which way is better. I think there are good arguments for both. The only piece of info that might be notable is that it is hard for me to look at the old animation after seeing the new stuff. i just have to appreciate it for its time and I'm okay.

I liked Cronicles enough to recommend it to anybody who is a Robotech fan, but I don't know what to tell you as far as which to get first...

I have a few in my photobucket and on my Laptop. I will try and post em later tonight. And if I cant find em I will just take some new ones!

Also because I always do this...expect a Yamato 1/60th YF-19 gallery in a few days. I got it but havent had time to take any pictures. I really like the figure though. (I miss the 40 pages we had on the old thread..I had like 10+ galleries!)
