Yeah, I saw them. I got myself a Bruticus and a Devastator. The plastic is is pretty good quality, even if the molds are are a bit iffy. Still nice, though.

i got the walgreen devastator.

the bot that forms the shoulder girdle has issues with his arms, when you try to pull them out they tend to pop off the pegs and then the peg assembly vanishes inside the small bot torso, other than that the other individual figures transform and look ok. The left arm robo has a circular port that holds him to the peg on the shoulder robot, this port is very lose and so his arm swings, opening the bot you can add tape round the swiveling section to tighten it. The saving grace of this $5 figure is that in combined mode (once the swinging arm is fixed) the whole thing fits together quite well and is remarkably solid, watch out for stress marks showing on the purple hip section though.

i also got the big lots defensor, this is also quite good, the individual bots are better than the devastator ones, more solid overall although the plastic seems cheaper. THe biglots defensor looks nicer than the walgreen one, at least thats from just examining through the packs.

ive not opened superion (walgreen) i heard that one of the superion KO's was really bad (with people chucking him in the bin), how is the walgreen one??

Superion turned out to be pretty solid with all looks aside, but Devastator was my disapointment. Moldings and fittings were off and plastic was weak enough to break before I could get him fully assembled. Too bad, he would have looked decent.

Or just break out the glue! I had to do a bit of gluing (and sanding) to fix the Defensor I got at Family Dollar, but it was far easier (and more interesting) than going all the way back there to exchange it for another one that may or may not have been up to snuff.

However, if Walgreens is just around the corner, it couldn't hurt to try.

for sure as long as ko's are cheap enough they are fun. at least they dont try to be the real thing unlike the expensive remakes of swoop, mirage etc.

Superion's thighs are incorrectly transformed. Should have a wider stance. The feet should not be colliding with each other.

Fold the thigh joint up and outwards. :)

Pic of my knockoff gestalts (excluding the Brave Max ones):

I fixed up the animal dude's left leg with a bit of nail polish, so now he's standing tall! He's still about an inch shorter than the others, but he didn't cheat by tacking on a ton of extra pieces. ;)

KOs are great

Postby jorod74 » Fri Nov 02, 2007 3:39 pm

i buy KOs for 2 reasons:
cheap and easy to cannabalize.

i have an orginal Superion gestalt.
well, he was almost complete. he was missing his feet.
well, by accident, i found and then spent 10 bucks at wal-mart on one of those easter basket sets, and the next day, i bought two more. gave the baskets and goodies to a couple kids down the block, kept the superion sets and now i have parts.

i always had one problem when i first started buying them:
the menasor set had all but one stunticon.
and they replaced him with a technobot. what the heck?

one last thing: i know it isn't a KO, but the Universe Superion comes darn close as far as quality.
i bought my set from KB online, and within 5 minutes of getting them out of the packages, i broke an arm just trying to transform one of them.
touchy pieces.
i was able to return and replace him.
now, god, someone help me get a KO predaking.

Part of the reason I like knockoffs -- aside from the intriguing and amusing wacky variations -- is that I like actually playing with toys. The more expensive a figure is, the less likely I am to want to touch it, but with cheap knockoffs I can handle them as much as I want. And if they break? Either buy a replacement (assuming that one can still readily be found) or whip out the glue and try to fix it. Not that I'm the most mature adult to begin with, but I really feel like a kid again (as opposed to a collector and "toy enthusiast") when I'm hunting for and playing around with knockoffs. :)

Sounds like you were lucky with that Menasor set -- from what I understand, most of the ones with replacements have TWO Technobots instead of just one! I've been hoping to run into this set at some point, though -- all I really want is the Motormaster.

I saw a KO Predaking going for $40 not too long ago on tfieds.com. But why bother with that when you can swing by Big Lots and pick up Predamaul (whaddya think? yes? no? ;) ) for $6 instead?

Although I guess he wouldn't be much for parts swapping unless you have the original version of him... in which case you should tell me what it is immediately!

you bought it, play with it...

Postby jorod74 » Fri Nov 02, 2007 9:50 pm

yep, i play with mine. love to. as much as i drool like a misguided teen at Hefner's mansion at the sight of some of these collectors' pictures of their wall of trophies, i feel sad. how can you reach in there, pull out Ratchet without knocking a dozen others over and then play?
sad.
back to topic.
i spent about 6 hours (as i waited for a girl i adore to PM me) looking EVERY F^%**n where for the KO Predaking.
found 2 auctions, but the shipping alone was astronomical.
it sucks to spend 50 bucks to ship the 35 dollar set of toys ya bought.
but thanks to this thread, i am getting stoked at the cooler KOs, and the chance to add a few to my collection.

May even buy a KO of Omega Supreme- G1- for actual playtime. his alt mode kept me distracted for days.

keep it up cloners. (suck on it, Jango Fett. The empire can't be the only ones doing knock offs.)

For anyone who is looking for the k.o. dinobots just type in The Dinosaur Store then goto educational products and under that heading Transformers. Not only can you see every toy in the set but you can also buy them as well. Its a lot less expensive than e-bay and though the articulation is limited, the quality is excellent!

Wow. Thanks. This is a nice starting point for a Dino kitbash.

Unfortunately, can't see close up pick of each.

which KO wouldn't you mind buying?

Postby jorod74 » Sat Nov 03, 2007 2:34 pm

which TF KO would you buy even if the colors were almost god awful?

me, i personally wouldn't mind dropping 20 on a purple sky lynx or maybe 50 for a funky G1 Scorponok.

but for the moment, i will obsess over da 'King and keep hunting.

oh, i was stoked about that shockwave till i saw the head sculpt.

All except the Devastator are from Big Lots (though I've seen the Superion and Defensor at Family Dollar as well) -- they're part of the Quick Change Transforming System line. I actually picked the Devastator up during a visit to China -- it's the Engineering robots set that pops up on eBay on occasion.

Incidentally, the Devastator is probably the worst quality out of all of them, though I suspect that part of that is simply due to the original Superion and Defensor being better toys anyway.

jorod74 wrote:which TF KO would you buy even if the colors were almost god awful?

The colors being godawful would definitely be a plus in my book! I hope I run across that adorable Grimlock with yellow and blue plastic someday.

Also, QUESTION -- do you guys know anything about these KOs?

http://www.agesthreeandup.com/?p2=shopp ... alog_id=92

I'm mainly interested in the sizes -- if they're big enough, one of these guys might be a good candidate for a hand-swapping (or even head-swapping!) operation with Rescue Ratchet.

Or even if not, they do look cool enough to warrant picking up one or two. :)
