New Transformers Movie TV Spot
I think people are blowing the Prime mouth out of proportion...if nothing else, because it's hard to make out what exactly you're looking at for a 1/2 second shot...& a dark profile shot at that. I do kinda wish, though, that Hasbro (& Mainframe, though Machine Wars Prime came before BW Primal, IIRC) never gave Prime a mouth. Seriously...what is pepople's issue with characters in masks? DO they think that if Prime has a faceplate on that that's telling people that it's some kind of metaphor for insecurity...like he has some psychological problem....or is it beyond suspension of belief that a alien robot might be able to function without what we humans use to talk & eat with?
That shot of Screamer, though...I did slow it down & replay it enough to say aside from being more fluid than you would think a prop robot should be, he did look like he was actually there sliding in between cars flipping them & scraping against them as he went by. Still looks like a chicken gorilla, though......
Oh, & BTW, that was Cullen, though it seemed like he was doing a deeper, more hulking voice for Prime than what he usually does.....maybe Bay thought Prime should sound like Barry White toting a bazooka

I recall the guys (TF Webmasters and the like) who got the special Transformers Movie preview a while ago, hinting that there might be some backlash from fans about Prime's face. From what I'm reading, guess they were totally right!
Saying that though, I actually think Prime looks cool! Come on guys, think about it, any mug you throw under Prime's mask will spark controversy. And why? I think it's because most TF purists have a different idea of what good old Op looks like under there anyways...
The face will take getting used to of course. And yess, there may be no logical reasons for having lips on a TF and such (as there are many holes in the TF concept itself!), but come on, I'm sure some ppl will say that the TFs gave "wooden performances" and the like, if they were to remove such humanoid elements.
Again, I know evolution/change will be hard. And of course there are things you will totally like/not like outright (I myself have my quips), but essentially, sometimes you just really need to relax and really give things a chance...
Saying all of that though, I'm dropping a quip here
hope they clean up the cgi for the start of Prime's transformation. Think it initially looks a little too cartoony. They need Less liquid looking metal and more solid metal!

And I'm pretty sure that that's Cullen. Sources have said he's using a deeper voice, and it really does sounds like him, especially when he says "Prime". Also, why would they put a temp. voice actor in one of their trailers this close to the release. I'm sure Cullen has started recording by now.

Here is the real problem in my opinion. All the other robots have rather alien faces. However, Prime here has a rather humaniod face. It seems very inconsistent and contrary to their obvious concept (aliens should look alien not humaniod). It seems they are trying to have us sympathize the most with Prime and gave him a face to do so. In doing this their are abandoning their chosen style and rejecting people's perception of Optimus Prime...sorry but most people identity Prime with the faceplate, fans and laymen alike. Very counter-intuitive.

They destroyed my childhood memories
First off...yes it is Cullen doing the voice cuz i watch Transformers the movie at least twice a week and can tell..Second..the transformation looks dumb and fake!..When Prime transforms it looks like something out of an ED Wood movie!...I won't even get into the lips/face shield argument! but something tells me that human beings vain desire to shape the movie and plot around humans and not the transformers will be what sends this movie down into the gutter!...But I will say this...the last part of the clip where u can see a side view of Optimus Prime and something coming from out of the ground looks promising!...I just hope there's more of that and less of the stuff I hate!

Wow, I'm actually glad the clip was removed before I could see it LOL. You guys all sound Pissed!!!
Prime's mouth without the plate sounds freakin' terrible like all the other goofball things they've tried to change from the G1 series? I've actually tried not to find out more stuff about the film. I did that with XMEN when it first was gaining steam, and I was severely dissapointed with all those films. I read comics and I dislike many aspects of the Xmen movies from a comic perspective. Yes, yes, I know from a popcorn fan's view they're great? But if you read Xmen or watched the shows, the movies don't make any damn sense?
That's my fear with Transformers as I'm sure are yours. My advice to you guys is this, stop trying to keep up with and find out what is in this film. Stop inquiring about how they look or what the actions of the script are, Geez I know how hard that is. You will enjoy the movie, game, and comic more if you read it, watch it, play it without any pretense or any knowledge going in. If I'd just gone into XMen the way I did with Spiderman, I'd have enjoyed it far more.
See, so many Spiderman comic fans Hate those movies? Cause they went in expecting Comic Venom/Carthage'Kingpin Spiderman? No Way you'll get that in a movie made for all ages? I really enjoy Spiderman movies cause I have no expectations of seeing the Kingpin? We shouldn't expect to Ultra Magnus anytime soon or Shockwave anytime. . .
This is another TF brand totally. Its TF revisted for the new Millenium. The core idea is the same "Robots in Disguise" but their "mission" is what's different? The idea of them being Aliens is more central, and somewhat terroristic, and a possible military threat. That's really different to what they where to us in 1985? Frankly, they're more GI JOE THAN TRANSFORMER?
Back in the day, they where just cool cars or planes that could become sentient thinking robots with kickass guns and other 'powers'. Now its far more upscaled. They've got to have "an agenda" and they need to "emote"??? OKAY? I didn't Prime needed to "emote"? He just needed to kick Megatrons' ass...
and vice versa.
But like I said, this film isn't just for us, its for "them" too... the PopCorn fans. There will be alot for Us I think though. Too bad George Lucas isn't doing this movie... it would be all for Us then, he does movies for His people, not for anyone else, Unashamedly.

I'm actually glad Lucas has nothing to do with this movie. I wouldn't like to see Megatron screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The original Star Wars trilogy maybe classic but Episode 1, 2 and 3 was just dull and boring, and lacks the flare that made the original so timeless. At least that's my opinion.
All I can say about this movie is that the action is gonna be top-notch. Which is ok if you ask me cause at the end of the day Transformers at least in the cartoon has always been about robots kicking each others ass.

I couldn't agree with you more! Lucas clearly made episodes 1-3 for him, not the fans/movie goers. That's exactly how he hinted he's going to handle 'Indy 4' as well (alluded to it in an interview from Comingsoon.net). I'd take Bay over Lucas any day!

I've been away at a Convention since friday but caught this on my friend's brother's computer. The sound was off though.
The only thing that bugged me, that I think we all are going to in some way have to get use to, was Optimus's lips. If he was that close to me I'd probably think he was gonna eat me!

His mouth is fine- weird way of moving, but completely acceptable.
We all knew he had a mouth behind the faceplate, and it's certainly an improvement over his masterpiece toy.

okay... I've waited a long time for this movie to only have ONCE agin be very let down by people swearing they're FANS and "F" it up...
WHAT THE HELL... seriously. This is not even Transformers...its a bunch of robots pretending, maybe they got the title wrong and should've named it GO-BOTS!
How can you change Bumble-Bee, and Starscream...THAT IS NO WAY HIM! Dude talk about missing the mark...
And added new Bots? dude, what the hell is this...what Cartoon did they watch, it certainly wasnt Transformers.
This is a sad day, I guess we'll just have to wait 20 years until someone OPENs their Eyes and redoes this Bad Movie, just like Batman & He-Man the 2nd time around will be better.
Any Fan, True Fan will agree... come'on, if they were going to destroy Icons like Transformers by doing the live action, they should have just done a Anime Movie... I'd rather watch the True Transformers movie in the Theater then the Carp they're going to show!
