It was original and not a rehash of stuff done 25 years ago.

I take it you haven't experienced the trauma of our hero Optimus Prime being killed off permanently in the original movie (until Season 3's The Return of Optimus Prime that is). He is not Kenny from South Park you know

Lately he kinda is... ever since 1986 he's died in almost every continuity. When can we have an official continuity where Prime lives the whole time?
Looks like Prime got into the energon goodies jar

Nah, I think we could do better than that...
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

He died in Armada, which counts for all of the UT.
He died in Animated....for 75 seconds....
And i wouldn't put it past Prime.
RiD is the only continuity where prime never died once.
Currently on a quest to collect as many Unicron Trilogy toys as possible...maybe even complete the collection...

Anyways...am I the only one who didn't like the 86 movie all that much? Well, that's inaccurate, I did like some parts, but it wasn't super-amazing or anything.
The movieverse, only without all the surviving characters, and then set in the G1 world seems like it wouldn't work to me.
Plus, what's the point of killing Optimus AGAIN...?

NO! You're not alone. I hated it with the burning fury of a thousand suns as a kid. I disliked much of the 86 film, and 3rd season that followed growing up. Basically mowing down all characters I like and replacing them with mostly more annoying knock offs...didn't go over well for me. (for more of my views of the 86 film ..check this hehe viewtopic.php?f=27&t=49426&start=0 )
I disliked seeing Ironhide getting killed in Dotm as it was opening old wounds.(It wasn't a bad death, as he had a moment fo glory before he passed, but I just wished see him survive the entire trilogy. He dies too often for my taste.) It really sapped my enjoyment of the film. He was always one of my favorites, and the movieverse Ironhide was one of the coolest versions yet.
I got nervous when prime said one shall stand...one shall fall in the first film. When the Forest battle ensued, I don't think I was breathing the entire fight as I was literally on the edge of my seat. Just when I thought Prime made it "out of the woods" Megatron runs him thru...Like Holy crap! They did it to me again. I was like calm down Mike...Jet-Optimus will be formed at the end of the film..only a Prime can defeat the fallen..he has come back.
Yeah I'm a grown adult, but when I watch these films, my inner 6 year old is what comes out. That part of me HATES seeing Optimus Prime, or old favorites buy the farm. I expect see a few fall along the way, but I NEVER want to see series go all 86 on the autobots like that again.
I like if death has to happen, it has some meaning as shock value cheap deaths are a great way alienate fans. I can't expect them all go out in a blaze of glory like Dinobot, but I want characters to be given something better than what 86 gave most of them. If we are going have see a bunch of autobots or Decepticons fall left and right...make fodder or unnamed background ones. (or make homages to gobots to kill hehe.)

Optimus Prime leads his troops in a space-battle against the Decepticons. Meanwhile, the 'Cons discover a signal on a nearby planet(Earth)(unknown to them, it's the signal of a long lost Cybertronian craft, that carried the Map of Primus, which leads to the Vector Sigma, and a key to activate it) and send some troops there. Autobots find out about this and begin a counter-mission. However, Optimus cannot leave his troops and sends a team of Autobots, led by his old friend Ultra Magnus, to stop the Decepticons and protect human-kind.
Both Shockwave and Magnus communicate with their respective leaders in space. Also, Autobots befriend some humans, who help them fight the 'Cons and find the missing cruiser.
Autobots:
Ultra Magnus (Team leader)
Hot Rod (Scout-Warrior)
Wheeljack (Scientist)
First Aid (Medic)
Chromia (Warrior-SIC)
Longarm (Construction worker-Warrior)
Decepticons:
Shockwave (Team leader)
Starscream (Air patrol-SIC)
Shadowstriker (Scout-Assassin)
Octane (Warrior)
SixShot (Medic-Scientist)
Drones (Scout-Warrior-Medic assistant)(There are multible versions: ground-based, water-based and air-based)

EDIT: And for the record, I didn't copy what I wrote. I tried to think all possibilities for it to be as original as I could. Even considered Sunstorm instead of Starscream. And I didn't mention children, did I?

I wouldn't kill everyone off like the original did, or have Rodimus replace Optimus. Galvatron would be a new character. Possibly Megatron's former second in command who Megatron exiled on a barren planet or something for trying to overthrow him.

That's 100 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. In short don't ask for a G1 movie. You'll regret it no matter who's directing because straight adaptations of the source material universally suck.
The Problem with TLAB was the same thing that wrong with the Transformers movie franchise and that's Pretentious, blowhard directors who can't direct there way out of a paper bag. I know There are a lot of thing in G1 that was complete BS but the spirit of made transformers special was there.
