Better than paying $200 a year from now. Really doubt Hasbro will be releasing these licensed cars, too, and if they did they'd surely botch their decos.
Plus, ordered a KO MP-14 from eBay. (will get an original one if they'll tweak the shoulders and doors in line with the cartoon model. White thighs would also be nice.)

Considering what great job they did with the Nissan trio I wouldn't be surprised if Takara went back and tweaked Red Alert to perfection someday. Maybe when they'll get to the 2nd season characters.Dean ML wrote:I hear you about Red Alert. I'm sure we'll never get a retool with the doors hanging off his shoulders, but his thighs should definitely be the same silver used on his forearms and feet. Still, he's definitely good enough to be essential to my MP collection. At least TT stepped up with the tweaks they made to differentiate Bluestreak and Smokescreen from Prowl.

Leave it to Dead Metal to have the word 'Pronz' in his signature.

Best guess I can think of for why they do it is this. They probably assume that the target audience of consumers who will buy the Hasbro Masterpiece toys will have already bought the TakaraTomy Masterpiece versions by the time Hasbro releases their versions, and so feel the need to make the Hasbro ones different enough to give these fans enough of a reason to buy Hasbro's MPs on top of the Takara MPs Hasbro assumes the fans will have already bought. Otherwise, Hasbro probably figures that the Hasbro MPs won't sell of they're too similar to Takara's MPs since they feel the fans wouldn't want to buy more than one of the exact same super expensive toy if they're not that different enough from each other.
The problem with Hasbro thinking like that (if they do, that is) is that there are a LOT of fans who choose not to go for the Takara MPs in hopes that Hasbro would release their own versions, hoping for a less expensive alternative to getting the MP molds Takara makes. And people seem to really dig the show-accuracy of the Takara MPs, but still hope for Hasbro to release their own so as to not spend quite as much money on import prices. Hasbro needs to realize that it's the show-accuracy of the Takara MPs that people really like, and those who wait for Hasbro's MP versions want to see that show-accuracy reflected in the Hasbro MPs so as to not need to purchase the Takara MPs.
This is exactly why I'm glad I'm a fan of both the cartoons and the comics, since the old Marvel Comics tended to stick with toy colors (i.e. - yellow eyes for Optimus and Soundwave, blue Roller, etc.) and so I feel I can pick and choose which versions of which characters I want to use the MP toys to represent.Dean ML wrote:I'm all about show accuracy, though. In fact, after finally finishing the three Japanese G1 seasons and restarting with Sunbow's season 1, seeing a silver Roller on the screen and having a blue Roller on my shelf is really bugging me. Same with my Hasbro Prime's yellow lights, which were red on the show. Those eyes are his saving grace. Which is also why I ended up spending $100 more for TT's MP Soundwave. Gotta have those red eyes.

Aren't all of the TakaraTomy versions of the MPs like that?Stormrider wrote:MP Sideswipe is stamped "Tomy" on the bottom. Is the omission of Hasbro from the stamp indicate that MP Sideswipe will be released by TakaraTomy only?

He did? I remember Mirage always breaking in half. I remember Prowl, Bluestreak, & Smokescreen's roof and rear windows breaking.Cyberpath wrote:Yeah, 84-Prowl was a rather sophisticated toy in its day, but very brittle. He also broke in half.
I like the new pic.

Apparently Prowl was pushed back to Sep 28, and Bluestreak to Oct 26.ScottyP wrote:Never ever had an issue with a G1 Datsun breaking. Several friends had them too, back in the day, and no problems either. Guess it's all luck!
So for those of you with HLJ preorders as well, are we expecting any day now?!
