Upcoming TF Universe line rocks

Postby Silver Galvatron » Wed Feb 20, 2008 2:40 am

Just saw the pics(i know). Will be looking forward to pickup Prowl, Tankor, Onslaught(hail return of Ultra), indeed. Others may need more convincing. Though, the idea of finally releasing an updated BLASTER is wicked, but the Soundwave repaint screams disappointment and :BOOM: . What happened to the NEW designs they were bragging bout? I just think they could come out a tad creative. A voyager van pimped out with subs and gadgets would've been it. ANY vehicle would. In anycase, Powerglide's history is still a blank2me so more research soon, no doubt. But the future of collecting new TFs for me definitely looks brighter already.

Silver Galvatron still rocks.

For the Classics:

- Galvatron, looks awesome (just wished they made him Voyeger size)
- Prowl is probably the best looking out of all of the classics
- Sunstreaker, wish the arms were a little bigger and chest a little smaller but might get anyway.
- Powerglide - I will wait till Takara gets a hold of it.
- Onslaught - I actually like the bulkyness of the guy, he looks tough.
- The rest, I could care less about.

Animated:

Jazz- all the way
Dinobots - will diffenitely get all

The rest not so much, eventhough I do enjoy the new cartoon.

Anything else is just a waste of money to me.

I'm guessing that Hasbro couldn't get the rights to the name "Slag," as the TFA character who transforms into a Triceratops is named "Snarl."

hmmm...I never thought about that. I just assumed it was a typo, but the character was never actually called anything in the show, was he? Snarl sounds fine I suppose.

I don't consider myself a scale Nazi, and it's not a deal-breaker by any means, I just wish he was a Voyager, and I really don't understand why they'd make him a Deluxe. Especially when a character like Powerglide gets an Ultra figure.

In a perfect world he would be the biggest release out of all the new classics, but im happy with what we have at the moment, if we dont get a bigger one that turns into a cannon in the next year or so ill be quite dissapointed. Plus, in a perfect world, Blaster would've been an MP3 player with his own mold rather than a repaint from a totally different series. (i'll still buy him though, damn my obsession with Blaster lol)

I considered that too, but it just seems more likely that Hasbro couldn't even copyright/trademark "Autobot Slag," so they went with a name they already had dibs on. Of course, it could just be another case of Brawl vs Devastator.

I can't really say the Animated toy line is doing much to catch my interest this year. There are a couple of molds that are interesting - Leader Megatron for example - but not many. I'll probably be sticking with the new molds in Universe this year (they could have at least given "Blaster" a new head instead of being a straight recolor of C-Soundwave).

I must admitt I'm pretty psyched by the Universe line, Prowl and Sunstreaker look great. Anyone know if Jazz is getting the Universe treatment and if so is he Deluxe or Legends mold?

Universe (Classics 2.0) Galvatron

Postby Sylus » Sun Feb 24, 2008 6:58 pm

I can't stop looking at the pic of his bot mode but his alt mode makes me cry. Does anyone else here think he'd be better off as a plasma cannon? His alt mode doesn't seem like it would be able to aim the cannon anywhere but side to side. Is there any possibility that they'll fix that in the actual release or is it maybe possible that his alt mode isn't final and that his final release could become a plasma cannon instead? I'd much rather have him turn into a plasma cannon as it'd go better with the G1 feel the other classics have, I don't see why they'd make him a tank anyways.

I was kinda baffled by that one too, but then I realized the G1 cannon was kinda...well...stupid...

Hey, I just noticed something.. The toy of Galvatron has very tank esque tracks on it, and just to me looks like a tank.

And I very much doubt they'll change it. No, I KNOW they won't change it.

Besides, I like it. :D

I myself would prefer an updated recreation of the origional figure.

Who knows in the future year 2005, canons may realy look like that?

In lue of that though, I do think outside of this figures body, the rest is all screwed up. What I hope though is that suport of it will eventualy lead towards a show acurate reproduction.

I think his Cannon mode was kick ass, it was raw and accurate power. My main gripe with his new alt mode is that, well, looking at his pics it doesn't like the cannon can be aimed up or down only side to side if even that. I'd still prefer a Plasma Cannon mode, but the tank mode could work if they'd just make the cannon movable.

I think this whole Slag/Snarl thing is more easily explained when you think about international Marketting.

Back in the 80's the American writers picked the name Slag as in America its just the word for Molten metal which was Slag's thing and of course the show was aimed at the American audience. However when the show hit the UK there was a little worry as Slag is an insult (roughly the same as a dirty whore).

With marketting being as important as it is today (and without having to change a charachter name on the UK packaging, or re-record parts of the script for the UK shows) it just makes more financial sense to rename the Charachter.

You make a good point. I guess we can't expect to see the name 'Slapper' used anytime soon then! (That has pretty much the same meaning in the UK.)

I personally like Galvatron. If it was that big a deal for me to have the original canon alt mode, I'd go hit Action HQ up for the Takara reissue.

My vote for the HOF goes to my favorite Transformer, Kup, to the Headmasters (who still need new figures that aren't just the characters without their master components) and to seibertron.com for for being the ultimate TF resource.

Well, I hope not. We'll be getting enough repaints out of this mold as it is.

Nice but unfortunately, I do not think it works well for Jazz. If they want to make a figure similar to the original Porsche, he needs smaller wings. This figure's are too large.

I have a feeling that we will get 2 repaints of that figure and that is plenty. It is a cool mold but we only need two repaints of it.
