No, sir, just cuz ROTF made a metric sh*t ton of money, doesn't make it a quality film, and it most certainly is no where near better than TF 1(it had it's flaws, but it was good). It just means that there are millions of suckers out there that'll gobble up what they're fed en mass. It was a critical failure, but it got spun around in a way that the critics were just outta touch. And while I almost always disagree with movie critics, with ROTF I think they hit the nail on the head. While I felt the robot action was great, everything else flat out sucked.
And I'm getting really sick and tired of the whole"it's a toyline, it's not Oscar quality, blah blah blah" arguments. This is how you defend a crappy movie, by slamming it's origins cuz it's a toyline, and then you have the nerve to call yourself a fan? No, I don't think it needs to be up there with LOTR and such, but I would like a decent movie. Not just pretty CG, explosions and T and A. How's about a little plot. ROTF, was great in theory, especially with the Solar Harvester angle(which is obviously based on the Solar Needle, which was, GASP, a plot line from G1 episode. TAKE THAT G1 HATERS!), but very poorly executed. How's about some character development for the titular characters of the film, and not a bunch of what's supposed to be supporting cast. Yeah, it's a toyline. But last I checked, it's called TRANSFORMERS, not The Sam and Mikeala love story with some giant robots from outer space. Yeah, it's a toyline, one that thrived for 25+ years on being based on it's namesakes. Take any one of the TF series that has come and gone, not just G1. While it is most certainly aimed at children, the Transformers themselves were the main focus, not the supporting cast. And with BW/BM and Animated, the story telling was top notch, while still being aimed at kids, adults(like myself) could enjoy it as well with out feeling like they being dummied down. And that's what these live action movies are doing exactly, we as fans have to dummy ourselves down to enjoy it. Because, after all, it's only a toyline, what do we expect? No sir, sorry. That argument don't fly with me, or many other fans for that matter. Again, we don't need Oscar caliber material, but don't insult our collective intelligence cuz it's based on a toyline.

(great insperational speech) I think that my understandings on the transformers timeline got bigger too
