If it was more reasonable like $180 or something I might consider it.

The only thing that will be invisible is the buyer's money. *poof* straight to rip-off seller who deserves to be run over several times by Galvatron.

Umm...Why? He's selling an item that maybe 5,000 people might have the opportunity to acquire. No one is forcing a person to buy it for that amount. And it's not like it's scalping or extortion.

Why? I'll tellz ya why.
1. The seller is simply a greedy person hoping to make a killing off of those who really want this.
2. It's a plastic toy. You can get a normal Mirage (same mold) for under $10 on ebay.
3. It's bland. All it is is clear blue. Nothing more.
4. If a fan wants one, great. If a fan pays $500 for it, great. But it's a foolish way to spend hard-earned money. Okay, so that's just my opinion, but it is a logical one at least. Those things are being handed out for FREE, and he's asking more for that thing than any of the exclusives seekers (individually sold). It's rediculous.
When I was at SDCC a few years back, I really wanted to get a Keldor figure (Masters of the Universe). Most of the scalpers got them. Tons were on ebay. A $20 Keldor was listed at no less than $100 each. That's just plain wrong. But then, those damn morals and ethics of mine are so inconvenient these days...

I would be more angry at the person who paid the $500 than at the guy who sold it. If you had the chance to make half a grand off of a piece of blue plastic, you can't tell me with a straight face that you wouldn't do the same thing.
Your second and third points aren't a factor into the sellers auction. They mean nothing to him. This is no different than selling a rare piece of art for thousands of dollars. After all that's just a piece of paper with colored smudges on it.
And your fourth point is what I was getting at. If someone is willing to pay $500 for something you got for free, would you say no? Your logic goes like this "If someone just walked up to you and said they would give you half a grand for your bottle of pop, you would look at them and say no." Because that equates to what you're telling me.
And yes I know you'll come back with "well no one is coming to him saying they'll pay that much. He's saying that whoever wants it will pay that much. Period". Thing is though is that if someone does pay that much, my little story above works fine. And I wouldn't be surprised if a desperate person does pony up the money for it.
Also. It's not like he's unwilling to give it up for less. He does have a Best Offer button. Who's to say that he isn't willing to give it up for a couple hundred dollars? He just has the BIN set high for suckers who can't take a moment to send him an offer.

Nope. There were 1250 sets of Games of Deception produced, 1050 as boxed sets, 200 as bagged. Even assuming that they were ordered in equal quantities with the Mirage to cover freebies for con volunteers there still won't be many more than 1000.

Yup, think I read theres about 800 attendees. So with the colunteers, 1000 souns about right.
Limited to 1500, the JP TRU exclusive Omega Prime fetches 500 on ebay. I wouldn't be shocked to see these Mirages selling for about that much.
And Mirage is not free. I paid 279 for 6 figures, him being one of them. I see it more as, if you don't go to Botcn, you are penalized by having your Mirage taken away.
He is cool though. I have all the seekers and Bugbite set up, with Mirage on the same shelf sneaking up on them. Good stuff.

I don't see the problem with this sort of thing,
Everybody has a choice whether to bid or not, if they choose to then that's their own business.
Can't blame a guy for trying to makew a bit of cash, am sure if you were fortuitous enough to have a spare figure and someone offered you $500 for it you'd at least consider it...
Cheers,
Doug

It's a rare item only a few people have, Transformers fans have been created since the early 80's, and now there's hype with a new movie.
There is no story here.
Well the story here is someone is thinking that he can sell I say probably the most under-rated botcon figure this year comparing to other for the price that you could get the primus package that you might see listed on ebay. Unfortunately we dont get to see the full story of it since there was no buyer who is stupid enough to pay $500 for it so now it's down to $200.
