Who's this, now?

I think it's #4, the one holding the mace. It's certainly not one of the 5 main Dinobots. Maybe it's another take on Movie Grimlock, or maybe it's something else (come on, ankylosaurus). Either way, I'll probably get it.

Interesting. The design does look different yet... vaguely familiar (unless I'm just imagining said vague familiarity). :-?

The body shape and head are based on Skar from IDW.

I don't think I got that email but I just checked my list of preorders and sure enough there it is, $102.99 :). Cool beans. It ain't much, but every little bit helps, especially with all the stuff hitting my PoL this month.

Ahhh crap, all these third party dinobots look cool... can't afford both PlanetX and FP sets. It'll be $1000 for both? Thankfully I'm not into Fanstoys dinobots which are $200 a pop.

So which set's better in your opinion guys? :???:

Are you a fan of the WfC and FoC (particularly FoC) video games? Planet X is going to follow those aesthetics. Want more of a "classics" G1 type look? FP is probably going to be the ticket.

I don't recall both pictures being in the same post. Let's see if this works...

Planet X:

Though it should be noted that the FP pictured here is the shiny convention exclusive. The colors will be a little bit muted, more of a bronze and gray.

Image

FP's looks a little more articulated in dino mode, particularly the neck. For right now, since I have a separate video game/pre-Earth cybertronian shelf (and since PX is giving us about a dinobot a year) I am getting both. If no one has done it by then, I'll take pics of the two Sludges together.

Thanks for the pics. I am leaning a little more toward the FOC line but it's still hard to decide. Maybe I'll have to look at the other toys in the lines before committing to one of them. :BANG_HEAD:

If you can, spend the extra money to get Takara Grimlock. The grey color used for the mold matches what Planet X uses more so than any Hasbro release.

Will do, sir.

eBay ;)

In all seriousness... I have a lot of auctions up right now. Click the icon!

But seriously in all seriousness... I only decided to pick up the SE-04 Overkill when I realized the Classics Grimlock mold had no place in my collection as Grimlock.

thought it would be a point of interest to know that according to one of their facebook comments, Planet X wants to have slag and snarl out by the end of 2014!

I don't think they're sold on making Grimlock right now, so we need to let them know that there is a market for him

A full set of Dinobots by the end of 2014? That would be SO sweet. :D

I don't need a new Grimlock. Hasbro's is fine for me.

I'll buy one if they make him. I've got the Takara version, but having owned all of PX's figures so far and observing not only the accuracy to the source material, but also the excellent quality of their figures, I'd buy one in a heartbeat to replace my Takara version on the ol' WfC/FoC shelf.

I'm ok with that for now. FoC Grimlock serves adequately, and looks even better if you have the add-on kits for him.

Do they do anything to improve his robot mode at all, or just his beast mode? I ask because mine is always in bot mode for one thing, and for another, I *might* display him in beast mode if it weren't for that tail (it's not the end of the world, but it is pretty fat and ugly).

Most of the FOC Grimlock add-on kits are meant to make him look more G1-accurate than game-accurate. Like giving him robot mode wings and new heads and new weapons.

Well, though the Zenith Forge upgrade comes with an MP Grimlock styled head, he also comes with upsized sword and shield accessories. Dunno if that's game accurate or not. But it IS badass!

Use of both the Zenith Forge and Iron Factory kits and Art-tek blaster together gives you a real Grimlock. The game Grimlock was crap but these kits saved him.

Is that silver knight 2-pack Grimlock? Do the Iron Factory wings match his grey at all?

I'm using silver knight Grimlock as my Classics version, and would love to add the IF parts... but I suspect they're too dark for him.
