Good on PWTT for showing off an actual figure.

But honestly, the asymmetrical leg and thigh armor and the "groin cloth" does not appeal to me. Also not digging that the robot has no knee or elbow joints. I think the robots are more of an afterthought. This departs too far from the Transformers brand baseline for my tastes. Its almost like theyre taking pretender shell characters out of transformers and putting them into MOTU where the probably should have been in the first place. Im sure theres some people who are more into comics who will dig these. Will it be enough to fund a mold or two ? Only time will tell...

Well the robots have always been afterthoughts with the Pretenders. Nobody remembered Skullgrin for his inner robot, they remembered him for his beastly shell (be it through the Japanese cartoon continuity or the old Marvel comics). I kinda would have liked to see the robots fit inside the figure but I can appreciate that the engineering to do that could have compromised the structural integrity of the figure. Honestly the tech-drone solution works fine for me, though I do agree that knees and elbows would have been nice.

I do hope we get an Octopunch...

Now that I can get behind. I will say I'm not too keen on the "flappy" tentacle with the little fronds- it would look better either as a cluster of clearly defined tentacles, or maybe as a crab claw as a homage to his inner robot's crab mode.

Looking at the pic. It just doesn't seem like these Six inch MOTU styled figures are that articulated. Don't see any hint of bending backward knees, just rotate 360 swivels knees. Don't see any hint of hips joints that can spread out to the side. Don't see any articulation in the fingers.

Unsure if the Wrist or feet have any articulation. Unsure if the shoulder joints can spread out to the sides.

The Ancient Astronaut comes with human fists and the weird frond hands, as well as three heads (human, Cthulhu and octopus). So if you wanted it to look like Octopunch you could pick human hands, just like Octopunch had, and the Octopus head.

Play With This Too Catastropheles (not Skeletor?)

Postby Scaleface » Mon Feb 09, 2015 5:41 pm

Seems to be a Kickstarter exclusive recolor of Desolataur in the colors of Masters of the Universe Skeletor. BTW, Kickstarter begins February 27th!

Catastropheles will be unleashed on Kickstarter February 27th!

The body might also match up well with Gentleman Fantastic MD from the Head Shots.

Whenever I see posts like this from you, I have to stop and ask myself if you're just trolling or don't take the time to truly think out your comments.

I'm not sure how much more articulation you are looking for in the figures, but from that very same picture you posted it seems like there's plenty of articulation. A reminder that this guy has a lot of armor on which covers several anatomical parts where you would expect articulation. I think that's a great way to get the most bang out of your buck for a figure. I find it off-putting how many toys have all these joints and articulation spots and it the overall look of the figure suffers because of it.

Also, PWTT recently posted up some prototype images of Desolator which this body is based on. From those pictures you can see the wrist articulation. Previous illustrations of unassembled pieces show how the hips and knees work. Also regarding the articulation in the fingers, I don't know which 1/12th scale figures you've been playing with but that's a difficult thing to pull off without being extremely fragile as such a small scale.

Now its skelator? Is this mold going to be the next Mugam Scope ? Why not just make it Kali from Indiana Jones and the temple of doom ? Or color it yellow and make a new head and now youve got Pumpkinhead! Or give it a red deco and clip the horns and you got Hell boy ! How about some WWE homages ? Kane ? The Road Warriors ? Ok maybe im getting a bit silly, but seriously PWTT shouldmt rape the mold KFC style. Its not a seeker. ;)

Not for me either.

Think these things are based off the Hasbro Hero Smashers toy line.

Glad my hopes for this project weren't all that high to begin with. Kind of a shame really. If they had put an equal amount of effort into the robot counterparts I'd have been all over this. At this point though I'm kind of wondering what PWTT updates are even still doing on a Transformers forum . . .

Haha I'm waiting for the Hulk Hogan and Captain Planet repaints then i'm all in ;)

I sort of get the hero masher thing , i'm not sure about swapping body parts that are all different colours .

As much as i like the prototype and i would like this but if i chipped in i would want Skullgrin not an exclusive i have no interest in . I can see this mold getting 15 repaints before a new mold and i don't have the patients to wait .

If this works anything like the Kickstarter for Virtruvuan Hacks, they will start with a couple figures, then each stretch goal will unlock new figures who use a mix of the same parts, and new ones. Next might be Bitemark, who uses mostly the same parts recolored, but has a new head. Then Bloodbath, who adds new armor, then Rawbat, who adds new legs and waist, those legs and waist then are used by Mighty Muscules with a new head and sash part, Most of those parts end up going into snakemen, whose body armor end up being parts of Jetstrike, etc...Every stretch goal figure adds something new to the parts library.

That looks pretty nice. My memories of He-Man are of the 2003 series, which was somewhat more serious in tone, but regardless this is a cool homage. I wonder if we'll get a more Skeletor-y head shot for him?

Play With This Too Head Shots

Postby Scaleface » Mon Feb 16, 2015 5:08 pm

I thought I'd start a thread specifically for thoughts and discussion on Play With This Too's Head Shots concept.

For those who do not know, Play With This Too is a company that is running a Kickstarter campaign on the 27th to make a series of action figures, some of which are inspired by Pretenders toys from the 80s.

One of the cool little extras they are making are a series of heads that you can pop on these figures to make your own customs. Each set of head is designed by a different artist, and they fir on Play With This Too, most Star Wars Black, Marvel Legends and Masters of the Universe Classics bodies. There are not many TF homages among them, but some do make reference to 80s and 90s toy lines.

They will be available is different colors, I'm attaching the Kickstarter exclusive decos we have seen first.

Which are your favorites?
