Actually, I've always liked the trilogy faces even since the first movie. The Autobots were kind of humanoid, but distinctive enough to be alien/mechanical, and it was perfect.
Now I'm not against change, as long as it's explained. Perhaps these new TF's with the "smoother" humanoid faces are a sub-species of Cybertronian--like how elves and dwarves are similar but different than humans. Just a spoken line or two to let the viewer in on why the new guys look so different, like how Lennox explains to Meering about the matrix and TF's using energon as sustenance during Sentinel's "revival" scene.
It's probably not an issue for most of the fans, but I have a personal peeve against "fanon", and like to have things officially stated in a movie.
