This is the correct eBay link.

I listed the wrong one. Sorry, multiple tabs opened at once.

In any case, this is the other one:

And look at the insane bidding war going on for him. Up to US $167.50 so far! Even though you shouldn't transform him too often, otherwise the paint can wear some.

eBay Auction Link.

See-- They'd sell so many more of these if they would have painted the toy that way. That is so much better!

You are so right. Next to the original paint job I can see why people bid these up to the stratosphere.

Hasbro are you listening and learning something here?

Too bad the custom paint job can be ruined with frequent transformations of the toy.

That reminds me. I just saw a video of a kid transforming the Ultimate Bumblebee and I noticed that he will be a brighter yellow than the darker yellow in the promotional pictures I see around. If this is the case, I am brazing myself for another disappointment.

This is the work of Seibertron member Jin Saotome, you can find a thread in the kitbas section where he talks about his work and gives links to his galleries of this and other customs, mainly movie repaints. Here's the link:

http://seibertron.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10474&sid=

edit, My apologies that is in fact the work of timshinn73 and his thread on it is here:

http://seibertron.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8624&sid=

Very similar style to Jin's and I got mixed up, sorry would never normally miscredit someone like that. Jin's work is also worth checking out though. Again, very sorry.

There is no way you'll ever find a mass-produced toy with a factory paint job that comes close to a hand-painted figure. It just isn't plausible, especially with the little details the movie line has.

Anyway, it goes without saying that timshinn73 did a terrific job.

Ok, just to doubly clarify the ebay link that was originally posted is timshinn73's and the link to the correct auction I haven't seen before. Really don't want to miscredit anyone's work, so I thought I'd better make the clarification.

Anyone have a link to that one that was on the Spawn.com boards? Besides Timshinns fantastic work that one was my next favorite.

That's one of my biggest complaints with the Leader Megs toy. It's not so much the visible head, or the no head movement... it's the lack of paint detailing, and the mispainted face.

Look at this image, you can see how the head sculpt is actually really really really well sculpted, check the details and the panels, it's just like the movie model!

Image

Whereas with the final toy, his face is just a big black blob. Even the blue paint on his "helmet" goes outside his actual helmet and unto his face like they just splashed the paint on without looking where his actual helmet stops. You can't see his teeth or anything, it looks horrible. They even painted the panels under his eyes blue, so the figure looks like he has some piggy nose... the whole Leader figure of Megatron just screams wasted potential...

That's BS. It's totally plausible. Even if the toy was just ran through a machine chroming without the extra dirty details that you could do on your own it would still look better than that piece of crap paint job of the original.

Take this toy for example:
Image

And that was back in '89 or '90. They could have chromed this toy no problem. It's a common processing. I would have paid an extra $5 or $10 for that.

Tell that to those little silver tubes on Shortround's face...

You are correct, if Leader Optimus Prime got the detailing it got, I'm sure Leader Megatron could have gotten a much better mass produced paint job.
