I just got my MP5 Megatron Accessory upgrade! It is AWESOME!! I measured it and it's just shy of being 3 feet long by two inches! It's HUGH!!! It comes with two metal back grip pieces that snap on in place of the other grips. (At least it feels like metal!)This metal-like grip has the grooved slots for the back section to slide onto! Check out the pics!

Impressive. I haven't got the MP-05 Megatron yet. The rust problem I read about makes me a little skiddish on getting him.

OK Dead Metal, yes he is a nice piece to own and looks smashing next MP Prime. But I'd hate to spend the money just to have him rust. Of course I wouldn't transform him much and he'd be essentially a disply piece but I'd be pissed if my investment so to speak started to rust!

Mine dosen't rust, I have this fealing that it's got something to do with the plug, what I think is that as the ones for the US got plucked one of the companies must have contaminated them by accident. Like a worker not washing his/her hands after dealing with a different thing, ore getting some fluid of some sort on it, ore it's got to do with Taks QC that has been lacking this year as I've been reading.

Uhh ... rust problem? Are you serious? Wipe his feet with WD-40 (or CRC)once a month, and if there's rust there ... watch it vanish.

If you are going to store him for many years, then yes ... don't buy him. He will rust, then pits will eventually form when the rust gets deep enough into the metal.

Newly formed rust comes off VERY easily with WD-40 and one of those fancy paper towel things.

If the rust issue is stopping anyone from buying megatron, I just have to say ... "DUH!"

In all honesty, he probably won't even rust ... unless your hand sweat is highly acidic.

Mine was one of the very first wave, I literally had it in my hands just days after the release. I have and still DO NOT have any rust issues.

He doesn't have feet attached to his gun mode grips. The kit comes with an extra pair of back portion gun grips for the back stock to attach to. One removes the original back portion grips and snaps the new one in its place. The pics that look like he has feet are actually where I accidently laid down the original grips that have his feet attached and I forgot to remove from the pictures.

I have two MP Megatrons, one for me and one for my son, and so far knock on wood neither of them suffer from Cosmic Rust! I ordered mine thru B.B. T.S., don't know if that makes a difference. How anyone ordered their from B.B.T.S. and had it rust?

I can confirm you're theory is incorrect. Mine came un-plugged sealed straight from Japan and has the 'rust' problem. However as with MP Skywarp 'fragility' this 'rust' is greatly exagerated, it's not rust it's a tarnish caused but the fact Takara used a cheaper brass bassed metal rather than diecast for this figure. Is easily removed with a little elbow grease, of you then then clear coat the offending areas you'll never have a problem again. Its not so much Takaras QC that's the problem just the fact they went cheap on the diecast.

I thought I had remembered reading that someone had figured out was only tarnish and not rust. Good lord, how do these things get exaggerated to such epic extremes?

Wow, that's pretty angry rant of a review! I can totally identify with the issue he has with the figure and if I'd broken him straight out of the box like that I'd probably feel the same. However as with any expensive collectors piece like MPs and BTs when I opened the box and transformed him for the first time I was careful and consulted the instructions when I wasn't sure what I was doing. Its a difficult transformation but after a few goes you get use to it, its not the greatest or best engineered Transformer ever but it's not the worsted either.

I reckon maybe one of the guys or gals plugging them had grease on their hands or something...
I've heard about this stuff that eats through sealer and paint. It's sometimes used to destroy people's car (revenge-wise)

WOW. That review shows one really P.O.ed fan. Wow.

Question...is it possible to break Megatron that easily? I mean like he did?

Am I crazy for spending the money for him?

That guy has more TF than I ever had, to a certain extent he is use to transforming figures. If it happened to him, I figure it can happen to anyone.

I'm sure now that I watched it, and I'm careful I will have no problems, but still I want to play, not have a museum relic!

It's possible, sure, but just familiarize yourself with his transformation by reading the directions and/or looking at a youtube transformation if you haven't done so already. I didn't see that guy transform it so I don't know what he did but because he broke him in two places, i'd guess it probably had more to do with excess force/overconfidence than a poor design. My take anyway

I have to agree with AK on this one (sight unseen as I've yet to pick up MP Megs). Rust is the resultant chemical condition of oxidised iron, which is in no way what you're looking at with this toy. The problems that some people have encountered though are still a result of the same process, namely oxidisation. How to solve this problem? Simple: don't let any air get at the metal. Whip the feet off, spray them with clear coat, leave to dry and reattach. Or if you're feeling lazy but are prepared for more work in the long run then don't bother with that but apply regular coats of WD40. Once I do get my mitts on this really rather exceptional figure (stiff transformation, weak clips and supposed tarnishing problems aside) the first thing that I'll be doing is whipping out the screwdriver and sorting out the potential 'rust' issue. From the various reviews of this toy that I've read there seem to be bigger issues with the design, which I personally am prepared to ignor, but everyone seems to fixate on the 'rust' thing, the only easily fixable problem from the bunch. Hmm?
