That seems rather unfair; it's not Hasbro's fault they have to confrom to certain regulations.

nerf gun fine, don't call him classics Meg though,
I think they could have done better and more realistic
gun for classics Meg without violating regulations
don't you think?

I honestly don't know, I'm not an engineer and it's not my job to design these things!

However, I think that a more realistic gun of that size may have been harder to transform into a decent robot (hence why they only really ever got it right with MP Megatorn, as G1 Megatron's robot was poor). They might not have been able to make a decent, articulated robot out of such a small, realistic gun. I don't know.

To be honest, I only really dislike the looks of the gun mode because of the colours. In chrome, or without the green and purple, it would look okay, but that's nothing to do with the design per se.

I never really liked him being a gun, anyway, though, in truth. What I can say, however, is that Hasbro must have had a reason for doing what they did.

well, i don't think it was all bad though, i would have prefered them redesigned him without the wings, and made him a metallic color.. i think he would have been cool as a cybertronian blaster, and would have been a fitting replacement to the G-1 Megatron..

here's the repaint I was talking about.. Now had he been released like this, even with an orange tip, i would have bought him, with the exception of the wings,oh and the gun canon being placed on the top of the arm.. I think they could have designed him to transform without those wings.. i think they were still realing from the Energon Megatron design whihc looked like G-1 Galvatron..

Anyways here is a repaint pic:

I can't view that pic at work, although I did see some good repaints on transformersclassics.com.

As for him being a Cybertronian blaster...he is, isn't he?

I mean the law isn't like completely harming, they could have gotten away with the metallic paint and a more un-nerflike design.. just as long as they had the orange tip it's be okay..when are we gonna see a large company who have an army of attorneys stand up to the PC idiots an dmake a decent megatron without harrassment??

ohhhh I know... Takara..

Face it, Megatron's just too "badass" to be done properly.

Is that the right word? I think I've seen people use it.

yeah he's so bad that the only people who can really make him are the Japanese... man i gotta say, even with the movie version, the armada, cybertron, energon , and Beast wars variations, G-1 Megatron has gotta be the most controversial and menacing Decepticon ever, and thats simply due to his altmode nature..

I'm so happy i got MP Megatron.. what a nice figure.. i just hope they release a better tank megatron if they do another classics release in the future..

wmpyr, I think you'd get a better idea of the relative strong and negative points of Classics Megatron if you didnt JUST ask for the negative points.
And some things (like how easy to break is he) are difficult to answer. No one here is likly to play with him roughly, he's still a relativly new toy, and he is designed to take a few knocks anyway.

Personally I'd recomend him, defo a good example of 'looks better in real life' syndrome.

That Megatron repaint is by Jin Saotome, he's been doing all the custom figures for Toyfare to last like 6 months or so.
To answer the durability question he's damn tough. Not Tonka tough but I saw my nephew throw one across the room at the wall and it's fine.
I think you're all missing the real point of the Classics line. We aren't the sole target audience, kids are. Our kids. They know we're here and they know many of us have kids ad watch the G1 DVDs with them but aren't going to let them play with our Optimus, Megatron and Grimlock. Now they can sell us our childhood back (again) and we'll buy an extra for junior and get him hopelessly addicted to Transformers. "From you! I learned from watching you!" Only (U.S.) children of the 80's get that line.

thanks Zodconvoy, I am greatful that credit is being given to where credit is due, I didn't have a link to where I got this image from, due to the fact that I have had it on my photobucket for some time to use as reference for repainting Classics megs, if i ever bought him.. which I haven't but these pics certainly make me want to and re customize it..

skywarp-2 wrote:you know to tell you the truth i never bought him so I really can't complain, I've seen him and passed right by him..I mean he's a nerf gun!!!

Thtas not G-1 to me, and with all the political correctness I have seen lately it makes me sick.. whjat are we protecting our kids from?? If they never have a toy gun, then they are 10 times more likely to never play with one.. ok i get that..it also makes parents who own a real gun feel like its safer to leave that real gun laying around more because there isn't a toy version it could be mistaken for in the kids room..its not safety its stupid..

And what about those kids that own real guns and their parents take them hunting? I mean those kids end up actually using guns, and those kids who play with nerf guns and such have no clue what they are in for as an adult.. its unrealistic to believe we can protect our children from violence.. I mean come on, chances are most of those kids playin g with toys are gonna end up in Iraq or a 3rd world country in the future...all because of what crappy polaticians are doing now..

I mean its like we are trying to say, we are stopping violence because we want your transformable guns to be out rageous and look like a nerf gun, and we want police to not mistake your kids guns as real guns..

train you cops better!!!

I understand the orange tip, but the nerfology is way too far 0ut there..I mean its G-1 and a transformable toy.. it should have been a pistol, granted maybe a little toyish in looks, but still a pistol... they are gonna grow up and have a gun in their face one way or another, its a fact of life..

might as well have them prepared and explain the issue of gun saftely instead of letting them wonder what its like to really hold a gun, go down the street to a neighbors house and play with their dads real gun and accidently shoot someone!!! i mean we are creating a disasterous prblem by hiding our kids from guns in toys.. it makes it easier for us to ignore the issue and not have to talk to our kids...

So we get them a video game that has guns and real sounding ones, with real blood from good CGI victims.. .but we aren't allowed to sell a realistic "robot Gun" that shoots lasers at other "robots" I ema GI Joe from the 80s had guns, but they also shot lasers.. and didn't make me want a real gun, just a laser rifle or laser gun.. Those Anime Japanese shows, though clever still have gratuitous gun violence all the time, and show real gun casing shells.. I mean give me a break HASBRO!!!

Political Correctness has gotten way out of control in this country.. we are so scared to do anything to hurt some minority group, and I'm not just talking race..religion, vegetarians, ledsbians, gays, mormons, fly fisherman, alchoholics, Gobot lovers, he-man haters of america.. what ever!!! I mean its the lawyers and lawmakers who have made it so bad..you hurt my feelings and gave me mental stress becasue you said something I took offense too.. give me 1 Million dollars.. oh and lets make that a new law, you can't say that again.... what a freaking joke!! I'm moving to Canada one of these days..Captain Canuck I'm buying your Marvel Legends figure!!

Every time I see that NERF gun MEGATRON, I get pissed off... sorry but I needed to rant this morning.. and your thread was the perfect choice considering the topic..

Well said. :D now putting the cannon on his arm would make articulation WORSE. I say put it on the side of his forearm.

:-?

It was. But it was an early 1990's PSA. It was a dad confronting his son, holding a cigar box that contained all kinds of dope. And the father, being the idiot he was, was asking his son, and kept interupting him before he could answer like a prosecuting attorney in court does. And the father finally let him answer the question on where he learned to do drugs and the kid shouted at the top of his lungs, "FROM YOU! I LEANRED IT FROM WATCHING YOU!"

"Parents who do drugs have kids who do drugs, talk to your kids about drugs," said the deep voiced narrator.

Think of that classic Beastie Boyz lyric:

 You pop caught you smoking - and he said, "No way!"
That hypocrite - smokes two packs a day

It's pretty much that sorta thing. :)

Oh, and the Klingon Disruptor idea is cool. That or a TOS Starfleet phaser, those were always the coolest looking phasers around, since they have the quality/feel of what an energy weapon might look like.

I walked into a Walmart and looked at their toy guns
& their BB guns,

and I have concluded that they could definitely
have done a much better job in gun design.
