Well the only argument I can give to that is none

Some of the minicons, especialy the independant ones were akward when combined with a larger bot, but the pricipal is basicly the same.

I'm also glad that you see my point about the variety of bots we use to get. "The more the merrier" is something I'd like to see aplied to something other than repaints. They say history repeats itself, so I have a slim hope

So with a tip of my hat I say, Thanks, this was good conversation

In a way though they sort of had gimmicks.

Classics - To be updated versions of old G1 characters
Titanium - Bringing back die cast TF's
Alternators - Licensed vehicles that transformed.

But then the movie, bang automorph. Granted there where multiple levels to that line, but each level centered around what, a single gimmick!

And was the automorph gimmick necessary? I don't believe so.

But unfortunately these days, having a toy that transforms from one thing to another just isn't enough. They need that little extra thing to make it exciting.

How I miss the days when Transformers simply transformed. :-(

I also miss the random groupings. As was said before, where the hell do you find a microscope and dinosaurs working together or in some type of collusion? Nowhere but G1. Recent lines, everything gets so homogenous and plain. I like jets and cars and futuristic jets and cars as much as the next guy, but where did all the random stuff go?

1) There'll be three dinos in Animated, so you don't have to miss that.

2) There have been other combiners other than Devvy. Energon Superion and Bruticus.

3) In fairness, the movie line has an MP3 player and a helecopter working in collusion.

great 3 dinos, that's one more then we have had in the past!!! wait G-1 had 5!!!

what about stuff like a Microscope, or some other cool device like that?? where's the robots in disguise, oh, wait thats it isn't it.... Mass shifting was thrown out, hence the altmode has to be a car or larger machine...

I think the appeal of most, not all, but most of the altmodes in the diaclone or transformers G-1 toys was that they could be viewed as model cars to fool your friends, a tape player to fool your friends, a jet that looks like a model, or other vehicles that could pass for diecast replicas, and models.. a Gun that looks almost real.. little bots that could almost be hot wheels, ect.. ect.. the robots in disguise didn't just pertain to the show characters, but also the type of toys being sold on the market, in effect G-1 toys were in disguises of other toys of that day!! thinking about it in that terms, what can the later lines claim that really looks like other lines of toys, except for Power rangers motorcycles and brightly colored tonka 3 year old cars??

the Robots in disguise, toys in disguise aspect of G-1 was lost!!! i USED TO FOOL MY FRIENDS IN THE 80S WHO THOUGHT THOSE CARS AND MY MICROSCOPE WERE JUST THAT, AND NOT ROBOTS, WHICH once I transformed them, THEY THEN ENVIED ME!! it was cool....and that glorious cool factor is forever lost..

screw scale!! thank god for the Masterpiece series, and...

I vote for a Masterpiece Perceptor!!!

G1 started with three dinos.

You keep on stressing Perceptor, but we've (recently) had binocculars, a digital camera, a gamepad, an MP3 player, and a watch.

Furthermore, I really surprised my friend by transforming an Alternator. They didn't suspect TFs could really look like model cars.

Not saying SOME G1 things weren't lost. But the objectformers were recently revived, as were "more than two" dinos, as well as "can look like other toys".

no your right I forgot about those object formers, though all of what I am talking about was in one entire line..and allot of the big named characters were object formers, and not little side toys produced for the additional monetary gain based on the big bots success...Megatron was a gun, Soundwave, Perceptor, reflector.. the Dinobots were unique..my little brother thought I had a mechanical Godzilla toy, until I transformed it..Alternators were great, but they died off.. I loved alternators, and truly look to them as an updated G-1 toy..even if they are expensive..I guess my point is, sure we get some references produced here and there that may harken back to G-1, but when it's all said and done, G-1 Had it all, everything else that came out after only gave it to us piece by piece.. but not in one all encompassing line...

The movie line had Frenzy, a major character who transforms into a radio.

The "no size change" rule is fine since that has always hampered anything G1 in later iterations of the universe. Even as a kid I always wondered at the scale in G1.

And of course the Alts died off. If you look far enough into the future EVERYTHING dies off. But it's a recent line, so it counts.

I'm sure if has/tak spent 3-4 years making various different transforming toy lines then brought all the best of them together in one large super line of transforming toys we'd get lots of variety. But their not going to do that again now are they.

I guess I'm a little confused why it all needs to be in "one line"? You say the Real Gear guys don't count because they were not in the film? So what. Then Wreckage and Arcee don't count either, and they are arguably 2 of the better figs from the movie line. 2 of my favs anyway.

We've seen lots of cool stuff across the different lines over the recent years. Mini-cons, which lots of people love, had a time to shine. They take the idea started by the target/head/whatever masters up a notch. Energon had crazy amounts of combining. Alts and real gear had levels of realism.

As far as I'm concerned, they are all one line, Transformers!

Right now I'm in the process of making my idea of a "perfect" Classics line. By using figs from different lines that have the spirit of original G1 characters. Energon Downshift as "Classics" Wheeljack is a simple example.

SO don't sweat it :D By having different lines, each with a different focus, we are getting some great new stuff and lots and lots af transforming goodness!!!

Let me ask something. Why there always has to be the same number of dinos? :???:

What if Hasbro made a TF line made of nothing but dinosaurs...
I guess people would then start complaining about there being too much dinos...

I guess people would then start complaining about there being too much dinos...

if they did that they would have to call it Dinoman!! I like a little more variety is all.. where is the harm in that, I wanted to see a few more Dinos come off the assembly line in the future, it's not like I'm asking for Hasbro to kill off all their executives and fork over their pensions, sheesh... ;;) I never said there has to always be the same number of Dinos in a line, and for the record, we haven't had 5 since G-1...

There were six dinosaur transformers in Armada. At least.

all of them were reissues of BW2/Neo Characters, not original molds.

So? The G1 Dinos were all old Diaclone molds.

Dinosaur Transformers. Recently. More than five.
