Classics Astrotrain was JUST a year ago. And we have Classics OIctains, and Animated Blitzwing. And why don't guys like Cypertron Megatron or Energon Scorponok count? As said, G1 Springer counts as a triple changer. The only triple changers that don't count are the beast wars guys and Primus. Popping out random wheels and getting stuck in mid-transformation doesn't count as another mode.

The Minicons proved that we miight see smaller bots as heads or wepons here and there. I don't think having them as an entireline was a good idea anyhow.

We have stretegic Diecast on 20th OP. Ultimate BB has Diecast. But I favor Plastic, really. The G1s didn't have THAT much die-cast in them anyway. Certainly not as much as the Titaniums.

We did have lots of Cassettebots too. The Cobalt guys, the Kiss Player guys .... but you're right, they probably won't make any truly new molds for them.

We probably won't have color changers or Sparkbots ever again. *shruggs*

Attachments for "Nerf" Megatron - Well, he wasn't leader class. And why would attachments for him be lame? The real Walther pistol didn't have attachments, that's from another TV show.

No trailer for Prime - is Cybertron Prime really do far gone now? It hasn't been long enough to say "never" IMHO.

Powermasters - we'll never see these guys again. And good riddence.

Pretenders - I never liked the shells. Good riddence, unless they did them differently.

We seem to be forgetting some other great gimmicks.

Beast Wars had:
Battle masks (when done properly can be nice)
Flip changers (Beast Wars basics)
Water squirter's (not great for collectors but fun for kids!)

Beast Wars also had triple changers, technically. Beast, robot & vehicle/artillery(Inferno & B'boom) & Beast wars 2 also had third artillery modes.

Organic beast modes themselves are a gimmick I miss. The only similar things we've had recently are the few "beastformers" of the Energon (?) line, Cruelock, Divebomb, etc. In terms of Beast modes... they sucked....
I'm not counting the re-releases of the Beast Wars 10th Ani series.

And who could forget rubsigns, they seem to be almost completely phased out now.

I just feel like there are some things we are just missing, and citing one or two bots in a line that is mostly just bots, missing the extras, an one or two that fit some or a little of the gimmicks we saw in the past.. it's not the same thing!!

there were alot of bot in G-1 that had their own specialness about them.. as apposed to what we see now with one or 2 bots in toyline tat have a similarity to the G-1 gimmicks we have lost..

Classics had rubsigns and they weren't that long ago.

G1 lasted a number of years and a broad range of lines. Naturally "G1" has alot of gimmicks if you take it as a whole. Anyway, the more you look at it, the less it seems like we've truly lost many worthwhile gimmicks.

can you really call that mess of parts a trailer when they're not attached to him? Plus its not even supposed to be a trailer... its supposed to be the back part of a futuristic fire truck. Think along the same lines as RiD prime.

I think the willingness just to try anything and everything.

I miss things like the cassettes working with one or two guys, then you had a group of bugs and dinosaurs witha microscope rolling around...

And while there where subgroups gallore, even up until RID, they each had their own little gimmicks, and they where fun.

When the gimmick became the focus of the line, and not the figure though, yeah, it got alittle redundant.

I miss the experimentation, the trying different things with each figure instead of each line, I'd like to see them go back to that.

To be fair, "a willingness to try anything" just came from being made up of several toylines.

Why doesn't Scopronok Count he has 3 distinct Modes.
Granted Cyb Megs really doesn't have that much of a third mode. But Scorponok is distinct enough to count.

I miss Headmasters. And I think Mincons do the exact same function as target masters. but yes I'd love for some more real triple changers. Which is why I'm looking forward to Universe Octane, and Animated Blitzwing.

So the Better weapon mincons weren't packaged with the large bots but in sets of three. Still they are Target Masters.
Armada Prowl in Gun Mode, how muhc more of a target master do you want
Image

The Rub signs. wee just got them back in Classics. and every body complained that they were useless, and defaced the bot.
I think they were a nice addition to the line.
Image

so we've had few minicon bases. The miniocon base concept lie Groundshaker or Skyhopper, those I'd like to see again with the Minicons.

But after all that you now what I really miss, the superfluous accessories. G1 bots usually came with a few independent accessories, that did not become part of the alt mode. But could be held as weapons and things in robot mode.

Swords, 2 or 3 guns or missile launchers, backpacks. etc..
All those little things, that while very loose-able yes, added to the toy.

Exactly, they just threw in whatever they could and made it work! In the Beast Era it began to tapper, RID held on alittle, but in AEC it was Minicons, powerlinks or hypermode, and then those friggin planet keys!

Classics had a triplechanger(who I like), but not much else. Titanium and ALts were pretty much the same deal, but these were collector's lines, filler and not realy even ment to be opened.

(So I got dups, how could I resist!?!)

But then the movie, bang automorph. Granted there where multiple levels to that line, but each level centered around what, a single gimmick!

Now I know everyline has some bot that breaks the mold like Barracade housing Frenzy and all. And especialy the movie was a focused run.

But especialy to AEC, come on, push an envelope!

For example, Cybertron is long over, but who wouldn't want more drones for SoundWave. A minicon set of just those not only would have sold well, but it would have also pushed sales of the figure. Maybe with the eventual repaint, maybe universe release we'll see it.

So basicly, all I'm saying in this thread, is I miss the variety of things(both hit and miss)that we use to get.

Got a point there, I do miss the variety. Even if it's just considering the Diaclone-related stuff, you still have a nice variety.

But I won't give you the various Masters. Those guys really were full-line gimmicks, just like the moders TF toys.

wow, liege put it all into perspective how I was feeling in one sentence!! it was Dinobots, Insecticons, trucks that had beds that truned into a weapons platform or a Medic bay, truck trailers that had a spring loaded car, citiformers, the experimantation was wonderful, now granted Cybertron did a little of that and tried to incoporate alot of the overall lines into one series.. I still feel that there is a lost art to some fo what could be accomplished in the future toy lines..

I don't hate on everything else, I'm just trying to see what was really lost to us in subsequent lines from G-1 going forward.. and to be fair, you really can't count all the lines together, if your gonna cite G-1 Versus everything, then your basically being unfair, each line, as with G-1 should be able to stand on their own as an objectable comparison..

the lines on their own, are less then stellar to what G-1/Diaclone was by itself, even without articualtion there were some fun things in G-1 that really make the line special even for todays improvements.. I personally loved alot of the bots, and cons from back in the day.

Dam SkyWarp-2 I must have made one hell of an impression there to be sited that many times :P

It's all good, I've done it myself, but thanks for seeing my point.

As to Gauntlet101010, again, thanks for agreeing, but what you said about the masters, I have a rebuttle for. In their time, you hade Target Masters, Micro Masters, Head Masters, Power Masters, Breast Masters, and Brain Masters all interacting with eachother at the same time in both the toy and the shows along with Pretenders, Bases, Combiners, 6 changers, Weird Ass Things, SparkBots and so on and so on...

It was all happening at the same time on a large scale. Today you wouldn't get that, and as I've said befor, I miss the variety in the types of bots and gimmicks, and how they all interacted. It was like yeah there's some factions, but races as well within said factions.

Yeah, looking at the galleries again .... they did have one, large "masters" arc. Although the galleries aren't 100% complete .... I don't think.

Alot of those guys were seperated out by region weren't they? We didn't get the Breastmasters or Brinmasters or Dinoking.

It'd be interesting if this sort of debate happened back in the day. As a kid I saw the "Target/Head/Power" masters as the same type of gimmick, which is why, to me, the Minicon line really does a good job replacing it. As well as Micromasters. It's just "little bot attaches to big bot in some way and activated something" only now they have transfotmations that can stand alone ala Micromasters. So, in regards to THOSE masters, we sorta have seen them again. Although not quite in their specific roles.

But yer right about bases and Pretenders, and just trying a new thing in little bits through a line. "Never say never" is my motto, but the way they're making these doesn't seem to support many small gimmick in a limited number of guys.
