Gobots vs Transformers
What are differences and similarities? I didn't collect gobots when I was younger because they weren't around so I want to know if all the stuff they say about them is true? Are they really that bad or good? Are the older ones better or are the newer versions of either toy line?

If you love the Legend/Legion scale of transformers, you will LOVE Gobots. Most vehicles modes could pass as regular die0cast Matchbox cars. Even from underside! Most also don't come with any accessories or gun, making having "complete" Gobots a breeze.
There is also some "Super" Gobots who are deluxe sized. The cars have very classic, very vintage looking bots. Many hate them but I adore them. So much that I have them all!
Finally, compare to Transformers, Gobots are very cheap, very affordable. Go buy some and have fun!

Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to find Gobots for really cheap that are unbroken. You'll have to hunt them down. Good luck!

Oh man, that Defendor figure is easily one of the best transforming robot toys of the '80s. I broke mine in half as a kid from playing with it so much (even though it was my brother's
). He has a super fun transformation, just enough articulation, good proportions, tons of die cast, and a big arm mounted gun like Megatron, always a sign of superiority. Plus if you got the good version he had opening canopy and storage boxes and a long barrel (the crap version had a short barrel and nothing opens). He would have fit right in with the G1 cars better than the Gobots (they can keep Destroyer, he's more their speed).

Does not compute...
Anyway, just to throw my two cents into the conversation, I had both Gobots and Transformers as a kid, and enjoined both a lot. That being said, while I wouldn't turn my nose up at them if I had an opportunity to get some, Gobots just don't have the same nostalgia fuel for me that Transformers do.
I think it has to do with the relitive availability of both as modern toys. Transformers, for over ten years now I have been able to buy new, updated versions of the toys and/or characters I loved as a child. Gobots only recently started doing such a thing, and there it is in the form of import-only Machine Robo toys. They look cool, but they come out with a very slow frequency, and are $40 a pop for a roughly deluxe sized figure. It just seems like too much for two little if I wanted to create a modernized Gobots collection as I have with Transformers.
