I don't get the deal with RTS G-2 Optimus,It looks inferior to the 1995 laser prime toy.

The whole reason some loved 1995 Generation 2 laser prime was that it was a very sleek toy mold in both modes. it also came with a light up fist, light up head lights, dual weapon, sword & trailer that transformed into a attack station. Plus the truck cab/bot was voyager sized & decently poseable

Personally,The RTS G-2 Optimus Deluxe toy fails for me. because it doesn't look sleek in neither mode. the alt mode looks too clunky, boxy & weirdly designed for my taste. the toy has no light up fist nor light up head lights. it comes with no dual barrel gun. no trailer. the robot mode looks very clunky & non-sleek.

It looks like the RTS Deluxe g-2 optimus has similar or less poseability.

The only positive this RTS G-2 Optimus has is the non-faux robot chest windows.

The Hong Kong Car robots scourge toy is still very cheap to buy off ebay. anyone can get one for under $29.99.

I realize the whole big thing with getting RTS G-2 Optimus Prime is due to the 3rd party trailer, that converts to form a attack station & a suit of armor for the deluxe robot to wear into battle. SADLY like I noticed the suit of armor doesn't make the deluxe toy grow into a voyager sized robot mode.

I'm happy & satified with Both my Hasbro Rid scourge super sized toy & my Car robots hong kong black convoy toy. I don't need this RTS Deluxe G-2 Optimus as it's a tiny deluxe, has no light up features,no trailer & no dual barrel gun.

I ain't gonna spend secondary market ebay prices to buy RTS G-2 Optimus prime. Then spend $100 more to get the 3rd party trailer that transforms into a attack base & suit of armor.

if i'm gonna spend $100 for a trailer that transforms into a suit of armor,it has to grow the figure by 2 to 4 inches. not grow the figure by barely 1/2 of a inch.

Since this is the Car robots/Rid black convoy/scourge Thread. I feel the need to mention. that a few years ago. I did a custom, where I removed the light up electronics from my G-2 1995 Laser optimus Prime & transferred them over to my Hasbro Rid Scourge super sized toy. the end result is a Rid Scoure with a light up robot fist & light up head lights. this was fairly easy to do,it required no cutting & zero customizing. just swapping out the electronics from one toy & then placing it into the empty cavity of another toy. their was zero sodering of the wires. all the electronics were contained in a box with wires sticking out with light bulbs at the end.

For those who are un-aware of the electronics situation. takara removed the light up electronics from car robots black convoy & hasbro's rid scourge also had no light up electronics.
Takara sometimes removes the electronics from hasbro TF toys in a desperate attempt to keep the TF toy prices down/lower.

I own the G2 Laser Rod Convoy, and even though i have only seen the new RtS mold, I have to agree. The 1995 version just looks more solid and has more stuff. I guess the new trailer will make it worth it to have it, but I also wasn't impressed with the transformation.

As for the reference to the Scourge toy (either version), I think it's invalid, because if you want an original G2 Prime, a Scourge will not be satisfactory. Though, owning both figures, I think the Scourge toy is better.

Eventually i'm gonna buy the Takara reissue laser prime toy,it's on my very long buy list. I'm interested in it because it has the chrome trailer & chrome or metalic colored robot chest. is the robot chest diecast? does the robot have any diecast? is the chest just metalic chrome vacumized?

Just curious,Does the Takara reissue Laser prime or whatever the toy is called. come with a light up fist & light up headlights. my solid guess is no but I need confirmation.

The laser Ultra Magnus has a light in the fist, I would imagine the reissue Prime does too.

The listing(sold out) on BBTS states that the lighting effects exist.

Not sure about the chrome

As both of them go, they are both o.k., they are different toys from different eras that represent the same character. The deluxe is also far less costly, and the addition of a 3rd party upgrade make it attractive and fresh.
The original is larger and seems more stable in terms of plastic quality, like so many toys of a bygone era. I'd give them both thumbs up ;)^

Yeah, I'm gonna agree here. I own G2 Prime, Blackconvoy and the RTS figure. However, the RTS figure is still a very good deluxe, IMO. It just has big effing shoes to fill.

I didn't bother buying the new version as I didn't like the design but I don't see how you can say it is more boxy than the original. The original doesn't have a curved surface anywhere! (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration)

The new one has much more articulation: thigh swivel, ball joint ankles and wrists.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm wondering why I passed on him. Oh yeah, I've never seen him in shops. I did hear about QC issues.

whilst I'm impressed that we got more reasons than just "it's not as big, waaaaaaa" it still does seem the most important part of this here. personally, yeah. g2 Laser OP looks pretty cool. He certainly appears more chunky than his modern counterpart but it definitely looks like Maketoy have improved on everything that the £15 RTS figure was lacking in compared to the £40(?) G2 figure.

has anyone compared the Skorponok that comes with movie Blackout against the g1 original? because I think the original is better!
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

First of all, would anyone like some cheese and crackers to go with the w(h)ine?

Seriously though, I own both the G2 Battle Convoy reissue and RtS Laser Prime, and I still want the United version. And I don't care if the RtS one isn't on par with the G2 original, because it was never meant to!

Tidalwavex wrote:Personally,The RTS G-2 Optimus Deluxe toy fails for me. because it doesn't look sleek in neither mode. the alt mode looks too clunky, boxy & weirdly designed for my taste. the toy has no light up fist nor light up head lights. it comes with no dual barrel gun. no trailer. the robot mode looks very clunky & non-sleek.

It's a Deluxe, so by standard there are no electronics, and no trailer. Instead there's light-piping in the head and shoulders via the grill. The sword was the original's most defining feature, and where would you put the gun without making the truck look funny?

The only positive this RTS G-2 Optimus has is the non-faux robot chest windows.

That I find very creative, plus did you spot the matrix in the chest?

The Hong Kong Car robots scourge toy is still very cheap to buy off ebay. anyone can get one for under $29.99.

I think you mean either Japan or Korea. The Korean one has no symbols whatsoever, and uses the RiD version with the retools. Plus, Korean script has mostly straight lines and circles.

I realize the whole big thing with getting RTS G-2 Optimus Prime is due to the 3rd party trailer, that converts to form a attack station & a suit of armor for the deluxe robot to wear into battle. This is the part where I start whining, because I freaking hate it when aftermarket prices sky-rocket when such 3rd party add-ons are released. I hated it when it happened with Henkei Rodimus and I will hate it when it happens with United Laser Prime.

I just want Deluxe-sized leaders for my special shelf that aren't worth more than gold, is that too much to ask?! :BOOM:

You're right JZGR

The JP and Kr versions, though in the latter, iirc, also retained the upside down G2 symbols.

RTS Prime is a decent deluxe sized toy. But if I hadn't seen it in stores I probably would have passed on it despite the trailer coming out.

while you make a good point you cant compare the electronics, lights and sounds in what is essentially a 30-40 dollar leader class figure to a $10 deluxe. apples and oranges imo. for me i got rts prime because i like the classics aesthetic regardless of any third party release.

The Generation 2 laser optimus prime & hasbro TRU Rid scourge was released as a "SUPER SIZED" $29.99 toy. it wasn't released as a leader sized toy & it didn't cost $39.99.

I own both the original G2 mold and the new RTS and United mold.
I prefer the new one by a large margin.
I like the aesthetics a lot, specially how the rear wheels transform and colapse into his legs and it is also one of the most poseable figures ever. I also like small details like the matrix and how the gas tanks transform on his back to hold his sword or the sword being used as a trailer hitch in alt mode.
I love the original G2 mold as well, it's very poseable considering it's age and the trailer is great, but I find the new toy a lot more fun to fiddle with.

Micron Legends Hot Rod did have a light in his fist, but Hasbro nixed that "for whatever reason".

To add one more: TransTech Deluxe Starscream. Well, he would have, were the line not canceled. They were all exceptions though, especially from Hasbro.

I dislike this figure for different reasons. I don't like his alt mode at all. I don't like the look of it, and I don't like the leg transformation in alt mode. The legs just kind of peg together and look like... 2 legs pegged together.
