though I know in normal shooter video games, you are able to take the weapon of a defeated player. but could you really trade MELEE WEAPONS? i have this "theory" that in the DOTM game, if you notice in one of the game trailers, Optimus Prime has a shoulder mounted cannon and a chainsaw. but in the toyline, the mechtech chainsaw belongs to deluxe class Roadbuster. Could you really be able to customize your own melee weapons in the game? could you trade them with other players? farfetched, i know, but it is a pretty good thought.

Or there could be such a gimmick that for some missions or tasks you require a certain MECH TECH weapon and you can go into a very close range with them and then swap them: the one that was there replaces the one you wielded and the one you wielded shall remain in place of... Well, you get the point.
