Here is part of my collection, one of these days I'll post pics of the entire collection and it's mostly G1 as I'm trying to complete an entire G1 line first then collect other things.

The packaging is great but I will have to agree that the reason for all of the plastic and especially the damned twist ties is for security.

Not too many people can slip out the door with a G1 Scorponok as I have pictured down their pants but definitely the smaller ones on cards if sold like this today.

Notice behind the picture of Scorponok himself more G1 boxes of the Insecticons and to the right a G1 Megatron.

Enjoy! :D

Okay everyone is making a good point of the fact that its for security, but here’s a question, is it necessary? Anyone who collects 25th anniversary GI Joe figures would know they are very easy to get into and yet I never see them being stolen. All you do is pull off a small bubble, pull out the plastic tray and at most all that holds the figure in place is a piece of tape. No bands, wires or tape on the out side of the packaging.

GI Joes and Transformers are made by the same company, so why does one have much more complicated packaging than the other?

I'm not a fan of packaging in the modern era either.

The main reason is the lack of character art. I L-O-V-E-D that about the G1 transformers. There is not a reason really to collect MISB /MOSC TF these days because the packaging is not 'beautiful' as it used to be.

An exception to modern packaging being crap is the current carded GI JOE 25th. They are sweet in my opinion because they do have a large amount of the card for the card art, and in fact, the art is very similar to vintage joes-- which is another reason I love it. So much of the card art on TFs is just design with the con or bot symbol. The recent art has been half a body (toy pic), or a drawn head (movie), neither has impressed me at all.

I do find twist ties to be a horrible annoyance too. Rubber bandies are so much easier to cut and undo. Joe wins again!

Could the twisty ties geep the figure from breaking or partially transforming inside the package? I have no idea, just wondering.
