Moving figures to a new home advice

Postby alh77 » Mon May 19, 2008 9:24 am

Well, today my wife and I are closing on our house. I've been transforming my figures into their Alt. Mode and wrapping them up and putting them into boxes in layers separated by newspaper. This is rather time consuming so I was wondering if anyone else had any other suggestions. We aren't moving very far. It's about ten minutes away from where we live now. Any help would be appreciated!

I am in the same boat as you...I am in the process of moving so any advice would be appreciated too. I am moving 300 miles away but on a twisty highway (going around the mountains). I think with mine I will take them in the car rather than giving the box to the movers so that nothing gets broken or stolen.

You are doing it the best way, with the exception of using clean white towels instead of newspaper, although newspaper is fine as long as it isn't for long term storage.

Cassie, you're kinda stuck, but I would suggest keeping the figures from bumping into each other the best way you can!

I am giving that in my situation, I should use lots of bubblewrap and several boxes so that I do not place all of them in one box.

Hmm, I just moved and have an extensive G1 collection. I filled boxes with styrofoam penauts and put anything delicate in there, like statues, customs, MPs atc. The rest....I chucked em in some totes and was off!! Hey, most of these have lived in toy bins for the greater part of the last 3 decades. One quick trip couldn't hurt, and it didn't. ;-)

Ofcourse, nothing TF related was given to movers!

For those that you still have the original packaging for, putting them back in their original boxes should be a no-brainer. Other than that, what the others said.

There's always what I did with my G1 toys as a kid, all in one small box, mistransformed so they'd fit together like tetris pieces. Unsurprisingly, when I got back into them recently an pulled them out, there was a bit of damage :(

Thank you for the advice. I have several boxes and bubble wrap, which will help. I might also go to the recycling center to see if they have any packaging peanuts.
