OK what was the point of this!!!
At hoover dam when megatron freed himself and came out the tunnel, he was in jet form, when he transformed into robot mode, you see starscream standing on the dam in robot form.then he transforms into jet mode to fly past megatron only to transform BACK into robot form!!!??i noticed this yesterday watching the TF movie, and i saw it again and asked my friend what was the point of that? i mean it looked cool, but WTF! what was the point? did anyone else notice this. was it some kind of Jet form salute or something?

I'm not sure why he did that either. Perhaps he was confused by Megatron's actions. At one point, Megatron is in vehicle mode, then changes quickly. I mean if I was watching his movements, I'd be confused for a moment too.
Although that's the logical answer. The real answer is probably something like "Well we spent all this money on the rendering. Damnit, we're going to use it."

When I saw it, I was wondering why they did that but at the same time it added an eerie realism to the actions of the robots. They seemed to behaive like birds of prey at this point which translated into a more organic type of movement. Mixed with the demonic like designs, they behaived like predators who swoop agressively around their targets and even challenge each other like perhaps Megatron and Starscream were projecting agressive behaviors of the two most dominant predators. When the decepticons perched atop buildings and observed before attacking, it gave them a more animalistic feel. I think this is what they may have been going for and the guys at ILM really think all of the details through so I wouldn't be surprised if this was the intention.

Eh, I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. Bay proved me wrong with The Island. And even more so with TransFormers.
Before then, I had seen Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, etc and I wasn't all that impressed. (Especially the latter...)
After seeing The Island (which is in my DVD collection) and now TransFormers at the drive-in, he blew all of my expectations away.
However, he's not exactly an in depth man. During his work, yes. During interviews and going deeper into a moment, no.
I doubt he'll even give a second's glance at that scene.

I agree I wouldn't overanalyse that one. It was probably to include a scene in which the two fliers are shown together in vehicle mode.

At first I though maybe Megs flew right at Screamer and that's why he changed places. Maybe SS just didnt know if Megs was gonna transform or keep flying out.

after i saw the movie (probably about 5 times) it seems that when megatron rushes out in vehicle mode, it's kinda like he is full of anger. which makes me suspect that starscream gets scared and transformed to prepare to run away from the anger of megatron, (we know that they both have bad relationship). but when megatron transform back to robot mode, starscream realise that megatron do not chase him and decide not to run and to face megatron so he change back to robot for. i think thats why he said "i lived to serve you", which seems that he to persuade megatron or may be try to ask forgiveness from Megatron to spare his live. but that's just my guess. only the writers know the reason.

Starscream is an expert flyer, those are just maneuver. He transform to jet to gain speed and quickly turn to robot to gain better maneuverability. Then he transform back to speed up...
Starscream seem also the kind of guy who want to "look cool", so maybe he just decided to look badass by transforming again and again.
But i prefer my first theory. In robot mode, he seems to compensate the lost of speed by becoming twice as agile.
Maybe thats his way of moving, by combining both form way of moving.
Starscream and Megatron seem able to transform in whatever situation, and they do it fast. Prime seem slower and require more stability. Thats how i see it.
What he does are advanced aerial move. Remember Beast Wars, when he was in Waspinator body!

I think Starscream in the movie is obsessed about transforming. In the battle he shifts so many times... I think it's like playing the game Robotech: Battlecry where he might be transforming to turn more quickly then he could in jet mode, and jet mode can be used to move more quickly in a line then robot mode can.

Still, he had one of the best fight sequences
Especially when he took out all those F22s in typical screamer fashion

man i saw that part like 10 times. it still makes no sense why scream changed to jet mode fly past megatron then change back to robot mode. i understand some peeps here say that it makes scream more agile in combat,i.e.,when fighting off the F-22's,but when megs came, there was no battle there whatsoever,so i dont think scream transformed for that.seems like something was left out(editing wise) that made him change to robot form. maybe he was fighthing.who i dont know. but maybe he was in robot form fighting for some reason and changed to jet mode to take off(since scream loved to transform in this movie) then saw megs coming and flew by him and was like "oops, its megs" and transformed back!??? i know it sounds contradicting, but im going based on the movie, and the edits. but then again, with that edit,it only leaves you to make assumptions. oh well. we will have to wait for the dvd to see IF they talk or expand on that scene.

I'm not sure if you're talking about the same scene as I think. But to me it's obvious: he was standing on a higher level of the dam, he transformed to a jet to fly down to Megatron before changing back to robot mode to talk to him. Is that the scene or are you talking about another?

yes i am talking about that same scene. i guess anything makes sense, since nobody knows as of now why it happened as it did. but that is the part i was talking about. i guess your theory makes sense, somewhat. but it isnt like if starscream stayed where he was in robot form, that megatron wasnt going to be able to hear him if he spoke to him from up there.

Ive been watching this scene here and have come to the conclusion he is surely getting ready to run away from Megs in fear of an asswoopin but circles back when Megs lands. Out of arms reach of course, then he basicly grovels. Megs looks to consiter pounding him but decides against it.
